Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 19 Jan 14 - 06:09 PM In my heart, I knew over a week ago that beating The Broncos in Denver was not gonna happen. Time to put away my lucky charms. I have a 9ers t-shirt.... might even have a Seahawks t-shirt. Tough call. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Elmore Date: 19 Jan 14 - 05:28 PM Pats are breaking my heart. I never thought they'd get this far, but once they did I gave 'em a chance. |

Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 19 Jan 14 - 05:01 PM Looks like the SuperBowl will be the Best passing team against the best Secondary. I hope the weather is good in New York. If the Denver D plays like this, I think it will be a boring game. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 19 Jan 14 - 04:58 PM Last year this time I thought that Carolina needed to spend big money on a top corner back. But look how the D drops off when they are out. Much better to have lots of good fast players and rotate them. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 19 Jan 14 - 04:35 PM Who'd have thought that the Denver D are the stars so far? I expected a 40-35 game. Its looking like it may well be 27-20 or lower. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 19 Jan 14 - 03:47 PM Guest was me. Yes, JtS... consistent calling is required. Better yet, apply the damn rules in the first place. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 19 Jan 14 - 03:33 PM They called a lot of stuff on Carolina that is not even considered "chippy" while Boldin was allowed to head butt after the plays. I'd like to see it called right. For instance Seattle gets away with too much. But if you don't call it right, call it the same for both. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: GUEST Date: 19 Jan 14 - 03:20 PM I seem to remember saying that the chippy shit ruined watching the game for me. Fact is, the refs have a hard time to see it all and to call it all due to the "hey, it's playoff football... let em play". It sucks. Yeah... if they were in New England today... |

Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 16 Jan 14 - 06:29 PM See both pics. Like I said, I never gave truck to autographs, even tho I have a program given to me by Bro with same from the Old Timers NHL team when they played in Germany... Rocket, Dickey and the rest. I was never "star struck" until I got that jersey in the mail. Seriously! I turned into a little kid! A grown hairy ass man! Go figure! Again, thanks Dan. You da man. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 16 Jan 14 - 06:03 PM I didn't see the number in the "selfie" and I can't tell from the way you are displaying the autogaph if the number I see is a 2 on the shoulder or the "S" on the back. Brady's Jersey from an AFC championship is a very cool thing. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 16 Jan 14 - 05:08 PM JtS... I don't understand???? Is it not clear that I took a selfie with a webcam? But, yeah... that is a signed by Brady game jersey from last year's AFC championship. Not certified but the guy (a Mudcatter) that got it for me saying it is because Tom is his buddy is all I need to feel like a kid. I never "got" autographs and such until this jersey arrived in the mail. Seriously... who cares, right? Well, I'll be damned if I didn't put it on and drive all over town and do a seductive striptease taking off my parka to slowly reveal the jersey in front of my buddies to show them such a treasure! Childish? You bet. I am actually somewhat ashamed. But, now, I get this "autograph" thing to a certain extent. |

Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 15 Jan 14 - 12:54 PM Interesting insights from Hardy. I have to admit that this salary cap system is a mystery to me. But I think Gettleman will get the most out of it in 2014 as he did this season. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 15 Jan 14 - 07:09 AM "58 degrees and partly cloudy" Yeah, that's not in the Pats' favour. Could be a factor in what JtS said about gameplans/style. I'll wait for the injury reports tomorrow before I get my hopes up too much. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Elmore Date: 14 Jan 14 - 07:08 PM Rats! Weather for Denver on Sunday; 58 degrees and partly cloudy. Oh well, Brady, Belichick, and company can find a way. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 14 Jan 14 - 03:29 PM I don't think it will be so much about scoring first as to whose style of play dominates. If it is a low scoring game with lots of running, I think New England will dominate. If it is a shootout, all of the sane money will be on Denver. It will probably be in between and be a great game. Denver has three pretty good backs and we all know Brady can throw. I'll be happy if Manning wins, happier if its Brady and over joyed if the winner can beat the SeaHawks or Niners. Sorry west coast fans, But I and sick and tired of hearing how good those guys were all year. They are good but not that good. The Cards, The Panthers and others showed this year that they can be defeated. Maybe Wilson or Kaep can lead their team to the Promised Land. But this year my bet is on a wily vet. :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 14 Jan 14 - 12:54 PM I used to love watching Elway sling that sucker sidearm/softball style. As for the upcoming game, I think it's about who can score first and then about defense. I will cheer for the Pats but I won't be sad or pissed off if they lose. I just want good clean play and officiating on both sides of the ball. I am puttin on my lucky jersey for this one. GO PATS! Go Seahawks. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 14 Jan 14 - 10:08 AM A point I would make about the Broncos is that before Manning came on board, they were so good that they could win in the playoffs without any NFL talent at the QB position. And they did. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 14 Jan 14 - 05:43 AM Agreed. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 13 Jan 14 - 03:20 PM It was a joke. You are right though, that if the Pats win. Belly will deserve credit. If the Broncos win their management deserve credit as well, if only for signing Manning and giving him the tools he needs to win. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 13 Jan 14 - 03:07 PM Hmmm. It think it is fair to say that if the players don't win the game the coach won't win the championship. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 13 Jan 14 - 03:04 PM Sandy Ego* was never an option except that the Pat's would have destroyed them and that's why I cheered (not picked) them. JtS... I agree the Pats can beat the Broncos and I think they have a very good chance to do so. But, any given Sunday eh? Can they then beat the Seahawks? I'd say they have a better chance than with the Broncos. Why? Brady? Blout? Mymandola? Any other player? Nope. Head coach... the master of the game on the gridirons today hands down in my books. Players win games. Coaches win championships. * Named so by Rapparee in Amos' honour. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 13 Jan 14 - 08:44 AM Yeah, I think that Seattle matches up extremely well against SF and their secondary won't be upset by the trash talk and chippiness. Keeping in mind the Panthers were relying undrafted rookies and castoffs from other teams in the secondary. They played their hearts out all yeah but lack of experience did them in. Richard Sherman will give Boldin all the trash he can handle and a few measures beyond that. But I think that New England can beat the Broncos especially if the weather is bad. LaBlont can keep Manning off the field and Brady and his guys can score on them as easily as Rivers and Allen did. I think Seattle will win decisively but I give a slight edge to Brady unless the Broncos play a lot better, a lot better than they did against Sand Diego. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 13 Jan 14 - 06:34 AM I think LEJ has the prognostication correct. GO PATS! |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Lonesome EJ Date: 13 Jan 14 - 12:43 AM It was a joy to watch Philip Rivers lose it and yell at his own teammates, and throw the ball on the ground. I especially enjoyed watching him standing on the sidelines with his helmet on like he's going to go back in as the clock wound down under 2 minutes. The Broncos will have to play offense the entire game against Brady to have a chance though, not only half of the game as they did today. I'll predict a Denver-Seattle Super Bowl though. And I think Seattle's Defense gives them a slight edge |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: J-boy Date: 12 Jan 14 - 11:01 PM Brady V. Manning in the AFC title game! Gonna be one for the ages. |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: gnu Date: 12 Jan 14 - 09:17 PM Good comments, JtS. Bolden got away with the chippy shit BEFORE and after the refs stopped calling it. Odd. Well, there it is for what it is. Not a happy day for me. I like to watch good football and the chippy shit kinda ruined it for me. GO PATS! |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 12 Jan 14 - 07:48 PM Harbaugh says Crabtree is the best pass catcher? Yeah, He's about the seventh or eighth best today: Boldin, Davis, Smitty, Keenan Allen...wow! and three or four on Denver! |
Subject: RE: BS: NFL 2013 - 2014 From: Jack the Sailor Date: 12 Jan 14 - 04:48 PM The weather looks good and the Denver defense seems to be making a play of two. It looks really good for Peyton but I'd rather Rivers won. On the other hand, if that happens, I won't get to see Manning vs Brady. |
