Are undershorts boxer shorts,Y-fronts or something else?

Never been to confession, Senoufou? Good grief, your soul must be blacker than black by now! As yoofs we went to confession on Saturday afternoons. That kept you clean and bright for Communion next morning as long as you were careful. Our teachers used to tell us that the best time to get run over by a bus was just as you left the church after confession. Even in my early teens I couldn't help thinking that this conveyed the wrong message! These days I hear my own confessions and I find it hard work. But, as I'm always very nice to Joe, I never have anything to confess on that score. I can be very horrible to spoons/bones/bodhran/shaky egg players, but every time I try to confess it God sends me down a fiery thunderbolt message saying that there's nothing to confess as he completely agrees with me.

On topic, am I the only bloke here who has had to dig out the escaped bra wire from the washing machine filter which has just caused the outhouse to flood? Three times???

(She handwashes them now!)

I am trying to recall if there have been posts, on this or any other thread, from men who have sympathy for the women in their lives -- partners, blood relatives, or whoever -- for whom the breast-support issue has been a genuine ordeal.

I am talking of pain, genuine physical pain. Back pain, hunched shoulders. One dressage equestrian posted (on a different website) that the Enell sports bra, which for some women is a God-send, left her with SCARS, and I believe she meant that literally; she did better with a garment that had a lot more compression than the Enell has. Of course you realize what equestrians, who happen to have bosoms, go through: they all speak ruefully about being on a trotting horse.

I know there are men out there who feel in sympathy with the women in their lives, and are protective and understanding of them; I guess they have reasons of their own for not posting, and those have to be respected.

While we have your attention, olddude,
could you be persuaded to tell us more
about your new four-footed friend,
maybe on the Our Amazing Dogs thread?

Yes, keberoxu, there are many of us men who are in sympathy with the women in our lives....and one way we show that sympathy, is by not posting that kind of stuff about her on the Internet. I wouldn't dream of revealing that sort of stuff about my wife.

Steve, "undershorts" is not a common term in the U.S. - but it gets past the boxer-briefs question that I didn't want to address. As for confession, I guess I wasn't brought up with such a rigid idea of it. We were more concerned about wearing clean underwear in case a bus hit us, so we'd be dressed appropriately for the emergency room in the hospital. I never really thought about needing to go to confession in case I got hit by a bus. I had my tighty whiteys on, so I was good to go.

Joe, Have you tried Ex Officio Travel Underpants? I use them for hiking, travel, camping, fishing (under waders) and they are more comfortable than any cotton briefs I've ever worn and wick away perspiration as well. You can hand wash them and in most climates they're dry in the morning.

Dunno about donning clean undies just in case a bus hits you (or even in case you meet the woman of your dreams in Tesco who immediately whisks you off to her love nest). Dodgy motivation there. I've tended instead to live by the adage (which must be spoken in an exaggerated Hyacinth Bucket voice):

"Undies worn twaice are not quaite naice."

Once is enough. We needed a callout from a repairman to take the machine apart.

Only a few brands seem susceptible to escaping wires. In the better ones the "wire" is a flat strip of spring steel with a couple of holes that can be stitched in place, so it won't just slide out if the end of the channel opens up.
