Subject: RE: BS: Johnny Depp lawsuit 2022 From: Helen Date: 10 Jul 22 - 05:12 PM I'm really surprised that Amber Heard has decided to appeal the decision because the only people who will win are her lawyers, whatever the court's final decision will be. |
Subject: RE: BS: Johnny Depp lawsuit 2022 From: keberoxu Date: 10 Jul 22 - 05:04 PM The insurance company which insured Amber Heard recently is now suing her, as it does not want to pay what she owes to her ex-husband . . . |

Latest rumo[u]rs on negotiation: Amber Heard owes Johnny Depp $8 million, she wants to appeal. The negotiation says: if she agrees not to appeal, then she won't have to pay the $8 million. This came out on Wednesday on Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos. |

Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Donuel Date: 07 Jun 22 - 12:19 PM I recall the champagne was a rose'. Undoubtedly the alcohol cost had to have exceeded the food. Of course local TV reporters don't have a high bar of fact checking. I had two hot dogs with onions and a coke at home for $2.79. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Manitas_at_home Date: 07 Jun 22 - 12:11 PM It rather depends on what wine and champagne was being served. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: leeneia Date: 07 Jun 22 - 10:53 AM Hard to believe, Donuel. Even if each person ordered $50 worth of food and drink, he would have to fit 750 friends in the place. That's allowing for a generous tip and high tax. |

Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: keberoxu Date: 06 Jun 22 - 06:41 PM Well, there is more than one point of view regarding the lady. Here's mine: the stigmatization of mental illness. Personal to me, as I am entering my third year of long-term residential psychiatric treatment for persistent depressive disorder. It's changing my financial status in a major way. And worth every darned cent. If Amber Heard does indeed have a bona-fide diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, or something else, or what have you, stigmatizing her for it does nothing constructive in the long run, it's cheap and cruel and has consequences. So, for heaven's sake, if she needs help, professional help, then she ought to have a right to get her mental health needs met, and everybody else ought to let her go ahead and do it without using her for target practice. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Helen Date: 06 Jun 22 - 04:55 PM Or we could talk about the social and health issue of domestic violence. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 06 Jun 22 - 04:50 PM So we don't talk about Amber...Maybe we should... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Helen Date: 06 Jun 22 - 04:01 PM I think he was good in Benny & Joon, and in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Dave the Gnome Date: 06 Jun 22 - 01:57 PM I liked that he modelled Jack Sparrow on Keith Richards and then got Richards to play Sparrow's father. I like that he is currently playing on stage with Jeff Beck too. He was good in Chocolat but I am not sure if he was supposed to be Django Reinhardt or not. I did watch Chocolat because the Dungeons and Dragons film I went to see had just finished though :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Thompson Date: 06 Jun 22 - 05:52 AM I'd align this court case with things like the Roe vs Wade decision in the US recently. |

Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Jun 22 - 05:57 PM If we're talking films now, I'd put Paddington 2 above any of those mentioned so far. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 04 Jun 22 - 04:22 PM Shane is definitely up my alley. Rainy Night in Soho...Summer in Siam...Pair of Brown Eyes...Fairytale... It seems that Amber has come out of this badly, seemingly undeservedly...but I came to that possibly faulty conclusion after taking a brief and passing interest only... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: keberoxu Date: 03 Jun 22 - 12:08 AM Is Shane McGowan up your alley, Steve? Because, had you seen the documentary "Crock of Gold," (I haven't, myself) you would have seen extensive footage of a conversation between Shane McGowan and Johnny Depp. They have been fast friends for a number of years. Before McGowan reunited with the Pogues, when he was recording solo or with the Popes, he did a song titled "Victoria" and there was a video for the song. Featuring Johnny Depp, dancing with Victoria Mary Clarke, who is now McGowan's lawfully wedded wife. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jun 22 - 09:09 PM Because I don't watch films much, I wouldn't know Johnny Depp from a bull's foot. If I was halfway through a film and someone said to me, Hey! That's Johnny Depp! I'd keep watching. We all have our flaws, after all, and his might well be not as bad as mine for all I know... On the other hand, I won't allow myself to experience a Richard Wagner opera, because I know in advance that his horrid flaw is something I can't live with (in other words, he crosses my subjective red line). As it happens, Johnny Depp films don't seem to be up my alley anyway... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jeri Date: 02 Jun 22 - 08:28 PM I put that badly. Of COURSE you understand. You were just moving on. Which I should do. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jeri Date: 02 Jun 22 - 08:08 PM Sorry, Steve. I figured all the other lines you wrote came from that movie, you'd understand. Of course, the reply begins "First, the dinosaurs came...". The lines are mostly "classics" so people know them, the same way they know "I don't give a damn". Collective consciousness. I've never actually watched "Gone With the Wind" all the way through. Depp's done a huge number of movies, and has received good reviews in most of them. I enjoy his acting, but the personal stuff is, IMO, better left being personal. Seems like people need to divide up and take sides, even though they really don't know anything . Story of almost everything these days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jun 22 - 07:54 PM I have to make the case, Jeri. I could give another dozen quotes. The spoiler is that I watch hardly any films, ever... I think I might have watched Gone with the Wind decades ago. I can remember "I don't GIVE a damn." But that's it... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jeri Date: 02 Jun 22 - 07:39 PM Steve, what happened? (Straight line from THAT movie.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jun 22 - 05:31 PM Surely you can't be serious... I am serious, and don't call me Shirley... We've gotta get these people to a hospital... What is it? It's a big building with patients, but that isn't important right now... Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue... Boy trapped in refrigerator eats own foot... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Jun 22 - 04:59 PM Nah Steve, American ‘humor’ (as the colonials insist on mis-spelling it) leaves me absolutely cold. Never saw or heard anything remotely funny coming out of the US. ‘Gone With The Wind’ takes it for me, but I wouldn’t try to deny you your own personal preference… |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jun 22 - 04:52 PM Excuse me, John. The greatest movie ever made, clearly, was Airplane! |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Jun 22 - 03:07 PM I note that in the website of CNN the trial outcome was put under "entertainment". |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: meself Date: 02 Jun 22 - 02:45 PM Trouble is ... things like this become news because they are "news" - i.e., once they receive a certain level of attention, that in itself makes them "news", whether they have any other import or not - and so then they receive more attention, which reinforces their "newsworthiness" ... etc. .... And, tbh, if you're watching news at least in part to be kept aware of what the issues and events are that the world is talking about, well, sadly, this is one of them ..... Btw, I heard in passing, on the news, that Heard had won some claim against Depp in a UK court - surprised it wasn't front-page news! |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Backwoodsman Date: 02 Jun 22 - 01:34 PM I echo Rhett Butler’s final words to Scarlett O’Hara in the greatest movie ever made. Now those two could act. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: G-Force Date: 02 Jun 22 - 11:14 AM Here in the UK we're waiting with mounting excitement (not!) for the outcome of Vardy v. Rooney. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Jun 22 - 10:59 AM My complaint for years, when watching televison news, in particular the local feed, is that they would start with sport. Not. News. I listen to public radio most of the time now and don't encounter that nonsense, sports or celebrity chatter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: robomatic Date: 02 Jun 22 - 10:43 AM I enjoyed Depp's performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape". Our news has the similar problem of airing celebrity nonsense instead of real news, and CBS earned my ire last week when in the midst of school shootings and war in Ukraine they had a significant segment where a female star opined about how motherhood had changed her life. Worse than the BBC IMO. For the most part, the agonizing Depp/ Heard trial has been aired on Court TV, where it belongs. There are real issues involved, and it can get pretty 'down the rabbit hole' since it shows off the differences between UK law and US law regarding proving and deciding on defamation. I don't know how a jury decides between the countering testimony of two actors and competent representation. I couldn't imagine it as anything other than excruciating. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Rapparee Date: 01 Jun 22 - 09:39 PM If I gave a rat's rectum I'd say something. I don't, so I shan't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jun 22 - 08:53 PM I remember a friend talking about a couple we both knew, and saying so long as they stayed together, that was two other people saved from a disastrous partnership. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Jun 22 - 08:22 PM He was pretty good in Chocolat, but that was a minor role. Edward Scissorhands was pretty good, but it has been years since I saw it so don't ask me about the plot. It sounds like they deserved each other. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:58 PM Well I'm so glad that some of you are so knowledgable about this. I'm equally glad that I'm completely ignorant about it. If it's truly about domestic violence, then I'd like to suggest that we should really see that through the lens of the hundreds, thousands, millions of abused women whose stories are so "boring" that they never make the ten o'clock news. Not through the lens of a pair of brats whose publicity-seeking will only increase their public profiles, to their undoubted future benefit... |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:49 PM I'd have thought the right thing would have been either reject both claims, or accept both claims with a dollar damages each way. Judge Judy would have thrown both of the cases out. And probably both of the performers. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Donuel Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:41 PM thats funny. I'll be a friend of the court. |
