Subject: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: catspaw49 Date: 11 Jan 00 - 01:16 PM If you haven't read Mick's posting on his birthday thread, please do. Thanks for the idea annap. AND, if you are offended by this type of thread, Please...don't post. To Mick's New Friend: I want you to know that there are multitudes of people in this world who stand firmly with you and take courage from your own. For all of us who live life's battles and refuse to lose, I send you my best thoughts and wishes that you will soon reap the benefits of your labors. Wanting the best is one thing, but to have the courage of your convictions and be willing to weather the storm is something entirely different. Its not just something to be admired, it is a lesson that needs to be taught by example and I'm sure your family will gain both a better life and a respect for what living in this world truly means. To simplify an old text-----No matter what the cicumstance, the good deeds a person does before, protects them.......And yours will protect you. Spaw (Pat Patterson)

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jan 00 - 03:14 PM Dear "Union Maid", As a young, single mother I had the good fortune to work in a hospital which was union. Be proud of yourself for the stand you are taking, for it will be worth it, not just for the immediate benefits, but also in the setting of an example, as Spaw mentioned, for your family and others. There are many people who care, they just don't get much press.:-) Please know that I will be thinking of you and sending you good thoughts and energy, plus all good wishes for a succesful outcome. Sisters and Brothers in solidarity! All the Best, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: Little Neophyte Date: 11 Jan 00 - 03:40 PM I just saw the current film Sunshine. There was a line in the film that has stayed with me. "It is one thing to see the truth, but it takes great courage to be seen in it." Union Maid you are a true inspiration. Pat is right about good deeds. They hold a powerful protection that will guide you safely through this difficult time. My thoughts are with you, Bonnie |

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: Allan C. Date: 11 Jan 00 - 04:04 PM I would like to add my own admiration to the pile here. When I read Mick's post which described the stand you are making, the tears flowed freely. They were surely tears of joy to see that courage such as yours is still alive and well. It is a privilege to know you - even in this slight way. Allan |

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Jan 00 - 06:04 PM Stick with the union, they may not appear to be much use in day to day stuff, but when your back is against the wall (as mine is - Industrial Tribunal on Thursday and Friday against unfair dismissal because of sickness and only work part-time)they are there for you. As the Strawbs said - 'You can't get me, I'm part of the Union'. And if you need more, go to the Tolpuddle Man thread I created last Oct/Nov - The beginnings of the Trade Union movement, and thus, all labour (small l) Unions are here, from my home county, 6 men started something that protects and provides for billions across the globe. Strength in Unity. LTS |

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: Dani Date: 12 Jan 00 - 08:19 AM Not sure if I did this right. But when I was thinking about what Mick said, and the courage it requires to see farther down the path, this song kept coming to me. Maybe someone (Joe?) can make the reference below a clicky thing. If not, just know that i'm singing it for you today. Also, I'm honored to be included in a choir singing for an interdenominational MLK celebration next Monday night. Among our music is "We Shall Overcome". That, also, will be sung with you and your family in my heart. Mayhap it is fodder for another thread, but the ancestor of this song is "I Shall Overcome". There can never be a 'WE" until there are enough people willing to say "I". Thank you for your courage. Dani

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: katlaughing Date: 12 Jan 00 - 08:46 AM Ah, Dani, one of my very favourites. Will you be able to record your choir and send it in to Mudcat Radio? Here's a blue clicky thingie. Another thread with the information you mentioned would be quite interesting, unless there's already been one. With Max's super-duper new search it should be easy to find out. Go for it! Thanks, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: 'Best Thoughts' ...for a Union Maid From: Big Mick Date: 15 Jan 00 - 10:19 PM Thanks to each of you for posting. And to my dear, and treasured 'Spaw, thanks for starting it. I will see our young Union Maid this weekend, and I am sure she will be very surprised. They always are, you know. They never see themselves as I see them. It is often said that we need heroes, that they aren't around anymore. That is so much bull, spread by people that cannot see the forest for the trees. I see heroes like this every day. I have described some of them for you, in the Why We Sing thread, and others. This courageous young lady is just the latest of the many I see. They are out there, people of honor and conviction. We need only look to see them. And teach our children about them. I have said it before. I love you folks. It is that simple. |
