Subject: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: WyoWoman Date: 27 Nov 99 - 09:51 PM Thanks to a recent thread, I was inspired to order several a cappella CDs. They all arrived today and I'm getting set to OD on a cappella songs. I got Take 6, Voices Only A Cappella Originals, Urban Harmony R&B A Cappella, Boca 99, and the 1998 Harmony Sweepstakes (a cappella festival), plus The Roches because I lost my tape of them somewhere in my travels. BEST OF ALL...I got Animaterra's CD of her a cappella group and it's simply splendid. I'll post another thread on that one after I"ve listened all the way through. Also got the Si Kahn "New Wood" CD and am looking forward to hearing that a great deal. Plainly I need a road trip so I can shut myself up in the car for several hours with all this lovely music. thanks so much to all of you who made suggestions. Also, if any publishers are lurking around, this is an excellent example of why it's valuable to you as well as to us to support the Mudcat Cafe. Just in this one haul, I spent nearly $100 on CDs. And since discovering the Mudcat, that's not an unusual amount for a month (my mail carrier probably hates me, making him lug these CDs around for miles...). One thing the 'Cat does, even if lyrics are provided and even if the Midi gives us the tune, is make us want to go out and get a copy of the music as sung by actual human beans. I'll keep you posted on these CDs if anyone's interested. Off to slap three of them in the player for a nice night's listening. Best, WW (whose voice IS an instrument, by golly) |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: _gargoyle Date: 27 Nov 99 - 10:29 PM Dear W.W. this appears to be your perfect match....... ....................................................yourself... ............................................................with yourself....
There will be no discord...there will be no harmony....there will be no discipline....there will be no compromise...(there will be little beauty except for the circumstances of the immediate moment.)

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: WyoWoman Date: 27 Nov 99 - 11:18 PM What's got such a bug up your butt this evening, _gargoyle? You haven't been this much of an ugly, mean-spirited son of a bitch in a while. Something shitty happen in your life and you're dumping it on everyone you encounter, huh? I think I've finally figured you out. I used to think you were a bitter, nasty man holed up in a dingy, little office all by yourself, just you and your dirty pictures and your dirty mind. Now I think you're a distressed adolescent, sitting in his room all alone, taking it out on anyone who seems to have any fun. Your responses, at least, fit that stage of development. You won't win, you know. Even if you run everyone off and get the site all to yourself, which appears to be what would really make you happy, you'd just be stuck with yourself. Probably pretty familiar territory for you, but is it actually satisfying? By the way, Oh Loathsome One, a cappella doesn't mean solo. Any idiot knows that. How could you make such an amateurish mistake?

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 27 Nov 99 - 11:42 PM And anyone who thinks there is no beauty in a capella solos probably can't hear because he's too busy squeezing his head into a diamond. If you've ever made it to the Starry Plough on a Sunday night and heard Shay Black or Kate Brubeck sing you just might develop a taste...I know I have (but I need my crutch--my banjo; I tried it once without it and felt really naked). --seed |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: Margo Date: 27 Nov 99 - 11:59 PM Goodness, Gargoyle. I'll have to post that photo of you after all, approval or no. You can be so nice sometimes, and other times you are so nasty in a very obtuse way. I do wonder like WW, what is eating you anyway? WyoWoman, I apologise for not posting another acappella group in your other thread. I kind of thought you wanted older style (traditional?) music, and they do original songs. They are at The Edlos. You can listen online to samples. I'm sure you've got enough to keep you busy for a while, but it might be fun to check them out. I like the song called "Garbagemen". Margo |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: Margo Date: 28 Nov 99 - 12:22 AM My dear Garg, my photo is already there. But When I first joined I was Margarita. It is probably listed under that name. I can only be a match in a friendly sort of way since I am Married with kids. But I'd love for you to post your photo. The one I have of you is really cute, I think you'd laugh when you see it. Shall I send it to bbc? Margo |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: Margo Date: 28 Nov 99 - 01:44 PM Gaaaargoyle.... Oh Gaaaaargoyle. Come here, boy. I wish you'd answer my question. I don't want to post the photo and then have you become angry with me. I'll wait a little longer.... but not too long. Margo (Margarita) |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: Rick Fielding Date: 28 Nov 99 - 02:17 PM Wyo. About 3 months ago a couple of wonderful women I know said they were going to start an accapella choir here in Toronto. They would sing traditional and contemporary music, and would not shy away from controversial songs pertaining to social issues. They knew I was too busy but asked if Heather would be interested in joining. I relayed it to her but she deferred on the grounds that she can't carry a tune in a bucket! It sounded like a very ambitious project, that would involve a lot of time, patience and planning, but my friends did the work and this week I heard that they're doing their first concert! I'm so proud. 70 voices (and they're still looking for folks) at their debut. (which I'm going to have to miss) Heather's going (it's this Wednesday) so I'll have here throw a report back at you. Dont worry 'bout Garg, he's so over the top now, most are just laughing. Rick |

Subject: RE: I'm in a cappella HEAVEN! From: WyoWoman Date: 28 Nov 99 - 06:26 PM I'll wait for that report. Meanwhile, read my post for Animaterra's tape. And ORDER one. It's terrific. I swear to God, I'm moving to Toronto. Surely there's SOMEthing I could do there that would fit under the "essential" category. Un, wait. It's, like, really COLD up there, isn't it? Let's rethink this .... Looking forward to hearing Heather's review... ww |
