When I was in elementary school (Brooklyn, 1950s) we sang a set of words to Ode to Joy that do not seem to be anywhere on Google. I remember the first two lines:

Ode to joy from Heaven descending
Hail joy all you here below...

Does anyone know the rest or where it came from? Yes, I know there are several sets of words sung to Ode to Joy, notably Jabowocky and parodies thereof.

Jabberwocky? That would be an awkward fit - different metre (8:8:8:6 iambic versus 8:7:8:7 trochaic).

BTW only poets measure metres in feet.

BobL - Jabberwocky sings to beautifully to Ode to Joy. Just stretch a couple of syllables. I was trying to find you one on youtube, but there are a number of tunes people sang it to and I did not see how to limit the search to that tune. (jabberwocky ode to joy got all ode to joys with any words and ode to joy jabberwocky got all jabbowockys at any tune).

Nigel - thanx, but I did not see this set of words. Our chorus is singing the common Joyful, Joyful words, which is what got me started thinking about this.

The party piece of the squire of a morris side I was once involved was to sing the label off a Guinness bottle:

Brewed by Arthur Guinness Son & Company, Park Royal Ltd
Extra Stout Guinness
Registered Trademark Arthur Guinness
Bottled by John Courage Ltd, London SE1
Minimum contents 9 fluid ounces
Brewed in London, England.

He was also fond of pointing out that by the time the Thames reaches London it has passed through at least 9 human bodies, before arriving at Watney's brewery.

A little more dredged up from 60 years ago:

Ode to joy from Heaven descending
Hail joy all you here below...
   ...
second part of melody:
   ...
   ... united
Here we meet on common ground
   ...

When I was a student, the Oxford University Morris Men used to sing the Guinness label, but bottled by Allied Breweries, UK Ltd, Burton-on-Trent. Minimum contents 9 and 2/3 fluid ounces...
