A song ran through my mind this morning. I can't remember the exact name of the song. And I can't find the CD that I heard it on. I have searched extensively on the Interwebs, and...nothing.

The CD was for a benefit for the Chesapeake Bay. It was sold at a music festival somewhere in the 90s somewhere (I think) in St Mary's County. I think the insert was tan/yellow. It includes songs like "Chesapeake Morning" by Schooner Fare; "Chesapeake Born/Chesapeake Free"

The lyrics I recall are:

"From the Pocomoke to the Nanticoke, the Choptank, and the Chester,
Down the Susquehana, the Severn and the James,
(something, something)...her spreading waters,
Pray for the Chesapeake Bay, for our sons and daughters."

Other'n that, I just have fragments of the lyrics. I would be glad to find the song to listen to; gladder to find where I can buy the CD.

Thanks!

Saul

"... the Travelers performed a song called "Chesapeake." Written by Mr. Renfro, its lively chorus had the governor tapping his toes.

From the Pocomoke to the Nanticoke

The Choptank and the Chester

Down the Susquehanna

The Severn and the James

Potomac and Patuxent

Into the spreading waters

Pray there's a Chesapeake Bay

For our sons and daughters

In fact, the governor was so inspired, says his staff, that he suggested an album of bay-related songs be produced to generate income for cleanup projects. Thus was born "Bay Folk," a collection of songs with a bay theme, including the Travelers' own "Chesapeake."

Another of Mr. Renfro's songs, "Let the Last Image Fall," about the disappearance of buffalo herds on the great plains, won him a coveted songwriting award at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, one of the country's premier folk events. In fact, both Mr. Renfro and Mr. Bailey were invited to Kerrville to give special performances..."

Andy Cohen and Joe LaRose have a song on their 1981 album Tuxedo Blues called "Sailing Down The Chesapeake Bay." I'm not at home at the moment but can get you the lyrics to that song if you're interested

This isn't the one but it's an old favorite of mine from the Red Clay Ramblers, complete with some hot cornet. Reminds of sailing my little skiff on the bay.

Yes, the one I am looking for is "Bay Folk"

If anyone knows where I can find a copy, I would be YUGELY grateful! I have looked high and low, and low and high again.

Thanks!

Saul

ps. Thanks for the other suggestions. Those all sound nice, too, and I may pick up some of them, too.

"Bay Folk is a great album, with bay tunes by Tom Paxton, Mary
Chapin Carpenter, Boarding Party, Crab Alley, Schooner Fare, Pete
Kennedy, Dramtreeo, Magpie and a few others I can't remember right
now. I think it's being re-released in 97, perhaps with a reunion
concert in Baltimore."

Found that online. Good luck.

Thanks for all the comments. I am going to follow up with the various leads. AND...

I FOUND IT!! Sometimes finding stuff takes a minute. Sometimes it takes...well, time. But it was right in one of the places I thought it was, but I overlooked it the first three times I looked! Life is good!
