A major polling group stopped polling in Virginia, North Carolina and Florida a couple of days ago.

Why? They say it's over there. Romney will win all three.

Real numbers are about +7 Romney in Florida and Virginia. NC will propbbly be in double digits for Romney when it gets to NOV 6.

I said weeks ago that no state south of DC will go Obama.

Now, even Pennsylvania is a "tossup" and New Hampshire is +1 Romney!

IBD/TIPP 2012 Presidential Election

Daily Tracking Poll

Day 3: Oct. 11, 2012

Romney: +1.2

Obama 45.7% | Romney 46.9%

Obama made up some lost ground against Romney, with the GOP challenger's lead shrinking to 1 point from 5 points a day earlier.

Romney's margin over Obama among independents, a key voting bloc, shrank from 20% on Day 2 to 15% on Day 3.

Romney's significant 36-point lead with white males dropped to 28 points — still substantial.

Meanwhile, Romney had shown a surprising 3-point lead in the West for two straight days. That reversed itself, however, in the latest poll, with Obama leading in the West by 46%-42%.

Un-doctored poll from today:

Romney: +5.0

    * Romney's lead widened to 5 points from 2 points on Tuesday, as he continues to chip      away at key Obama support.
    * Romney's edge among independents widened to 20 points from 18 just a day before.
    * Obama's lead among women narrowed from 10 points to 8 points.
    * Romney also continues to make inroads among middle-class voters, moving from a 6-point lead against Obama with this group to a 10-point lead.
    * The current data include only polls taken after Romney's resounding debate win over Obama on Oct. 3.

Yes. He has to come out looking impassioned, determined, presidential, confident, and outraged at the right moments...kind of like a WWF wrestling match. ;-) This is how elections are won. Kennedy did better than Nixon on TV, because he looked better. Nixon did better than Kennedy on radio, because he spoke better. Most people watched TV for that debate, so Kennedy "won". It's a question of vague, superficial impressions that is crucial, not truthfullness, good policies or factual content.

Where's yo dollah?

After Obama voted against the bill which passed anyway and provided 10 times the money that it provided for NYC, he charges the administration with racism for not providing money to rebuild New Orleans.

"This really steams me up," Obama begins, "When you get federal money, you've got to give a 10 percent match, the local government got to come up with 10 percent. Every ten dollars the federal government comes up with, the local government has to give a dollar.

"Now here's the thing, when 9/11 happened in New York City, they waved the Stafford Act. Said this is too serious a problem, we can't expect New York City to rebuild on its own. Forget that dollar you've got to put in, here's ten dollars - and that was the right thing to do.

"When Hurricane Andrew struck in Florida, people said, 'Look at this devastation, we don't expect you to come up with your own money. Here, here's the money to rebuild. We're not going to wait for you to scratch it together, because you're part of the American family.

What's happenin down in New Orleans? Where's yo dollah? Where's your Stafford Act money? Makes no sense. Tells me the bullet hasn't been taken out. Tells me that somehow, the people down in New Orleans - they don't care about as much."

Yup. Either the $y$tem itself will fall first from a combination of...

war

financial meltdown

and/or natural disaster

or there will eventually be a popular revolution that will bring it down.

Unlike Syria (and Libya), though, this will not require the infiltration of thousands of foreign-supplied and foreign-trained fighters, jihadists, foreign agents, and foreign money and weapons to accomplish it. It'll be a genuinely homegrown revolution.

There was a time when the middle class could fight back... It was called unionization but then the full force of the federal government joined forces with "management", i.e. the goons, and busted heads of unions and is still busting heads...

This game is 100% rigged against the middle class...

But the fight will come... It always does when you are a oligarchy that oppresses people and steal from them... Yes, "steals" from them... When kids with college degrees are working for minimum wage that is theft of their talents and labor... Labor theft is no different than any other kind of theft...

So, yeah, the fight will come and it will make Syria look like Woodstock...

During the Reagan Administration, I noticed the rise of the "homeless" in America.
His policies were "lip service" and his anti-union and economic policies wrecked our country. Nancy Reagan's "just say no" was a ridiculous solution to an addicted society. She, herself, was addicted to prescription drugs.

I call it "mourning in America".

Obama's recovery may be slow but it's a lot better than Bush's whose recovery consisted of job losses and the gutting of the "surplus" under Clinton.

The problem is Obama is spending too much capital on these wars.

One thing that should have been learned during FDR's administration is that austerity and recovery don't mix well... In 1937 he was badgered into cutting back and if you look at growth charts and graphs that was a bad idea and all but killed the recovery...

We should learn from mistakes but the Romney/Ryan/Tea folks don't know much about history...

Not a good discussion, wordy bullshit. Specific tax breaks to encourage specific things are not "TDE" per se. The Reagan stimulus was easily accounted for by the deficit spending. Tax breaks + increase in military spending = more money in the economy temporarily = huge deficits and accumulated debt. Shame on you PDQ for displaying your ignorance or counting on ours.

They follow a political-financial religion that they are loath to abandon, Bobert. Abandoning it would be to abandon their entire philosophy of life thus far. This is something most people won't do, no matter what, because to do it would be to admit that they've been............WRONG all along!

And, boy, are they ever wrong. They couldn't be much wronger. Now, consider the Nazis. Were they willing to admit they were wrong? Certainly not! Hitler and most of his inner circle of loyal supporters such as Josef and Magda Goebbels went to their deaths absolutely convinced that they'd been right, dead right, and that if the world had only seen it their way it would have been saved.

That's the kind of mentality you see driving the far Right "trickle-down" philosophy of supposedly enriching a country by giving its richest elite more big tax breaks and by continuing to de-regulate the banks and lending institutions. It's absolutely insane. It's already been proven utterly wrong by the damage it's done in the recent past. But they will not abandon it, because it is the philosophical and psychological basis of their very identity, their egos depend upon believing in it....and it benefits them directly, because they themselves mostly ARE among the rich elite.

And all they have to do is tune in every day to Fox TV...or some other outlet that preaches their gospel...and they'll never have to hear anything that deviates from their own opinion.

In this respect, they are much like other people, of course...because most other people do the same thing. They also have a lifelong philosophy that they WILL NOT change, no matter what, and they tune in regularly to outlets that agree with it! ;-)

However, there is that one crucial difference which is...the philosophy Romney is backing happens to be an insane one. Inflexible allegiance to an insane philosophy is a far worse problem than inflexible allegiance to a relatively sane one...

This is easy...

Lower taxes on the rich and less regs cost the US economy 8,000,000 jobs, an average of 40% drop in net worth for the lower 90% of wage earners and a major recession....

The Romney plan??? Lower taxes on the rich and less regs???

Insanity: repeating behavior expecting different results...

During the O'Reilly-Stewart Rumble, Billy kept showing his sign "Bush is gone". He took with him 8,000,000 jobs, every penny my meager investment accounts had earned, every major auto manufacturer was on the verge of bankruptcy, the housing industry was in shambles, and banking institutions were crumbling while the CEOs and possibly a few select execs were stashing their loot in the Grand Caymans or wherever to keep it out of sight of the IRS. But he did leave us two bloody, expensive wars, with at least one whose primary purpose was to restore BPs Iraq oil field and provide revenue for favored government contractors. An the other to repay Osama bin Ladin for an attack against America. In a little less than four years Obama has overseen steady job growth, my investment accounts are at least restored and showing a little growth, the automobile industry is flourishing and the unbelievable has happened. A large part of the government loans have been repaid. Banking institutions are working in spite of the CEOs. The housing industry is improving. People who had been devastated by the lack of or cost of health care have a fighting chance. The price tag of settling the scored with bin Ladin has not been revealed to my knowledge but I suspect it was less than Bush invested in Afghanistan, and the loss of life was certainly less. And it was done in spite of the opposition of Republicans in Congress who are committed, as has already been pointed out, to the misery of the American citizenry. I cannot speak for anyone else. But I am better off today than I was four years ago. And it seems like the people around me are as well. And for three years I have had hope for better things to come.

More interesting news...

THE CHONGO RECOVERY

After a severe bender on Friday night and into Saturday afternoon, Chongo was expected to be too drunk or hungover to make his Keynote Address to the National Association of Artistic and Active Apes and Monkeys (NAAAAM) in Schenectady, New York on Sunday afternoon. Confounding both his critics and the pundits, Chongo showed up right on time and delivered a barnstorming speech that made Mitt Romney look like a shrinking violet and Barack Obama look like just a skinny guy in a suit. He promised to deliver "80 million new jobs by June" if elected. And how was this to be done? "We're gonna move some of the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest," promised Chongo. "It ain't fair that people there don't get to view good scenery, and my administration is gonna change that for all time by employin' 80 million workers for the next ten years and movin' 52 of the largest mountains into places like Kansas and Ohio." Chongo went on to flesh out other planks in his ever-expanding platform and finished to a tumultuous outburst of applause, hooting, and barking from a very pleased audience. No poop was thrown, despite dire predictions from the most vociferous critics of the Chongo campaign.

Looks like Chongo has bounced back better than ever. This proves that excessive drinking and grandiose and outlandish campaign promises don't necessarily get in the way of getting elected, something people should have already known on the basis of some of the previous occupants of the Oval Office, but they just needed to be reminded again. ;-D
