The thing about a recipe that calls for 2T of sherry, is what do you do with the rest of it? This recipe helps: Sherry beef and onions. Cut a yellow onion into wedges, cutting from top to bottom. Put a slow-cooker bag (for easy cleanup) into a slow cooker. Put a beef chuck roast in the slow cooker. Press the meat against the bottom of the cooker. Strew the onion on top and around the beef. Pour 1/2 cup sherry over all. Add 1-2 bay leaves, slipping them into the liquid. Slow cook all day, till beef is tender. Serve over cooked noodles. Leftover beef makes nice sandwiches. |

The day before, boil potatoes and hard-boil eggs so they're completely cold. The day of, slice potatoes, eggs, and some good Hungarian kolbasz/spicy sausage; set aside some of the large, whole potato slices. Butter a deep baking dish generously Put a layer of sliced potatoes, one of sliced eggs, one of sliced sausage, and put a *lot* of sour cream and more butter on, then another layer of sliced potatoes. Then, lean on the potato layer with splayed hands to press it down everywhere, then repeat till the dish is full, leaning on each potato layer. Use the reserved pretty tater slices for the top, press down, top with more butter, bake at 350 for 45 mn or so, till the top taters are deep brown and crisp and chewy and to be fought over. The whole thing simmers in the buttery sour cream sausage juice and permeates the eggs and potatoes, it is one of the best foods in the universe. Again, be healthy so it doesn't kill you. |

The problem was neither of us drink so I still have 30+ year old single malt scotch, whisky, Sherry etc. I tried cooking with liquor but it was awful. |

The real name just means sliced potatoes. Rocket Crumple is way better. My vegetarian sister makes it with mushrooms instead of sausage, but I look down my nose at that. They say it's still yummy. |
