In the late 60s we used to sing a song about the Marines to the tune of Ghost Riders in the Sky. I would like to get the lyrics if anyone knows them.

You can sing the Marines' Hymn (From The Halls Of Montezuma) to the tune of Ghost Riders.

The true title of the pop song is RIDERS IN THE SKY.

You can have your Army Khaki.
You can have your Navy blues.
I have another uniform to introduce to you.

This uniform is different, this uniform is green.
The Germans called us Devil Dogs,
The name is just Marine!

We were born at Parris Island,
The land that GOD forgot.
Where the sand is 18 inches deep, and the blazing sun is hot.
We get up in the morning, way before the sun,
We run 100 miles or more before the day is done.

Marines, Marines, Marines

So listen to me girl to what I have to say,
You find yourself a good Marine for each and every day,
He'll love you and he'll kiss you, he'll never be untrue,
You get yourself a good Marine for each and every day.

Marines, Marines, Marines

So when I get to Heaven to St. Peter I will say,
"Another Marine reporting Sir, I'll spend my time in hell",

Marines, Marines, Marines

But when I look around me, oh, what will I see?
One hundred thousand more Marines standing next to me!

Marines, Marines, Marines

I believe the original version from 1963 went something like this ---

The army has it khakis, the navy has it blues
but there's another uniform I'll introduce to you
the uniform is forest green, the finest in the land
Marine Marine Marine

The Corps was formed Nov 10th in 1775.
It formed the greatest group of men that's ever been alive
they wrote their page in history, with their blood spilled in every land
Marine Marine Marine

The Germans called us Devil Dogs, the name is just Marine
we are the finest fighting force the world has ever seen
and when you see the uniform you'll know just what I mean
Marine Marine Marine

And when we past a graveyard, we'll hold our heads up high
cause were the only fighting force with guts enough to die
and when we go to heaven to St. Peter we will tell
One Marine reporting sir, I spent my time in hell
Marine Marine Marine

I am digging.

"Ghost Riders" were a Rugby Club at the Camp Pendelton Marine base in California. Most of the USMC 90's song-book was posted to Monkey Boy.

Dahl Trader (ret USN) has a version with "Ghost Hashers," consult Mahlberg collection.

It will be interesting to connect.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

You may talk about your Army, you can talk of Navy blue
But here's a different uniform I'll introduce to you
This fighting man is different, the finest ever seen
The Germans called him Devil Dog, his mane is just,

Marine.
Marine, Marine

He was born at Parris Island the land that God forgot

The sand fleas eat you day and night the sun is blazing hot.
He'll do a thousand pushups and twice as many squats and when the day is over they'll take us for a trot.
Marine, Marine

If you sing the actual Marines' Hymn TTTO the Ghost Riders, you will need the following chorus, which was supplied at Caltech in my undergraduate years:

Gung ho! Gung ho!
The United States Marines.
