Subject: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: Kampervan Date: 21 Oct 15 - 08:10 AM China is to build a nuclear power station in the UK based on Chinese nuclear technology. Why does the thought 'Trojan Horse' spring unbidden into my mind? Or am I just being paranoid? |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 21 Oct 15 - 08:50 AM Trojan Horse ??? - what.. the cheeky little commie blighters are digging a tunnel from China that'll come out under a big hidden trap door in Hinkley Point...!!??? The secret invasion starts here.. surprise attack.. tanks rolling over Stogursey and Nether Stowey !!!!! Hoards of Chinese special forces soldiers forming massive queues at the dodgy oriental takeaways in Bridgwater...!!! Where's James Bond and Adge Cutler when we need them.....????? 😨 |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: Steve Shaw Date: 21 Oct 15 - 09:34 AM I must say that this whole camaraderie thing with the Chinese regime gives me bellyache. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 21 Oct 15 - 09:48 AM not as much of a bellyache as the Chinese army will get if they eat at any Bridgwater oriental takeaways.. that'll halt their invasion in it's tracks... 😜 |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: Steve Shaw Date: 21 Oct 15 - 10:20 AM I once reached a very low ebb indeed in Bridgwater. I was on day three cycling back from Manchester to Bude over four days on my own and I'd just had a terrible time crossing the Somerset Levels into the teeth of a force 6 south-westerly. I was on the point of abandoning the trip and ringing Mrs Steve to come and get me. Good job there were no mobiles in those days. I found a pasty shop before I found a phone box. The two grim pasties I scoffed on that park bench in Bridgwater refuelled me enough to get me to Exford youth hostel on Exmoor. I went for a few jars that evening with a bloke in the pub in Exford, which was full of hunting types and stags' heads everywhere up on the walls. One of the hunter twats started to take the piss out of my shorts, singing Donald Where's Your Troosers at me. Didn't give a monkeys meself but to my surprise my mate, who I'd never met before, took serious umbrage on my behalf and went for the hunter twat big-time. Had to be dragged off, he did. He had a teenage lad with him who was well up for the scrap as well. Jaysus, I thought I had a nasty escalation on my hands. Ugly, but we did get to finish our pints. Nice place, Exford. I wonder whether they'd let me back in the pub yet. I was bloody innocent I tell you. That was in 1990 by the way. I might well be passing that way in the next couple of weeks. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: Richard Bridge Date: 21 Oct 15 - 11:06 AM Well, a chinese reactor built with sub-standard dumped chinese steel getting a huge UK subsidy. What could possibly go wrong? You did see the picture of the brand new block of flats that fell over in Shanghai, didn't you? |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: Kampervan Date: 21 Oct 15 - 11:20 AM Yes, I'm just being paranoid, nothing to worry about at all. I suppose that if they're going to own the place then they'll have a vested interest in making sure that it's a safe place to live, won't they. |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST,Dave Date: 21 Oct 15 - 11:39 AM I have nothing against the Chinese, nothing at all (well maybe Tibet), but how have we as a country got to the state where we cannot do this ourselves? |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 21 Oct 15 - 11:47 AM I've just had a 360 degree look around my small densley packed computer room den.. and amongst all the guitars, amps, computer gear, audio gear, odds and sods... I can only see one thing that was made in Britain, and not manufactured in China, Korea, or Vietnam.. a Hayman guitar made over 40 years ago... Oh.. and the walls of the house itself.. 1880s... Just better hope Chinese reactors are at least as reliable as their mass produced guitar amps...??? 😐 |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 21 Oct 15 - 11:56 AM .. anyway, isn't Hinkley going to be a French reactor...??? 😕 oh well.. at least the French make good sexy movies.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: GUEST Date: 21 Oct 15 - 12:05 PM but how have we as a country got to the state where we cannot do this ourselves? Partially because Maggie preferred us to buy stuff off them rather than make it ourselves so they have now got all our money. That said, if you are into nuclear, there is an argument for the French strategy of buying a job lot from the same place rather than wasting time and money trying to do better. That way when one breaks you can check out the others for the same fault. That, so I am told, is why there are not many different sorts (as opposed to makes) of wind turbine... |
Subject: RE: BS: Chinese nuclear help for the UK From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 Oct 15 - 09:53 AM Will you walk into my parlour?" said the Spider to the Fly, 'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to shew when you are there." Oh no, no," said the little Fly, "to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again." |
