Yes, I'm sure it was posted before.

I got to see the whole first episode in... Canada. I went to a party, and the homeowner/friend had recorded it and we watched it. Almost makes me want to go out and get HBO.

I just saw one show, Bobert. There are loads of clips on YouTube. It's about (and this is as simple as I can get) one anchor who gets fed up and decides to try to get things (the news) right instead of playing it safe.

The show is great, but most reviewers think it's crap. BTW, they're allegedly "liberals". Go figure.

Sample, from _Esquire_:

Like I said, just a sample. ("Sentimental and patronizing"-- Huffington Post. "Moral eczema [that] males the viewer itch"--New Yorker). And also like I said, the show ain't perfect - everybody's too ironic and talks too fast - but it's great. Final episode tomorrow. Maybe nobody's watching.

I'd like to see it some time,but not enough to put money in Rupert Murdoch's pocket by subscribing to Sky TV. I hope it gets on a free-to-view channel some time.

The idea that to say America isn't "the greatest country in the world" is amazing and controversial is pretty hard to take in - but I suppose it actually is seen that way by a lot of people over there.

As for "everybody's too ironic and talks too fast", surely that's a bit like complaining that a cryptic crossword is cryptic. That's the fun of it, as with the West Wing. You just have to be ready to put on the subtitles, and maybe use the repeat button from time to time. And put your brain in gear. I suppose that last might be the problem for some critics. My impression is that that's what the show is essentially about.

What's encouraging about the show is that someone somewhere does see that 'the news' has become propaganda and opinion over the years. In other words, selectively chosen bullshit to feed people eager for just that. The news has become a means of shaping public opinion--brainwashing--when all that has ever been needed is a light rinse. Likely too late to change it now. What would be helpful is a list of news shows that just give the damned news without spin, sarcasm or party lines.

In the notorious "Game Change," the five-star HBO movie about Sarah Palin's run for VP, McCain's campaign manager tells her frankly that "the news is entertainment now."

Favorite "Newsroom" episode: The show has to drop coverage of the 2011 Congressional debt debate to cover Casey Anthony. Why? Ratings. Second favorite: last week when a real clip shows CNN's John King hosting one of the GOP debates and asking, "Congresswoman Bachmann. Elvis or Johnny Cash?" He may have asked someone else, "Boxers or briefs?"

Since I have a useless degree and time on my hands, I get to point out that "The Newsroom" is a "Menippean satire," not a "drama" as the half-educated critics claim. Menippean satire is a Classical genre that attacks small-mindedness, posturing, professional incompetence, arrogance, and so on. "The Newsroom" targets the tabloid mentality of the public and the news media, but most of the crusading characters themselves are slightly ridiculous.

Just compare them with the solid practicality of ACN President Charlie Skinner (Sam Waterston).

It'll be on DVD eventually.

The Newsroom is my favorite series on TV right now. It's by Arron Sorkin who was the guy behind "The West Wing". If you liked that series you'll love this one too. I can't say enough good things about it. Funny one minute and deadly serious the next. Track it down and watch it.

I think its fallen off from the first episode.

If I like it they'll take it off.

I loved "Luck." A couple of horses bellied up and it was cancelled. Great acting and cast with a lot of promise.

Without seeing it, it sounds as if it is an attempt to do a non-cynical starry-eyed makeover of Drop the Dead Donkey, a British sit-com about a TV news channel.   Which is a weird concept.

This clip is very much like some of Martin Sheen's monologues from The West Wing. The Newsroom was created by Alan Sorkin, who also created The West Wing, so there's good reason for the similarity. I don't get HBO, so I haven't seen The Newsroom. I was addicted to The West Wing, though. I loved that show.

I liked the clip but I don't watch any such shows. I watch news and REAL news like The Daily Show and comedy and sports. The clip is heart hitting but we all know more Arabs are gonna die and Walmart is gonna roll back prices again on Thursday despite the pep talk.

Take time and watch the video. It was on the Documentary Channel.. I found it very interesting and informative, and certainly sheds light on the illusion of your two party system, and what they are doing, or incapable of doing to fix the economy! And in the meantime, some of you tend to argue and debate in absolute vanity, and are NOT looking at the reality of the global situation, as a result of the ponzi fraud, that funds our governments.
    Watch the video, it is the best I've seen on the subject! Learn something about what you are talking about, but never addressing the real issue!

When you get there, click 'Watch film online'

You then may figure out why politicians can't do a thing about it, and why they are confined as to what they can, and can't do!!
Maybe then some of you might wake up, and stop fooling yourselves, and everybody you pass your hooey onto!
