God.

It never ceases to astonish me being shown the depths of ignorance my fellow Americans are likely to exhibit. It makes me wonder if a partial result of the information revolution is that it's easier for nutcases and conspiracy paranoids to get their "information" and "facts" out to an ever expanding audience. That more people glean their "information" from undocumented sources with dubious trustworthiness (or grip on reality) coupled with a seeming trend for not teaching critical thinking scares the bejabbers out of me.

That some government agents/agencies lie ≠ ALLgovernment agents/agencies lie gets completely lost on people who think an "argument" means a fight, rather than a line of reasoning, and LOLcats are the height of their philosophical thinking.

How can you defend against stupid?

But the stories of guns being confiscated are absolutely true! Just click right here. Yes, that's Barack Obama shooting a Browning Citori over-under shotgun. Obama likes to shoot, so he's abusing his power as Commander in Chief by having Army grunts confiscate weapons from law abiding Texans to illegally enlarge his own gun collection!

On the other hand, the rumors of using closed-down Walmarts as detention centers are 100% bogus. I cannot imagine a Walmart in Texas being closed down. A Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million, yes, but not a Walmart or a BassPro Shop.

For a nation which sees itself as a leading superpower the antics of some of its citizens and politicians leave much of the world shaking their heads in disbelief.

There is a group of folks here(Mudcat, U.S.) that tend to get defensive and prickly when natives of the British Isles take the U.S. to task and/or poke fun at it.

If the face the U.S. presents to the world includes events like this Jade Helm idiocy and the candidacy of Trump & the rest of the Republican clown act, who the hell can blame our British cousins for doing so??

If I remember correctly the rumors started at Alex Jones's Inforwars.com. If not - it's the type of thing he would promote. According to Alex Jones the Sandy Hook massacre was committed by Government agents in order to "take our guns".

As one blogger said you don't need government troops to force people into a Walmart. Just announce a half price sale on ammo,camouflage clothing and frozen chicken nuggets. Then open the doors and stand back.

And do I need to point out that a good share of the Navy Seals and Green Berets that are supposed to be invading were probably from Texas in the first place? It's not like the government has a bunch of Hessian troops waiting in the wings.

I thought that this subject had been covered months ago, but the U.S. Military Exercise code named Jade Helm 15 began about three weeks ago. People in Texas and elsewhere are still looking for an invasion by American Troops who were expected to take away the guns of private ciitzens and either hiding or imprisoning people in underground tunnels in closed Wal-Marts. The Texas governor did rescind his order for the Texas National Guard to keep an eye on the invaders.

My concern is that there are people in this country who are so ignorant or twisted that they are wanting to believe such theories. An even worse there are those creating stories to feed on these fears. I wish I had the answer and knew a way of calming folk down and using common sense and reason.
