Subject: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Aug 15 - 09:25 AM Anyone read it yet? We have it in the family but it is not my turn yet! Good review in The Guardian. (Spoiler Warning!) Good reviews all over in fact but I would not really expect anything else. I am looking forward to it :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 31 Aug 15 - 09:39 AM Me too, although I'll have to wait for the paperback edition |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Aug 15 - 02:11 PM Mind you, having read the comedy fantasies on some of threads running at the moment I wonder if the late lamented Mr P can do any better... :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: akenaton Date: 31 Aug 15 - 02:24 PM Persistent troll. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: MMario Date: 31 Aug 15 - 03:09 PM Comes out tomorrow in the US. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Aug 15 - 04:03 PM See what I mean? It must be nice to have nothing more to do that stalk someone on threads that you are not going to contribute to. Still, I suppose if I am getting to him so much I must be doing something right :-) Nice to hear from you MM. Hope you enjoy it and sorry you had to put up with that. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Raggytash Date: 31 Aug 15 - 04:32 PM I do find it rather surprising that a poster can claim that others are a troll when he posts just two words that say " Persistent troll" Not that he is known himself for adding anything of a positive nature to any discussion. Akenaton, if you don't like the topic leave it alone, you sound very much like a troll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Nigel Parsons Date: 31 Aug 15 - 04:37 PM Getting back to the subject: I'm looking forward to it, but not starting it yet. I assume publishers regularly publish books on the same day (only 365 days, and so many thousands of books) but "The Shepherd's Crown" came out on the same day as "The Girl in the Spider's Web". So I had to make a choice as to which to read first. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Penny S. Date: 31 Aug 15 - 04:49 PM Read it as soon as it arrived on the doorstep, Thursday evening and Friday morning, Whereupon I found I had somehow managed not to read all of the previous book about Tiffany (started before some Christmas and switched to a gift book out of manners, I think) so read that into Saturday morning. And I've looked out my micraster fossil. Not as good as Tiffany's. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Aug 15 - 04:51 PM Didn't know that one. Nigel. Had to look it up! Read the Dragon Tatoo but didn't get any further - Fine writing but did not really rock my boat. Enjoyed the film too. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Sep 15 - 09:13 AM Others should have done with it by weekend. I just need to finish off what I am currently reading and I can say bye-bye to the real world for a couple of days :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Nigel Parsons Date: 02 Sep 15 - 04:45 PM Coming to Cardiff for a few nights next week: The Night Watch I've got tickets booked for the Wednesday. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Sep 15 - 04:58 PM I'm Jealous! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: GUEST,LynnH Date: 03 Sep 15 - 01:29 PM It's (english version) not arrived in Germany yet. Probably christmas. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Reinhard Date: 03 Sep 15 - 02:45 PM But is has, LynnH. I bought my copy at Thalia in Hamburg today. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Rumncoke Date: 04 Sep 15 - 07:05 AM I read the Shepherd's Crown and wept, not because it is a bad book, because it is the last. It could be criticised for lacking the genius of other Discworld stories, but under the circumstances that seems ungrateful. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: MMario Date: 04 Sep 15 - 04:35 PM I wept; for several reasons, none of which were bad authorship. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Brian May Date: 07 Sep 15 - 06:11 PM Wonderful book, it's great but the reading of it can be profoundly sad as each of us realises that this is the last from the great author. Anything else will really just be a retread. I have all his books on my Kindle and have sadly added this wonderful conclusion to the Tiffany Aching offshoot of Discworld. RIP Sir Terry |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Nigel Parsons Date: 10 Sep 15 - 06:12 AM Great (amateur) production of Night Watch last night. (all profits to Alzheimers research) 4 more nights (and a Saturday matinee) to go. The lead actor did not play Sam Vimes, he was Sam Vimes. I'm very much looking forward to their production of "Going Postal" in Feb 2016 |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 01 Oct 15 - 02:50 AM I finished it last night and agree with all the sentiments above. Very good story and very witty but very sad for all the reasons stated. For anyone who has heard Steeleye Span's album, "Wintersmith", it is good to see that Tiffany resolves some of the things that her character talks about on the track "We shall wear midnight". I shall say no more in case of spoilers :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Shepherd's Crown From: Dave the Gnome Date: 01 Oct 15 - 02:51 AM BTW - I only started it on Tuesday. It has not taken me all month to read but I was way down the queue for who has the book next! |
