Subject: BS: Entebbe From: Bonzo3legs Date: 07 Jan 21 - 03:59 PM We are watching the 1977 version of the Raid on Entebbe to free the Israeli hostages. The recent version made in 2018 was ruined by hideous dance sequences. However I am just wondering who gets the prize for the biggest shit - that fat sloath amin or each of the terrorists. |

Subject: RE: BS: Entebbe From: punkfolkrocker Date: 07 Jan 21 - 05:46 PM Gotta admit I was looking forward to Entebbe, until I heard about the arty farty dance scenes.. I'll need to be in the right more tolerant frame of mind if I watch it.. But at least I'm forewarned... It must have well pissed off audiences expecting a traditional political war movie...??? |

Subject: RE: BS: Entebbe From: robomatic Date: 07 Jan 21 - 07:36 PM Amazing how that word "Entebbe" immediately brings attention and stimulates memory. I haven't seen the most recent movie. Thanks for the forewarning. I remember the original events from the time. I was a student living in an International House and among our far origins were an Egyptian girl, her Israeli boyfriend, and a grad student fresh from Palestine. We were all out watching Bicentennial fireworks and discussing whether the Israelis were preparing to give up the imprisoned terrorists that were being demanded or were playing for time. We all thought they were playing for time. And indeed that was the day of the Israeli rescue operation. And the Isreli commando leader who died was the big brother of the guy now running Israel. |

Subject: RE: BS: Entebbe From: Stilly River Sage Date: 07 Jan 21 - 10:59 PM Yes. "Entebbe" is an eye catcher, if you're of a certain age. I haven't seen either film, but I read the stories in the newspaper at the time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Entebbe (film) From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Jan 21 - 11:35 AM I read lots of Ryder-Haggard when in my youth so when the opportunity came to buy his complete works on Kindle for 49p, I jumped at it. Very un-pc as you may expect with lots of what is now considered racist. It was of course a different era and, as it happens, Ryder-Haggard himself was far from racist. Anyway, back to the point. The depictions of some of the African tribal chiefs with seemingly ultimate power were personified, in my mind, by Amin. I suspect he modelled himself of Dingaan or Cetewayo. Probably wrong and nowt to do with Entebbe but what the heck :-) |
