Not sure if this should be up in the Music section, but here goes. (puts on tin hat) :-
I've just read in the paper that a 'streaming service' calling themselves Deezer in conjunction with some charity called Gendered Intelligence have commissioned the re-wording of several old and much-loved songs from the seventies and eighties.
Examples of the new titles:-

Woke Me Up Before You Go-Go
Let It Snowflake
Lord Madonna
Safe Space Oddity
Simply The Equal Best
My Genderation
Medium-Sized Bottomed Girls
They (Charles Aznavour)
Honky Tonk People
They began with the song by The Weather Girls 'It's Raining Men', using more 'inclusive' pronouns. Now it's raining 'them' apparently.
I'm having trouble getting my head round this. What the bloomin' blazes??
I don't agree with changing lyrics of old songs. In the world there are women and men as well as all the LGBTG folk. Why do we take the back seat nowadays? Ladies toilets are now open to anyone, even a physical man.
We're being suppressed aren't we?

Full story here:

Deezer

"The huge 80s hit ‘It’s Raining Men’ gets a modern day makeover to become ‘It’s Raining Them’, performed by trans artist and activist Mila Jam

The all-inclusive anthem and music video feature gender-neutral lyrics in support of trans and non-binary people

Available exclusively on Deezer, 100% of the streaming service’s revenue from the track will be donated to the charity Gendered Intelligence

As fads go this too will pass, along with more dangerous cancel culture oppression. Some turns of a phrase are clever but are a flash in the pan. Woke is just a temporary response to extremeism imo.

Sen you've explained why local news was playing Its raining men' as fade out music today. They didn't actually do a story about this.

I think I should have written LGBTG, not LGBGT (I got muddled up)
Please don't get me wrong, I have no problems with people being different and having their own preferences and self-identities etc.
My lesbian neighbour and her girlfriend are the most delightful and kind people I've ever met. We have a lot of giggles and I support their Sheep Sanctuary with a bit of financial help. I'm secretly hoping they might get engaged soon. One showed my husband a poor old cockerel she is looking after, and said, "My cock is bigger than yours Ib!" hee hee
Similarly, I agree that Black Lives Matter (including my (very!) black husband's. But so do all lives.
What I get cross about is the tendency among strident groups of them to impinge on the rest of us and change our world to suit them. They can create their own songs, not massacre ours!

While not common, it has not been unusual for people to change lyrics to suit. Change of pronouns etc., depending on the sex of the singer.

Good point, RD. Though it’s something I try not to do - for instance, when I sing Richard Shindell’s ‘Reunion Hill’ I always sing the “Dowsing for my husband’s face” line exactly as written, because I feel it’s respectful to the spirit of the song. Of course, now that same-sex marriage is legal and accepted as ‘normal’, i guess it no longer sounds odd to hear a man sing about his husband.

I am not familiar with the specific articles and songs raised in the OP. I may try to give 'em a listen. Without knowing the motivation that is implicit or revealed by the originator of the songs and lyrics, it can range from Allan Sherman style 'clever' 'humorous' to 'socially responsible'. And the appropriateness and aptness of the lyrics will weigh on of themselves.

Let us remember that the American popular song "Yankee Doodle" was an adaptation of very clever lyrics written by an English attempt to make fun of New England Americans, itself a very funny song and fun to sing, but almost unknown among the Americans of today.
