Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: ragdall Date: 16 May 13 - 06:24 AM Dan, Thank you for sharing the stories about your mom. She lived a long life to the fullest with grace and good humour. Now she lives on in your memory and in the traits that she has passed on to you. You have the assurance that, when it's time, you will see her again. Until then may the love of your family and your friends here comfort you and enrich your days. Big hugs, rags |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: Pete Jennings Date: 16 May 13 - 06:51 AM Let's hope she teams up with Kandinsky, and maybe Vincent as well, then we'll get some really cool sunsets! It'll be a long time before I get the image of the yellow bath tub out of my mind. Great stories. What a woman. Pete. |

Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 16 May 13 - 08:58 AM She loved music. She thought I was a great song writer. She was biased for sure. In HS I brought home (for myself) Bridge over Troubled waters the Album ... She stole it ... I bet she played that thing for 20 years. Love it .. Now my dad was all about "hillbilly" and "cowboy" mom was more modern. I wanted to go to a "Vanilla Fudge" concert in Pittsburgh. She drove me and my friend Sam and went with us. She said those guys are good .. LOL what mom does that |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 16 May 13 - 09:07 AM However, she also loved the song "Honey" I said mom that is a terrible song ... "it reminds me of your dad". Mom dad never planted a tree in his life, he cut em down with a chainsaw .. she laughs yea that is true |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 16 May 13 - 09:32 AM One time her and aunt Gracie were sitting at the table drinking coffee and talking about how cute Tony Bennett is. I came down the steps and said you two realize he has a wife. Mom without missing a beat said "yes that's ok Gracie and I plan on out living her" LOL |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: ChanteyLass Date: 16 May 13 - 11:14 PM Oh, Dan, I'm sorry about your mom. She sounds like a wonderful woman. She kissed the Blarney Stone? Well, that explains a lot! Although it sounds like she was full of fun even before that. I am glad you have so many great memories of her. As I recall, she kept the hospital staff in good cheer with her humor. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 16 May 13 - 11:30 PM Yea she wrote us all a letter, I read it today ... basically how much she loved us all and to take care of each other. To take care of others we encounter in life ... tore my heart out for sure but again I still can't cry ... I suspect when one hurts so bad, something inside just shuts down. I miss her. She was quite the woman. I was a very fortunate kid to have her as a mom |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: Ron Davies Date: 17 May 13 - 08:33 AM "quite the woman" That's clear--and it's also clear why you miss her. Too bad the rest of us never met her--she does sound absolutely delightful. It's great you have all these wonderful memories, though they of course can't take her place. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 17 May 13 - 10:41 AM ron thank you my friend. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 May 13 - 10:48 AM Condolences, olddude. There will be tough times, but just remember that you have some real friends to help you though them. Keep those memories to the fore and keep us smiling as well. It will help us all eventually and you take great comfort from that. Thanks for the fine example you give. Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 17 May 13 - 10:52 AM My later years conversations on the phone with mom "hi mom how are you doing" .... reply "what" I repeat then I get "what" Oh how are the kids Dan ... I reply she says "what" "Mom a meteor hit my house and blew it up" ... "that's nice I am glad the kids are ok" "Mom you have to turn the hearing aid on if you expect it to work" Oh ... laughter ... sorry .. I keep forgetting |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 17 May 13 - 12:04 PM The wake is tomorrow. Mom had one heck of a feed put on in the church social hall after the Mass. She was all about feeding everyone. thank goodness she is not doing the cooking. Cooking (I should say) burning was not one of her strong points. Good thing we didn't have a smoke detector back then. Nobody would have gotten any sleep. The golden gates of Heaven are now covered in a muddy green paint .. There is a little old lady with a brush saying to God .. I like to paint |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 17 May 13 - 12:04 PM Dave thank you for your kindness |

Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: ChanteyLass Date: 17 May 13 - 09:43 PM It sounds like you think you "should" cry. That's not necessarily so, and your not crying doesn't mean you loved her any less than if tears came in buckets. Tears may come in time, or they may not. Your mind, body, and spirit are all working to help you cope with your loss. Each of us responds differently. Your love is evident in your posts. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: Neil D Date: 18 May 13 - 03:32 AM Ah Dan, so sorry for your loss. I admire the memories you share of her. The next time you see a rainbow your heart will know, your mom painted that one just for you. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: Nigel Paterson Date: 18 May 13 - 05:44 AM I'm so pleased I made the effort to read every post in this profoundly moving thread. Came to it far too late...sorry Dan. Ann & I send Love & thoughts of comfort. It's intriguing that your belovéd Mother felt the desire to paint, just as you have 'painted' the most glorious & endearing portrait of her with your lovingly written stories & anecdotes. I've laughed & cried my way through the entire thread. By your side, Dan, With Love, Nigel & Ann. xxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: bbc Date: 18 May 13 - 08:30 AM So sorry for your loss, Dan. I lost my dad 6 years ago & it took about 3 years, till I stopped crying regularly. My mom passed, last October, after a painful time of aging & delusions. By the time she died, it seemed a blessing. I am confident that both are with the Lord & I'll see them, by & by. They were great parents & I feel blessed by the heritage they gave me. The main thing I'm noticing, these days, is that I can't ask questions of the previous generation & that I can't call Mom to chat. I miss that. Today, I am attending the memorial of a dear friend from church. She finally lost her 3 1/2 year battle with cancer, but she fought valiantly & lived her life till the end. I saw her, twice, in her last week & there was a peace about her. She was a faithful wife, mother, friend, church member. Her life was well-lived. May we all say the same! I'll think of you, today! love, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: olddude Date: 20 May 13 - 02:10 PM What a beautiful service. And the luncheon afterwords with all the little great grandkids playing she was beaming I just know it. My nieces little boy 4 years old said GG over there with angels ... I believe she was |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: gnu Date: 20 May 13 - 04:54 PM BBC... "The main thing I'm noticing, these days, is that I can't ask questions of the previous generation & that I can't call Mom to chat. I miss that." Don't that suck BIG time? Rhetorical whine eh. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: GUEST,Lizzie Cornish Date: 20 May 13 - 06:43 PM Much love to you, Dan..and to your Darlin' Mum too. I wouldn't have expected her to be any less wonderful than you've told us she was, for we've see her reflected in her caring, kind son for many years now. If the tears come, that's OK If they don't, that's OK too Either way, you know how much you're loved and that everyone is here for you if you need us. Again, much love to you and your Beautiful Mum. Lizzie :0) xx |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: ChanteyLass Date: 21 May 13 - 12:05 AM I'm glad the service was good, and I am sure that great-grandchild is right. She is with the angels. Anything from the eulogy (eulogies?) you want to share with us? |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: YorkshireYankee Date: 21 May 13 - 01:08 PM I don't know you, olddude, but have an idea what you are like from your posts. Your Mom must have been so proud of who you turned out to be. I - along with so many others - am enjoying your lovely stories about her. I wish you healing from the shock (even though you knew it was coming) and pain of losing her. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: bbc Date: 21 May 13 - 07:51 PM Yup, gnu. It does. olddude, glad the service went well. The one I attended was wonderful--completely planned by the departed & very meaningful. She lived well & fully! |

Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: GUEST,olddude Date: 27 May 13 - 11:51 AM Mom was so much fun. One other letter she wrote to us kids ended like this... "as a family we been through good times, bad times and everything else in between. We survived and got through it all, except this last time cause I am gone but no worries" When you go, I will be waiting with your aunt and your dad sitting at the table drinking coffee and smoking cigs.. I know, but it makes no difference now if I want a cig" She was something else. |
Subject: RE: Obit: olddudes Mom From: ChanteyLass Date: 27 May 13 - 09:44 PM From all you've shared with us, it sounds like she was indeed something else--something else that was wonderful. |
