Sorry to disappoint you, Reverend Snort, but no Armageddon today. This neighborhood has been pretty quiet so far and people have been going quietly about their regular business.

The nearest thing to a food riot was the disappointment of the four-year-old who lives across the hall from us when she discovered that they were out of Froot-Loops and her mother had forgotten to buy more. Had to make do with Grape Nut Flakes.

Too bad.

So sad!

Don Firth

"now the last one is me"

Precisely, Jeri.

The rest of us know exactly what we are doing.

Perhaps you enjoy bashing your head against a wall. That would explain your comment.

From Salon magazine

"If you look across the world, riots always begin typically the same way: when people cannot afford to eat food," Margarette Purvis, the president and CEO of the Food Bank for New York City, told Salon Monday. Purvis said that the looming cut would mean about 76 million meals "that will no longer be on the plates of the poorest families" in NYC alone – a figure that outstrips the total number of meals distributed each year by the Food Bank for New York City, the largest food bank in the country. "There will be an immediate impact," she said.

"The fact that they're going to lose what's basically an entire week's worth food" each month, said Purvis, "it's pretty daunting." She told Salon that while policymakers "are attempting to punish people for being poor," and "people are comforted by believing that they know that a person has to have done something wrong in order to be poor," in reality, "I can tell you that more and more folks have more than one job and are still needing help."

Cutting food stamps: The ruthlessness of the American ruling class

Food assistance benefits for over 45 million Americans will be slashed starting this Friday, in the first-ever nationwide reduction in benefits under the US government's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), popularly known as food stamps.

The cuts total $11 billion over the next three years and amount on average to a month's worth of food assistance. They will mean yet more privation for millions of working people, including the poorest and most vulnerable members of society—children, elderly people, the unemployed, the disabled and new mothers.

That this brutal cut takes place under conditions of continuing mass unemployment and economic slump, with record numbers of people living in poverty and homelessness and hunger on the rise, testifies to the ruthlessness of the American ruling class. The callous indifference of the media and the entire political establishment, beginning with the Obama White House, to the suffering of broad layers of the population is reflected in their virtual silence on the imminent cutback in benefits.

As far as the corporate-controlled media is concerned, snatching food from the mouths of hungry children is not even worth reporting. As for the politicians, Democrats as well as Republicans are saying virtually nothing because there is a bipartisan agreement to impose the cuts.

Meanwhile, the government bailout of Wall Street and corporate America continues unabated....

The REAL riot around here is Songwronger.

Like the Right Reverend Pastor Snort predicting that Armageddon will come on Nov. 1 and the world will end in weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth, followed by a huge, planet-destroying explosion.

Then, when Nov. 2 dawns crisp and clear, the unflappable pastor just shrugs his shoulders, picks another date, and starts his wild ranting and raving all over again.

Ho bloody hum. . . .

Don Firth

Remember when Dr. Evil tried holding the world hostage for "one million dollars" and the UN laughed?

This is 2013. If it were eighty *billion* I might be worried.

$80 million dollars. The feds are spending eighty million to prep for riots. How is that a conspiracy? The conspiracy here is a conspiracy of denial.

Nov 1 will be when all the leftover Halloween candy is reduced to half price. Maybe that's why that day was picked for the initial reduction, so that people will still be able to fill their carts up with megaloads of crap and feel like they're livin' large.

We bought some extra food today. I'll be watching for you chumps on the internet, tearing each others' throats over jumbo bags of Baby Ruths. Video your local riot and upload it.

Jeri, my little brother's first job was in a mental hospital. He reported to us that all day long one particular patient walked around peering intently into each corner of the room. Behind him - also all day long- walked another patient railing at him for doing so.

The TeaPubs in the House of un-Representatives refuse to fund food stamps...

They are insisting on the Dems allowing the billion$ to go to agri-business millionaires, however, with a promise - yeah, right - of taking up food stamps in separate legislation...

What??? Do Dems have "moron" tattooed on their foreheads???

Sorry, wrongman but, as per usual, you are living up to your name...

B~

Ohfercrissakes. Look, just take your meds and stop bothering us with blathering stupidity. The meds are nice and will help you a lot. Just take them or those big, burly men will make you take them and put you back in that padded room and take away all of your toys.

I tried to resist looking to see who started this thread. If this guy got paid for every conspiracy theory he comes up with he'd be a wealthy man. He could go work for Murdoch or something....

That's a link to a video (4:36) about the feds spending $80 million to prepare for riots on November 1. Obama and his fascist colleagues in congress are cutting food stamp payouts beginning on that day. Some bullshit about not enough money, yet we have $80 million for...

Anyway, I like this clip. It's from the hated Fox News network and features an interviewee who's black, a member of the Tea Party, and named Niger. lol

This clip serves as a good example of brainwashing. They're talking about food stamps (handouts) yet they call them "entitlements." I've paid into Social Security and Medicare my whole working life. Those are entitlements. I pay for them and I'm entitled to them when the time comes. But I'm not "entitled" to food stamps. The media is linking charity programs to non-charity programs, then saying that payouts across the entire "entitlement" system need to be reduced. So in a couple of months, after people have absorbed the reduction in food stamps, Obama and his fascist colleagues in congress will start talking about reducing payouts in "other" entitlement programs, like Social Security and Medicare. They treat us like four year olds, like we can't see what they're doing.

Anyway, does anyone think there will be riots? You may want to stock a couple of weeks worth of food now, in case shelves are cleared or deliveries are interrupted.
