Tech: Full English website: anyone use it?

Love the Full English, however it is not as user friendly as the take six website used to be. If you want to work through a collection chronologically its a bit difficult. Working with singers names is easier.

It's me again!
I tested the system this morning - and had no problems.
Went back this afternoon - and got the problems that Matt has encountered!!

So something is amiss!

I just tried to see material from Janet Blunt and George Gardiner. (Every tab I brought up was labelled 'Vaughan Williams' regardless of content.) When I did the final click, the click that should actually let me see music, nothing happened.

It was not a question of waiting long enough for the material to come up, because the material didn't even start loading.

(I've just had a tech come out to the house and bring my computer up to snuff. I don't think it's me.)

Hi Matt,
Up to now I've always used The Full English through the search window, since my searches tend to be primarily song-based rather than collector-based ("How many times did Sharp collect 'John Barleycorn'?" etc). You can search all the entries for a collector by this route, of course, though you get (in Lucy Broadwood's case) over 1000 hits, which are difficult to sift through.

OK, so now I've just tried the route via 'Browse'. I got to the Broadwood page, listing items LEB/1 - LEB/9, with orange triangle for each. But - this is so odd I'm still retrying in order to confirm it - usually when I click on the triangle nothing at all happens, but just once I got the spinning disc and, after a few moments, a whole sub-menu opened up from which I could refine the search and finally drill down to the level of individual songs.

I've no idea why this worked once but I can't now repeat it; I must admit I'm using an old and slow computer, but I've been quite as patient as Tim instructed... Wait a minute.... Bingo, it's just worked again! I started again, went through 'Browse' and this time got successfully into the lower levels for Broadwood. Tried a few other collectors and they all worked fine.

Closed that page, started the process again and... nothing.

So the conclusion of my research is: sometimes it works (about one in ten), and most times it doesn't.

Anyone else?

Yes, sounds as if your system is just slow. I did the same as you (though that's not usually how I access it) and it worked fine.

When you get to this stage:
"I just get a momentary spinning-wheel-of-something-loading-up "

that seems to be when your system is slow. It worked for me in a few seconds.

As Tim says, good luck. Or try from a different computer...

I use it all the time. But it sound like you have a slow system - be more patient!
When you want to Browse -
There will be a list on the left side of the collections to browse:
Click that require and it will list items available with a small orange triangle by the side of each, If you click on a Triangle it will show more info.
When you find something you want to look at - click that and an thumbnail image will show up on the right side of the page
Click that for a full page view!!

Every time I've gone on to the EFDSS's Full English website I've given up, totally exasperated. Can anyone tell me how to browse collections on it??!!

I click on 'Browse'. This takes me to a page where I can click on 'The Full English Collections'. This takes me to a page that says 'Browse the Full English'. I click on 'Lucy Broadwood'. This takes me to a page with a list of drop-down arrows, headed 'Lucy Broadwood Collection'. Looks great.

But if I click on any one of those drop-down arrows, I just get a momentary spinning-wheel-of-something-loading-up and then nothing, just a drop-down arrow now pointing downloads, the way it would if there was nothing from Lucy Broadwood in the collection.

if I click on directly on the text, rather than the arrow, it brings up a side-menu with lots of blank fields, and '1 Media Item' at the bottom - a PDF entitled 'The Lucy Broadwood Collection'. I click on it, and get a no-bloody-use-whatsoever scan of the front of a paper document file called 'The Lucy Broadwood Collection'.

Similar story for every other collection on the site.

Am I being stupid? Has anyone successfully used the Browse facility on the Full English? Gotta say I find the site's navigation totally impenetrable. I've managed to find individual songs, searching on titles, but of course I by and large already know about those...
