Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 16 - 12:50 AM If Trump is elected, it will be all the rage to exhibit a multitude of mental issues. (Who was the king who had a lisp, an affliction that became popular among the masses?) |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Backwoodsman Date: 29 Sep 16 - 02:13 AM Pedro of Castille (1334-69), whose speech defect was believed to have been the basis of the Spanish pronunciation of the letter 'C'. But it's apparently not true |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Backwoodsman Date: 29 Sep 16 - 02:21 AM Aaaaah, a little more research shows that it's thought it might have been ole Pedro (because it's described as the Castillian Lisp), but that the pronunciation wasn't adopted until around 200 years after his death, so it's very unlikely to have been him! All interesting stuff at 7am, when the missus is getting ready for work and further sleep is impossible for us old retired guy So! |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: DMcG Date: 29 Sep 16 - 02:25 AM Folk musicians are prone to OCD. They get a piece of music and it's all ABAB and if it isn't done exactly five times it is just not right. |

Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Senoufou Date: 29 Sep 16 - 07:36 AM Well I was born batty and have only got battier over the years. It manifests itself in arachnophobia and an obsession with Morris dancing, Siamese cats and buttered crumpets. It's my Birthday today (21 again) and I can't say I've got any more sane, especially regarding the crumpets. In fact my lovely husband has just brought me two of 'em and a nice cup of tea, bless him! |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Backwoodsman Date: 29 Sep 16 - 07:59 AM Can't beat buttered crumpets (or 'pikelets', as they're wont to be known out here in The Backwoods of Lincolnshire). Happy Birthday, dear Eliza! ❤️ |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Charmion Date: 29 Sep 16 - 08:11 AM Happy birthday from me, too, Eliza. Morris dancing, Siamese cats and buttered crumpets are sane things to be obsessed about, in my admittedly arrogant opinion. Try again. |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 29 Sep 16 - 10:27 AM Happy 21st Again! The 21st Again is an excellent birthday! Especially if celebrated with cats & crumpets delivered by a lovely husband. |

Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Donuel Date: 30 Sep 16 - 10:00 AM UNDIAGNOSED? We the people do all the diagnosing around here. We diagnosed Trump as a compulsive liar who is loved by fellow liars. LIEING DOES HAVE FRINGE BENEFITS that is appreciated by Trump like people but despised by others. When we see flaming trolls we all diagnosed them as a sadistic perpetrator and victim without resolution. When we see Ebbie , well we don't see Ebbie. When we read DMmcG we can see he is on the polite side of being anal and anti OCD, the guy hates repetition. When it comes to the librarian we see his frustration in his reaction to a society that by in large will forever MISS THE POINT. Amos (plural of Amo and short for Ammunitions) is diagnosed as taking the phrase 'brevity is the soul of wit' to extremes , except when waxing poetically about horses and trains. Yes it is we who judge, diagnose, pigeon hole and rank others right or wrong. Most of us think of ourselves as a little funny and by the posts here, some are "funnier" than others. Except Backwardsman. As for me, I am merely full goose bonkers. |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Donuel Date: 30 Sep 16 - 10:20 AM That leaves Senofou who can serve as a baseline of normalcy owing to the fact Senofou stayed home and studied while most others went to that ill advised party. |

Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Nigel Paterson Date: 30 Sep 16 - 11:14 AM Patient: "Doctor, doctor, I think I'm a pair of curtains." Doctor: "Don't be silly, man, pull yourself together." Nice to dust off the old ones......occasionally...... I'll get me coat... |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 Sep 16 - 11:59 AM "Doctor, I keep thinking I'm the Invisible Man." "Who said that?" |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 30 Sep 16 - 12:19 PM "Doctor, I think that I am a chicken." "Hold that thought while I see how we are for eggs." |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Senoufou Date: 30 Sep 16 - 01:24 PM "Doctor, doctor, I keep thinking I'm a cat." "How long has this been going on?" "Ever since I was a kitten." "Doctor doctor, can you give me something for this terrible wind?" "Of course. Here's a kite." |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Donuel Date: 30 Sep 16 - 03:20 PM Some people are "funnier" than others. Those who are not a little "funny" are paranoid the joke is about them. When it comes to abnormal psychology I think of a trinity of trauma/birth defects, biochemical imbalance and experiential victimization. We all have a unique recipe with a sprinkling of all three pathologies. The person who thinks they are free of all three is like Donald Trump. The more he protests and protects, the "funnier" he gets. Dumbuel. (IQ of 42 Yahoo) Doctor Doctor I strike out at people who attack me. Who is attacking you? Everyone, eventually. PS in the US there is a great TV ad all about being passive - aggressive. |

Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Donuel Date: 01 Oct 16 - 10:34 AM Rap can satirize easily because he knows whom he may chide without offense. I however should use emoji. Good mental health can be taught like hygiene. We are not hide to the bone and often have thin skin. Learning to shed water off your back like a duck makes for a happier person. All flattery and no criticism makes Jack a dull boy and visa versa. Some of us are very literal. I call them linear. Some of us are more relativistic. I call them dimensional. It is best for each to have both aspects in their lives. Or we end up with people who are just Donald Trumps or Russell Brands. |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: CupOfTea Date: 01 Oct 16 - 12:37 PM The way things are in the US today makes me think of a phrase my aunt used to use: "All the world is crazy but for me and thee, and sometimes I wonder about thee" I'm not sure of the source - her Quaker father? - but I'm right up there in thinking most of the world must have some degree of pathology for things to be as they are. Mass paranoia, narcissism, megalomania, and aggression in excess all seem to be growing trends. I'm likely undiagnosed as a caffeine addict.* Does enjoying accordions, banjos and sopranos qualify as a mental health issue? Joanne in Cleveland * an addiction that's not always so funny: recently found out that my high intake of tea as my only hydration contributed to agonizing muscle cramps. |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Senoufou Date: 01 Oct 16 - 01:30 PM Joanne, the quote is said to originate in New Lanark (Scotland) and was said by Robert Owen (1771-1858) It originally was, "All the world is queer save thee and me, and even thou art a little queer." I think you're right here with the rest of us loonies with your banjo, accordion and soprano enjoyment! As for addiction to tea, well, I'm a raging addict too, and I'm as mad as a box of frogs... |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Donuel Date: 02 Oct 16 - 10:14 AM Loonies? I play the classical bass ukulele, tell me about it. |
Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Nigel Paterson Date: 02 Oct 16 - 11:11 AM Speaking as both patient & practitioner, good mental health has never been a 'given'. Donuel's remarks are very pertinent in that regard, to which I would add 'nature & nurture' & our DNA. I am greatly encouraged by the increased willingness of the public, patients & their families, professionals & professional organisations, the media, local & national government to engage in the mental health debate. This is a very generalised overview of the evolving situation in the UK. I would be extremely interested to hear from anyone living outside the UK. In what state of health is 'The Mental Health Debate' in your neck of the woods? To conclude; a personal view: I see Physiology & Psychology slowly, inexorably converging until they reach a point when a patient's treatment plan will, by default, favour neither & include both. Finally, from Donuel's elegant prose: "We all have a unique recipe with a sprinkling of.... pathologies". |

Subject: RE: BS: undiagnosed mental health issues From: Bill D Date: 03 Oct 16 - 11:43 AM about age: I once heard a group of youngsters discussing it. One said: "OMG, I'm turning 20 next week! I'll be old!" I stepped over and gently interrupted: "Hey, 20 is good! I liked turning 20... if fact, I liked it so much, I did it three times, and trying for four!" (only 2 /12 years to go!) They just looked at me like I had a 'diagnosed' mental issue... |
