Subject: RE: Origin: The Bluenose From: GUEST,AndersM Date: 15 May 14 - 02:14 AM Retrofanthom, I believe the song you're thinking of is the bluenose by Kate and Anna McGarrigle. It appears about 4 min into the documentary Helicopter Canada. As far as I can tell, the song was written for the documentary. I can't seem to find any recorded versions online, but the film is available on the national film board website and canadian Netflix. |
Subject: RE: Origin: The Bluenose From: GUEST,mgwuk Date: 29 Jun 15 - 09:34 AM I do not know if they ever recorded this song, but the spinners certainly sang it on there telivision show in the 70s. their chorus line where definately Bluenose, LEANING in the wind Racing every WAVE on the sea. I know this because I recorded the programe and spent a lot of time copying out the words. |

Subject: RE: Origin: The Bluenose From: SuperDave Date: 26 Oct 18 - 10:15 AM The Bluenose song from Helicopter Canada - This is credited as being written by Kate McGarrigle and was performed by the Mountain City Four (which included both Kate and Anna) for the soundtrack. Lyrics & chords (ChordPro format) as best I can figure them: [C]She's sailing [G]out of [C]Lunenburg [G]harbour A [C]legend [Am]and the [F]wind be[G]fore her [C]She won [Em]all the [Am]races of her day The [F]ghost we see is only time -- [G]away And it's [C]blow boys, blow my [G]bully boys, blow Captain Angus Walters met the Prince of Wales He rode the seas and fought the gales They sold his ship to carry freight The queen sailed off to meet her fate And it's blow boys, blow my bully boys, blow Now in the memory of other times She rides as the tail on the back of a dime She follows the wind and answers the call As seagulls cry - to the sea and all And it's blow boys, blow my bully boys, blow The song is about 4 minutes into Helicopter Canada, which can be seen at https://www.nfb.ca/film/helicopter_canada/ On a personal note, I saw the hull of the Bluenose II being laid down in the Smith & Rhuland boatyard in Lunenburg sometime during the 50s. S&R, one of the last of the major wooden boat building firms in the area, also did the Bounty replica for the Marlon Brando "Mutiny on the Bounty" |
