Can someone send me a Hearme link. Everyone I've tried hasn't worked so far. Even the Hearme.com site won't load.

Don

Hi, Don, I've only been in there once, but Max's link is http://www.mudcat.org/@popup_simple.html or, click here.

That is the same link I found in the thread, which is current, "Online jamming with hearme!!!" There's a lot of info in there that might help you figure out why it isn't working for you, too. Hope I am not being redundant here. Didn't know if you saw that one or not. Hope it helps.

Hi Don:

There are two types of Hearme connections. The first is a simplified version that is installed on a users website. It is what we have been using at Mudcat since Max installed it on the "Online jamming with hearme!!!" thread. It is also what is provided in the Hearme for ICQ addin (see the Online jamming thread) which Momnopp found.

The other is a more full featured version that requires you to go to the Hearme.com website and register, then download additional software. You can then go and create voice chat "rooms" in a number of Lobbies at their web site. The music is found in the "On stage" lobby. The full version allows you to lock your mic to on (toggle), and also has a white board, and some other features. You can also have a camera and be "live" while you are singing or talking in some of the lobbies. Another list I am on uses this version for online interactive banjo lessons.

I loaded the Hearme for ICQ today and tried it out with Momnopp. It worked pretty good, but seemed to be a little slower than the Mudcat direct link.

JAB

Oh! and as far as I know you must have an Windows 95 or greater PC and Internet 4.1 or greater to get Hearme to work. This is even if you are using Netscape as your main browser as I do.

Thanks Kat/JAB

I got Hearme.com to load off the hearme site but the Mudcat link wouldn't do anything. I could get the window but the acceptance window wouldn't scroll, minimize, cancel or anything. Everything would blink but thats it. Anyway, now that I have it, how do I use it and with whom where?

I still haven't figured this thing out. I'm gonna dump the whole thing and reload. For what is suppose to be a simple sysrem, there a lot of complicated hoops to jump through.

I'm not sure what link you used Don but the link kat gave is wrong. It should be http://www.mudcat.org/@/popup_simple.html although I don't think that answers your problem.

The trouble with having the 2 hearme's is that we need to agree which one to use. I find that the one at hereme.com takes ages to get going and on the couple of occasions that I have tried it, my computer has locked up on exiting hearme so I prefer the mudcat one..

JAB has mentioned some of the limitations with the simple version. I have written a small progam that overcomes the need to keep the button pressed on the simple vesrsion which will run on Windows 95 or higher. It is basiclly quite simple. When the "lock" is on, it checks all the mouse messages sent within the system and doesn't allow the mouse up one to be sent to ANY button marked "Talk" so hearme thinks that the mouse is still being held even after it is released. Pressing the F9 key works as normal.

Here is whats up.

1. I log into AOL and click on Mudcat from favorite places.

2. I go to the hearme jam thread and i open the "try it" clicky thing.

3. I get a window that once open says I'm not connected till i accept the terms of usage open here.

4. I get another window that say "Accept" or "don't Accept'.

5. When I click accept, nothing happens.

repeat this same scenario when I use the clicky that Jon sent me. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing is working on this end Jon, neither clicky thing is working, the one from you or from Kat.

Don,I thought that should start the download for the plug in (can't remember exactly what happened when I first used hearme)an I can't see what you are doing wrong.

Just one thought, what browser are you using? I don't know what happens if you don't have Internet Explorer 4.1 or higher on your system.

The only other thing I can suggest it that you go to hearme.com and see if they have a technical support section that might me able to help you.

Don, just had a look at the FAQ's - can't find anything that seems to answer your problem. There is a support page their though.

Max, if you read this, I don't know what your long term plans for hearme on Mudcat are but I have just been looking through the Voice Presence documantation and there is a chat limit time parameter that can be supplied. Is there any chance of you setting it to something realistic for singing a folk song? I don't think any of us want to hog the mike but it is infuriating having to have to "talk" again after a couple of verses. I couldn't find any mention of a way to lock the button for those that want to play a musical instrument but my progaram seems to solve that quite effectively.

Overall, I like hearme for the singing but prefer ICQ and text for normal chat. Having said that, I think hearme is a useful program which allows us to exchange songs (plus a little chat) and I think the sound is pretty good most of the time. My biggest complaint is that currently, they only support PC's running Windows 95 or higher. It would be nice to find something less exclusive.

Jon
