Subject: Fox News messes up interview
From: keberoxu
Date: 23 Jul 18 - 04:37 PM

Freshly reported today at the Boston Globe.
Fox News wanted a particular person for a remote interview on air.
Imagine the surprise of the anchors
when a different person entirely showed up.

The person they wanted was Ann Kirkpatrick.
But she knew absolutely nothing about being booked for Fox News.

Someone behind the scenes at Fox News used "the press contact they had 'on file' " for Kirkpatrick.
However, Kirkpatrick, a candidate in the upcoming elections
(U. S. Congress),
was never contacted in fact.

I tried to make a link, but it didn't work.
Anybody else here about the Fox News snafu?
Until I read it, I thought I had heard everything . . .

The real Ann Kirkpatrick

Ironically the above interview, some eight months old, is --
you guessed it -- a Fox TV channel broadcast.

I have no comment on the participants
in this morning's live-on-television snafu.

But if I were Ann Kirkpatrick I would not be at all amused.

Links are dicey for me today, so
I'm going to resort to quoting.

Still poring over info about Ann Kirkpatrick.
Native of Tucson, Arizona.
Previously served in House of Representatives
in the U. S. Congress.
She ended her (Democratic party) Rep term
running for U. S. Senate, and lost the race.

In the upcoming US elections,
Arizona has a US Senate race,
for which Arpaio -- THE Arpaio -- is amongst the candidates,

and Arizona has a US Representative race,
in which Ann Kirkpatrick
wants to return to serving in the House, as before.

"These children are not criminals.
They have committed no crime
and they do not deserve to be separated from their parents. "
-- Ann Kirkpatrick to the Arizona Star news

Now,
where did Fox News get the idea that
Ann Kirkpatrick supported the ICE ... ?

some years back a new manager in our local council was asked to produce a poster with the mayor's photo on it.

Google images produced a pic (probably many more than one) of mayor & others but the wrong face was used in the poster - oops. The Mayor was also not amused.

Surely there would have been pics of this long serving public official alone & not in groups, & you & I might have asked colleagues if we had the right person ...

May have found an answer to my own question.
Fox News anchors, during the "Fox & Friends" morning talk show
that produced today's on-air snafu,
were prepared to ask,
What does Ann Kirkpatrick have to say about
being in support of ICE?
(In fact they did ask. You noticed what happened.)

Here is what Newsweek reports.
On July 19 (this past Friday), a forum was held
by a super-PAC named "Represent Me Arizona"
in which Marian Chubon -- spelling? -- is active.

The forum of election candidates included Ann Kirkpatrick.
Before the live audience (Congressional District 2),
the forum moderator asked for a show of hands from the candidates
of those who would
"support ICE agents without any increased oversight."

And the booing began, because Kirkpatrick silently raised her hand.
Newsweek says that it reviewed a "heavily edited video"
released afterwards by the super-PAC.
The video showed no direct statements about ICE, pro or con,
coming verbally from Ann Kirkpatrick.

Unless FOX News had access to something else that
I have yet to turn up in my searches,
it was based on the publicity around this super-PAC forum
that Ann Kirkpatrick is publicly viewed as
supportive of the ICE.
That this recent event
is the reason that FOX News went through the motions (?)
of booking an on-air contact with "Ann Kirkpatrick."

Well, this has all happened within the last twenty-four hours
(the on-air snafu, I mean)
so it will interest me to see
how Kirkpatrick responds in the very near future.

We'll see if she makes a different impression
from the person who surprised FOX News this morning.

As for Kirkpatrick's campaign,
the state primary election date is late August --
roughly four weeks away.

In the year 2009, when Barack Obama was in the Oval Office,
Ann Kirkpatrick was a "freshman" US Representative for
the 1st Congressional District in Arizona.
This proves me wrong in an earlier post on this thread.
That district, "CD1", covers northeastern Arizona.

The 2nd Congressional District in Arizona is to the south,
and includes the municipality of Tucson.
I was incorrect to say that Ann Kirkpatrick was a native of Tucson.

After serving as the US Representative for Arizona's CD1,
she relocated to CD2 so as to run for office
in the same state, but in a different congressional district.
I apologize for the error.

Ann Kirkpatrick is a Democrat, and when she served northeastern Arizona
in CD1, she took a seat that had previously been Republican.
She is still a Democrat today.

CD2, with Tucson in it, is becoming a swing vote
in this special primary election;
Arizona's history as a red state may be changing,
even though Republican John McCain continues as US Senator.
The campaign for the CD2 Representative is crowded for candidates
from the Democratic Party alone, however.
Arizona may be ... turning purple.

Why do I bring up 2009 for Ann Kirkpatrick?

Remember the disclosure above, about the
"Fox & Friends First" talk-show snafu at the Fox News network?
That they had a press contact "on file", for Ann Kirkpatrick,
through whom the Monday morning appearance had been booked,
and it was because of Fox News' negotiations with this press contact
that somebody entirely different from Ann Kirkpatrick
showed up via Skype on live television on Fox News?

The press contact is named Joe Katz.
He did indeed work for Ann Kirkpatrick ... in 2009,
when she represented CD1 from Arizona in the US Congress.

This month he heard from Fox News because he used to be
the manager for Ann Kirkpatrick, and Fox News wanted Kirkpatrick.
Never mind that, today,
Joe Katz represents a Democratic candidate running for Congress in
. . . Massachusetts.
No, never mind. Katz had this contact drop into his hands, so to speak,
and he took the ball and ran with it ...
with the Massachusetts candidate, without telling Fox News ahead of time.
In fact, Joe Katz cheerfully pulled up an Ann Kirkpatrick logo in his responding e-mails to Fox News, and when questions were put to him by somebody at Fox News --
whose job, as I ventured in the thread title, must be toast --
Katz told Fox News whatever they wanted to hear.

If I were Ann Kirkpatrick,
Joe Katz would, erm, hear from me.

What Joe Katz told the Boston Globe when asked about
his communications with the Fox News network:

"We showed the exact same commitment
to truth, fairness, and accuracy
that Fox News always has. "

In the meantime:

that primary election for
Arizona's Congressional District 2
takes place on 28 August 2018.

This is the U.S. House of Representative position
previously filled by Gabrielle Gifford,
who was shot, and barely survived, a few years ago.
Gun control vs. gun rights is a very emotional issue
in this district.
Ann Kirkpatrick states that
Gifford endorses her (Kirkpatrick's) candidacy.
(Wonder if that's true.)

And while we are talking of Arizona,
here's who is on the ballot for the vacancy in the U. S. Senate:
Green Party:               Angela Green
Libertarian Party:         Adam Kokesh
Democrats:                Deedra Abboud
                           Kyrsten Sinema
Republicans:               Joe Arpaio
                           Martha McSally
                           Nicholas N. Glenn
                           William Gonzales
                           Kelli Ward

Well,
I guess Fox News already knows
what Joe Arpaio thinks of ICE ...

this particular primary could be a dramatic one.

This is how some of Barbara L'Italien's possible future constituents
feel about the fast one that
she and Joe Katz pulled on Fox And Friends First morning talk show.
