Subject: RE: When you gather what do you sing? From: Mudjack Date: 28 Oct 99 - 12:12 PM A song with a great sing along chorus usually hits the right chord. I've had some success with Roll On Columia, or I Remember Loving You. Something I learned along the way that I believe is credited to Malvina Reynolds is: My favorite song is my newest song I'm learning or in the process of learning. (putting to memory)I usually try to include my favorite song even though that new song can be a dirge or sad song. My latest is "Tramps and Hawkers" or The Rose of the San Joaquin" by Jim Ringer. A sad sad song. But then when your turn comes back around again you can sing This Land and lift up those spirits. Mudjack |

Subject: RE: When you gather what do you sing? From: katlaughing Date: 28 Oct 99 - 08:26 PM Usually just have an opportunity to get together wiht my sisters once in a great while. When we do, we sing all of the old girls scout camps songs, plus all of the old cowboy songs and pop songs (of our parent's age) we were raised on: Peace of the River; Old Apple Tree; Little Joe the Wrangler; Frankie & Johnny; a lot of KTrio; Prairie Lullaby; Barnacle Bill; When the Work's All Done this Fall; many, many more, including musicals. Now, thanks to my finding the Mudcat and thanks to Sandy & Caroline and Art, whose cd's I have, I am learning a bunch of new ones and sang Art's the cowboy's version of Barbara Allen, this summer for a CultureFest. Am learning The Master of the Sheepfold and Is Your Lamps Gone Out ala Art Thieme; Dark Island, Last Train for Glory, and Singer's Request ala S&C. Used to sing my brother's pop/romantic songs in concert, but it's too sad and frustrating anymore. kat |
