Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Steve Shaw Date: 10 Sep 21 - 07:15 AM I think I'd go and show my face, Eliza, but I might avoid anything indoors or crowding round stalls. Outdoors is pretty safe by all accounts. And you have been jabbed! Nothing would prevent me from having a go at the coconut shy... |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Steve Shaw Date: 10 Sep 21 - 06:54 AM I gave you a couple of instances from the piece that are highly dubious. I could have quoted more. I'm not dissing the whole five decades of your investigative journalism programme. But here you have a man claiming to have a magic bullet to end all pandemics forever. And you are not even a teensy bit sceptical? I don't think you've read it. I have! By the way, my background is in biological science. So, just a guess, if you think I don't know as much about the science, etc., it's a fair bet that you know even less. And one deeply-ingrained aspect of scientific endeavour is that one's first reaction to a new idea is scepticism. It then behoves you to delve deeper to look for substance. Well I read the piece and found the substance to be highly dubious, and I gave you just two examples among more that I noticed. OK? |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Senoufou Date: 10 Sep 21 - 03:32 AM I just heard yesterday from my neighbour that there are three cases of Covid in our (small) village. I was shocked really (so was she) so my husband and I have decided NOT to go to our village fete tomorrow. It's called the Lyng Fling, and comprises a carboot sale, vintage tractors, a fire engine and some Police horses, plus bric-a-brac stalls. It's all outdoors, but there will be children running around and crowds of people. We had intended to go wearing our clinical masks, but I'm too scared now. Not worth the risk. |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Sep 21 - 11:22 PM Steve, your dismissal is not going to fly. You don't know as much about the science as the scientists who were interviewed do. Please stop making assumptions about programs you're not familiar with and about the science you clearly don't have the total grasp of. I trust the reporting from CBS far more than I trust your "I don't think so, it looks like bullshit" pronouncements. |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Steve Shaw Date: 09 Sep 21 - 12:02 PM I am referring exclusively to the item linked to, which has a bloke claiming that he has a magic bullet for all viruses or something. He hasn't. We have a programme this end called Panorama, generally reputable if occasionally amateurish, which is also capable of generating bullshit every now and again. It happens. Let's take a look. They did an experimental, untested procedure on a woman nearly dead with sepsis. Completely unethical. Presumably, the experiment withheld the standard emergency antibiotic treatment for sepsis (otherwise they wouldn't have known what had worked...). She recovered in four days (we're told). Fairly rapid recovery from sepsis isn't that unusual. He also claims to have the 1918 flu virus to hand. He hasn't. It's a reconstructed version thereof. We all know about mutant strains these days, don't we? I won't go on. As I said, let's not be taken in. Your man is of interest only. He is by no means the prospective saviour of the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Sep 21 - 11:21 AM Perhaps you're not familiar with Sixty Minutes. Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Donuel Date: 09 Sep 21 - 07:02 AM Yes the price of stupid is so expenive now it is unaffordable for the unvaccinated who are 99% of the currently infected. The main cause is that some people do not like being told what to do, tough, there are some things you have to do to live. It is tough being told you now have to die because of your vaccine resitance. The news here is grim with a quarter million childhood infections, 1 in 4 of all infections. We tried to pretend we turned a corner but in reality we are in the middle of pandemic times and are entering a seasonal multidemic battle with flu as well. We can easily recognize who contributes new important and unimportant news on the pandemic and those who merely carp about others here. True contributors include links to factual studies and stories. I suggest the 60 minutes story link holds water but you are your own judge. |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Steve Shaw Date: 09 Sep 21 - 04:28 AM Powerful stuff there. I'm not a fan of forcing anyone to have jabs for this or for flu. We've allowed anti-vaxxers and other assorted nutters to throw us behind the curve. We need a massive campaign of public education about this disease with full information and persuasion to the fore. Billboards, radio, telly, ads online...Videos like this one are great - but shove them in front of people, don't hide them on YouTube. I do find it puzzling that there has been a lot of compulsion behind mask-wearing (questionable at best and quite possibly useless) but not behind vaccination (THE only way out of this). But education and persuasion, never compulsion. Compulsion engenders revolt and goes against the grain of democracy. Thin end of the wedge...? |

Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Jeri Date: 08 Sep 21 - 01:40 PM Steve, while I'm pretty sure you already hate me, I'll share this anyway. I once complained to an acquaintance that a person kept saying things on Mudcat that were stupid, and annoying, and I felt like I had to do something about that. He told me "Don't play with trolls". I said, "But he's so wrong and what he says shouldn't be allowed to stand unchallenged." He said "Don't play with trolls." While people may not BE trolls, when they provoke an emotional response in you, the messages are trolling. Don't play. And me, I'll shut up and f*ck off in accordance with imagined reaction to this. Please carry on. (My "troll" was Martin Gibson, if anyone remembers.) |

Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Donuel Date: 08 Sep 21 - 07:54 AM Yes a UK doctor lied about the vaccine autism threat and it spread like wild fire. How do crazy ideas develop? Sometimes a grain of truth like this could be read by a screen writer and base a comedy series BRAIN DEAD https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4877736/ about a parasite causing the brains of consevatives to go insane, to one day 2 years later turning into the magic parasite killing Ivermectin to be a cure for Covid. I am kidding about this series of events but all it takes is one little lie to capture millions. |
Subject: RE: BS: New news on the pandemic COVID-19 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 07 Sep 21 - 05:50 PM Years ago a flawed paper was written by someone who fabricated the data that had to do with childhood vaccinations that might have mercury and autism. It was rubbish, it was withdrawn, the authors censured, but it continues to live a life of its own in the hands of anti-vaxxers. It turns out there was a similar paper to do with Ivermectin that was withdrawn for data and ethical problems, but that continues to be the source of a lot of the misinformation about Ivermectin and COVID-19. Huge study supporting ivermectin as Covid treatment withdrawn over ethical concerns The preprint endorsing ivermectin as a coronavirus therapy has been widely cited, but independent researchers find glaring discrepancies in the data An excerpt from the Guardian article: The study found that patients with Covid-19 treated in hospital who “received ivermectin early reported substantial recovery” and that there was “a substantial improvement and reduction in mortality rate in ivermectin treated groups” by 90%. “The main error is that at least 79 of the patient records are obvious clones of other records,” Brown told the Guardian. “It’s certainly the hardest to explain away as innocent error, especially since the clones aren’t even pure copies. There are signs that they have tried to change one or two fields to make them look more natural.” People who don't do a close reading on papers like this end up spreading the wrong information. And a lot of people apparently didn't read very carefully. This article was published July 15, 2021 in The Guardian |

The dramatic intervention came hours after Brazil's health authorities had said four England-based players for Argentina had to quarantine." Brazil v Argentina abandoned after visiting players accused of Covid violation ++ Vaccine passports in nightclubs and other indoor venues in England will be required at the end of this month, the vaccines minister has confirmed. Nadhim Zahawi said it was the right time to start the scheme for sites with large crowds as all over-18s will have been offered two jabs by then.
