Subject: Looking For Specific Mingulay Boat Song From: GUEST,OliviaK Date: 22 Apr 25 - 03:03 AM Hi, this is my first time posting here, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes in this request. I found this wonderful version of Mingulay Boat Song a couple of years ago on youtube, but it has since disappeared. I am desperate to find it; it was the best version I've ever heard, but I don't remember the name of the group that made it. I do remember it was from a group of sailors from some Port, and I am almost 100% certain it wasn't Port Isaac's Fishermen Friends. I remember some of the album cover, although my memory is a little fuzzy. It had about 20+ men in black sailor outfits, I think, all looking to the right. I believe the background was yellow (could very well be wrong), and the frame around the cover was either red or blue. The group put out at least 8 albums, I just remember there was a lot there. Please, I know this is vague, but if you have any information whatsoever, I would greatly appreciate it. -Olivia K |

Subject: RE: Looking For Specific Mingulay Boat Song From: Helen Date: 22 Apr 25 - 04:10 AM Hi Olivia, welcome to Mudcat! My first suggestion is to try searching for videos of the Mingulay Boat Song, because the search will show images of the performers. I do an internet search on the song title, click Search, and then click the Video link under the search box. Some examples: The Sheringham Shantymen AU Sign in Shanty Chor Bochum Mingulay Boat Song The Mingulay Boat song |

Subject: RE: Looking For Specific Mingulay Boat Song From: GUEST,Phil d'Conch Date: 22 Apr 25 - 06:34 AM Twenty member shanty choirs with an 8+ album discography would be a pretty narrow selection I should think. Couldn't find their old original 1990s album cut or cover art anywhere online but there was this: Meet The Sheringham Shantymen |

Subject: RE: Looking For Specific Mingulay Boat Song From: Helen Date: 22 Apr 25 - 12:01 PM Phil, The Sheringham Shantymen was just one example of an image and video of a group of men singing the song. It might not be the correct group. I just posted the three links to videos as examples of images and performances mainly as a method of searching for the correct group. |

Still looking. Pretty narrow field of contenders with that size of chorus and a discography though. Like one (1)... so far. |

Subject: RE: Looking For Specific Mingulay Boat Song From: Helen Date: 22 Apr 25 - 04:04 PM Oh, sorry. I misread what you wrote. I have no ideas on who the performers might be so I'm just trying to think of ways to narrow the search. |
