A copy of the original script of the sketch, written by Ronnie Barker under his nom de plume of Gerald Wiley is held by the V & A, details below.

I used to have a copy of All I Ever Wrote: The Complete Works by Ronnie Barker. Second hand copies are easy to find, but I have a feeling that not all the musical numbers were included, so I don't know if The Barber Shop is included.

The original tune is 'The Old Rustic Bridge by the Mill' - as Murray says, the words are almost certainly by the scriptwriters.

Old-fashioned performance here

Two Ronnies Barbershop Sketch

Sorry I don't know the song, ( which starts 5.02) but I have a shrewd suspicion that it may have been specially writen for the show, given the fortuitous occurrence of "rays are sharp" and "close shaves" in the lyrics.

I could be wrong, however ....I was wrong once before ...

On YouTube is a barbershop sketch with the Two Ronnies. In it they sing a song with the line, "..I'm thinking tonight of my love far away adrift on the deep splashing foam". Does anyone know the name of this song and where I can find all the lyrics? Thanks.
