Presumably if the President is female then her partner will be First Lady. However if the President is male you will have the same question as you would if you ever elect a married straight woman president. First Gentleman doesn't quite seem to answer.

Now, wait, Henry. You're getting ahead of the game a bit. I think the next real "breakthrough" candidate is more likely to be a female president. For either party. The Republicans, in fact, could totally discombobulate the Democrats by having a female AND black candidate for president! How progressive is THAT??? I suggest Condoleeza Rice. I don't think she's married, is she? Therefore the troubling question of what to call her spouse once she's in the Oval Office doesn't even come up.

But if it did, he could be called The First Husband. (She was rumored to be having an involvement with G.W.Bush at one point...so...just maybe...)

Then there's Hillary Clinton, another possibility, but a difficult one, because a large part of the public hates her so much. Still, given the right timing, Hillary might succeed in being elected. If so, Bill Clinton would get to be First Husband. Wouldn't that be fun?

Now, if Chongo were elected, he would probably pass new legislation that legalized interspecies marriage, and right after that he would marry his human girlfriend and campaign manager, Renata Carson, an attractive brunette paralegal from Chicago. They are rumored to be "more than friends". If so, no problem at all. Renata would be First Lady, just like usual.

No...I think the gay president gambit is still a fair way off at this point. You have to time these things very carefully, you know.

If a USA president were elected from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka Mormon fundamentalists), how many official first ladies would there be to carry out the duties as hostess of the White House, and be in charge f the White House social and ceremonial events? Since they don't receive a salary, could it not be a win-win situation for the taxpayer?

Most of the better presidents have been a bit on the randy side—one way or another.

The only time it becomes a problem is when somebody, usually with malice aforethought, makes it public, sending an army of "Mrs. Grundys" of both genders into a wall-eyed hissy-fit to the extent that it interferes with the president's real work.

Case in point, Linda Tripp's shooting her mouth off to the press about something that Monica told her in confidence, which branded Monica as a brainless twit and Linda as treacherously mercenary (she hoped to get a book deal out of the scandal she could cause).

Bill Clinton's fiddle-diddling had absolutely nothing to do with his administrative abilities, which happened to be quite good.

As long as it doesn't interfere with his or her job, my interest in a president's sex life can be measured only in micro-give-a-shits.

In view of the fact that the incumbent of the White House is the man with the ultimate responsibility for pushing ( or not pushing) the button which could determine the fate of billions, for my own part I would be much happier if I knew that the said incumbent was a man who, by default, would take into account the fate of his children ( and perchance, his grandchildren ) rather than whether the incipient firestorm might cause his partner facial sunburst issues ...
