Yes, indeed. A troop of Baboons might have been well used to hunt down and eliminate Sawney Bean and his clan.

Sawney Bean is tame compared to a troop of baboons.

Typical arrogant human comment. I bet I am more civilized than you, ya Limey chump. My role model is Humphrey Bogart, see? He had style. More style than you ever dreamed of, I betcha. Who is yer role model? Benny Hill? Sawney Bean maybe?

Dogs gotta be about the laziest damn things on Earth...but when they see ME they suddenly stop bein' lazy and become galvanized! They go absolutely nuts. I hate the damn things. They never shoulda been domesticated at all.

Sorry, been away watching the telly. The Woof Life with Felicity Kennel.

Just as an experiment I just played some Bonzo Dog Doo Daa Band for my dog, (My Pink Half of the Drainpipe, if you must know.) No reaction.

I notice the listings for tonight include, after the watershed that is, Lapdogs Uncut. I'm going to have to put a parental lock on the telly... Good job he's too lazy to get the remote. (If he had ever got the remote, we would have known, there'd be nothing left of it.)

Becca... hahahaha!

"the only thing the dog gave any evidence of seeing being "baboons.""

Well... baboons eh? One of the nastiest species on earth from what I have seen on TV. I wouldn't go near one. The only reason *I* don't bark at them on the TV is I know there is no way they can come thru the screen. Fluffy may not understand that concept. But, s/he knows baboons!

The Sky + box gets full as it is without a certain greyhound wanting things recording for when he isn't busy licking the patch where his nuts used to be ...

You should try out Trinidad sometime....several million dogs all over the streets, hanging around on every corner, shitting wherever they please...and no one blinks an eye over it. "Pothounds", they call them, because the people tend to help out the neighborhood canine battalions by feeding them scraps from the kitchen pot. They tend to be smallish, short-haired dogs, mostly white but with colored spots here and there. Nice little dogs if you get to know them individually.

You would either adjust to the mundane realities of dog shit in public places...or go utterly mad...or have to flee back to the more regulated streets of the UK.

Anything that keeps dogs off the street so that they only shit in their own houses would be hunkydory with me.

Well, not so much FOR dogs, as WITH dogs. :-)

My last dog, also a miniature poodle, completely ignored the TV until one day I had a "wildlife" show on and a tribe of baboons cavorted across the screen. Woofie objected strenuously.

The trait persisted, with the only thing the dog gave any evidence of seeing being "baboons." Chimps, gorillas, Orangutangs, et. al. were completely ignored, along with all other life forms, including plants, animals, and humans.

My logical assumption was that one of his handlers when he was a wee puppy must have strongly resembled a baboon ... (?) ... and it appeared he didn't get along well with that one.

John

Of all the dogs we ever had, only one of them showed any interest in watching the visual images on TV. That one was a miniature poodle, and she definitely recognized what was on the screen, but the only things that seemed to get her excited were:

- other dogs
- cats
- domestic or wild animals
- cartoon characters!
- and buses (???)

She was not the least bit excited about seeing human beings onscreen, unless they were human cartoon characters...or people dressed up in really weird costumes.

All our other dogs completely ignored all the visual stuff on TV, but they did react to the animal sounds, specially cat or dog sounds. Barking on the TV would set off quite a reaction.

Don't know much about dogs, but over the years only some of my cats have related to TV and appeared to be watching it. The others seemed to be unable to 'see' the images on the screen. If a prog about, say, lions hunting prey in Kenya comes on, SmokeyPokey sits up, ears forward and 'chatters. He obviously relates to the hunting. Recently we had a documentary about a village and the movements of each cat were traced by transmitters. Two of our three cats nearly leapt into the TV with intense interest. But the third seemed puzzled. I'd love a Channel for the cats. I suppose it would be scenes of hunting and catching birds and small rodents, weeing up walls and plants, fighting among rival moggies etc.

bark! bark!

DOGTV, a 24/7 channel designed specifically for man's best friend, will air nationally next month on the U.S. satellite operator DirecTV, with hopes of attracting dogs in some of the 46 million U.S. households that have at least one.

(they say they 'may' do one for cats later)

(they'd do one for snails if you'd buy it.)
