Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jeri Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:31 PM Oh, I get it now. The jury found they both defamed each other, with Depp winning more money than Heard. I'm guessing because he lost more money than she did (but I don't know). I figure most people wish they could sue them, or the media, for shoving other people's personal issues in our faces. Maybe a class action suit or something. (snark) |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Donuel Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:29 PM Helen, the jury didn't buy her claims or evidence. Defamation is a normal reaction to baseless claims. She is either a bad goldbricker or a secretly abused woman with no evidence or witnesses. The trial sort of defames them both. He gets 15 million from her and she gets 2 million from him? |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jeri Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:24 PM What do you think she'll appeal? |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: keberoxu Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:16 PM This is an actor who has ended up believing in his own publicity. He goes around referring to himself as, amongst other things, Captain Jack Sparrow. That series of films -- Pirates of the Caribbean -- is what sent his career into a totally different orbit. The first of the films was witty, and if I recall right, for that one film Depp got a Best (Supporting??) Actor nomination at the Oscars. Once Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom dropped that series, I stopped watching the sequels, Geoffrey Rush or no Geoffrey Rush. Before Depp's career blasted off into outer space, he had a wife and children and was a tolerably happy man. Then she divorced him I think, quietly and sadly. No doubt, Ms. Heard will appeal. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Helen Date: 01 Jun 22 - 07:10 PM It's about domestic violence - USA Department of Justice It's a vital (literally: it affects people's lives) issue for many people, mostly women, but sometimes men. Yes this is a defamation case. No, she never reported to police or authorities any alleged domestic violence during her marriage. No she doesn't have any concrete evidence that the domestic violence was inflicted on her. After the fact she decided to talk about her allegations in a newspaper. It may or may not have happened as she alleged. She may have perpetrated some of the violence or bad behaviour on him. Who knows the truth? Neither of them reported the alleged incidents at the time. It doesn't take away from the vital importance of taking domestic violence and bullying and coercive control seriously. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Donuel Date: 01 Jun 22 - 06:49 PM She said ack, he said whoa, the jury said split decision and the fans went wild for Johnny who is normally drunk in and out of character. I have a one of a kind memorobilia from his first film. |
Subject: RE: BS: Depp From: Jon Freeman Date: 01 Jun 22 - 06:13 PM As far as I'm concerned, it's celebrity gossip and shouldn't be close to the number one spot. I have seen one film starring Johnny Depp. That was Sleepy Hollow. I quite enjoyed that one. |
Subject: BS: Depp From: Steve Shaw Date: 01 Jun 22 - 05:57 PM I've never seen his films, I don't know who he is, I know even less about the woman involved, and I have no desire to increase my knowledge. I'm appalled at the BBC for making his court case the number one item on tonight's news. They seem to me to be a pair of useless celebrity shits. Do correct me if I'm wrong. There's a terrible war in Ukraine, there are dreadful human rights abuses going on in China, there is an horrendous cost of living crisis in my own country. Yet someone has decided that the most urgent and vital thing we should hear about is a spat between two spoiled brats who have so much money that they have decided to make lawyers rich by airing their filthy linen in public. I mean, gimme strength... |
