Subject: Emergency : traditional barman From: GUEST,Remi from Paris Date: 31 Jan 00 - 11:03 AM The Quiet Man in Paris is looking for a barman, like right now ! Conditions : 20 hours a week he or she : Must speak English (some French is also welcome), Must know about Irish traditional music (and like it too, as nothing else is played there except Breton and Quebecois trad.) Former experiences in pubs welcome contact : Eoghan Lucey The Quiet Man 5 rue des Haudriettes 75003 Paris tel (from 05PM to 02AM) 33 (0)1 48 04 02 77 No problem if you play any non-amplified instrument except : warpipes in the cellar bar, Notre-Dame great organ or anything bigger than a big French accordion piano my guitar or the boss' bouzouki. So, if you are a decent honorable person planning to stay in Paris for a while, if you can cope with a bunch of lazy-good-for-nothing-trad-music-playing-layabouts and pour a decent pint of Murphy's, do contact Eoghan. (tell him you found the add here so I can get a pint on the house). Slainte |

Subject: RE: Emergency : traditional barman From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Jan 00 - 08:33 PM There was this Englishman went on holiday to Ireland, staying in a bed and breakfast. He asked the man he was staying with to tell him a place to get a drink. "There's this pub over there - you should love it."
So he goes in, and copmes back not at all happy. "I went in there - it was a miserrable placwe with a big jukev=box pthat wouldn't work, stale sandwiches, and the beer was off. And the barman was a grumpy old devil who complainwed when I askwed for change for a fiver. Why did you ever say I'd like it?"
"Well that's strange - I was told it was an English Theme Pub."
Ickle Dorritt, you've been going to too many English theme Pubs. |

Subject: RE: Emergency : traditional barman From: GUEST,Remi from Paris Date: 31 Jan 00 - 08:54 PM This job starts : well, you have to discuss that with Eoghàn, but I think Emma is tired to work seven days a week. The visa : if you are Irish or citizen of any European Union country there is no problem. If you are a West Paddy, get an Irish passport if you can. About sexism : I think barmaids are gaining too much power in pubs nowadays. I mean, Emma asked me to pack my guitar more than ten minutes before closing time. If women are empowered enough to stop sessions, where is the world going ? |

Subject: RE: Emergency : traditional barman From: reggie miles Date: 31 Jan 00 - 09:38 PM Remi, I have a friend in France, Paris I think, so I posted her the info. She and I play music together when she's here in the states, (Pacific Northwest). She plays a number of instruments and has a wide range of musical interest. I usually hire her to play upright bass with me. She's speaks French and of course English and is a good friend. If she gets the job I hope you'll tell her hello from me. Her name is Jess. |

Subject: RE: Emergency : traditional barman From: GUEST,Remi from Paris Date: 01 Feb 00 - 01:44 PM Thanks a million, Reggie. I hope she can survive with the miserable wages a bar in Paris has to offer (I don't know what they are, in point of fact, as the information is not disclosed to regulars, even the best ones, but the maid behind the bar seems to have lost weight these last few weeks). Thanks again, Rémi |

Subject: RE: Emergency : traditional barman From: reggie miles Date: 01 Feb 00 - 06:54 PM Remi, just got a note back from my friend. Sorry but she's in the south of France, about ten hours from Paris. I guess the commute of twenty hours round trip was too much for her to commit to. |
