Subject: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:14 PM Newbies Be Alert!!! This Mudcat Cafe has resources you can never fully explore, and it will take longer if you don't start!!! Today's recommended site feature: Alan Of Oz's Mudcat Midi Page! Where you can hear all sorts of tunes! Where? Go to the Quick Links drop-down box to the right of the Mudcat/banjo site logo. Pull that sucker down, look for Alan of Oz, and go baby! enjoy!

Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Mar 00 - 11:20 PM Thinking of fully exploring, how long would it take to do that with the DT Database alone without all these extras like Alan's great pages? Jon |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: GUEST,Skipjack Date: 04 Mar 00 - 05:32 AM When does the dreadful albatross of Newbie fall from the shoulders? Skipjack (enjoying 4th big month) |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Bud Savoie Date: 04 Mar 00 - 09:24 AM Skipjack, you aren't even a newbie yet! You first must rid yourself of the GUEST stain by becoming a full-fledged member--as I have done it myself less than a week ago, I can tell you it is quick and painless. Be prepared for merciless harassment from the familiars. Then you will be in my class, and we can both learn the wondrous intricacies of Mirefelinism, without which arcane knowledge, we are condemned to Newbieism in perpetuity. |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Crowhugger Date: 04 Mar 00 - 10:44 AM What the heck is Mirefelinism? Oh, never mind, I get it. Eventually. As for that albatross, GUEST,Skipjack, just give give a good toss and away she'll fly. Your shoulders will thank you -- the albatross is one helluva big bird.I've found that if I just jump in and don't act like a newbie, I don't feel like one. The real turning point was learning to put in bold, underline, italics and links. There's a thread about that somewhere. CH |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 04 Mar 00 - 10:53 AM Jon, I dunno the answer to your question, but Jayne's Jig was the tune that prompted the commercial. H & I loved it and are hoping there is sheet music so we can learn it. |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Jon Freeman Date: 04 Mar 00 - 01:06 PM Thanks Praise, I'm glad you both liked it. I think it is the best one that I have manged to come up with. I don't seem to be having a good time with computers today but what I have done is printed and scanned my orginal Cakewalk version and put it at http://members.tripod.co.uk/jonbanjo/Jayne.gif and hopefully will work for you. This one contains a second tune called Stimpy which I wrote at the same time as Jayne's Jig but I then went on to try to arrange the one and poor old Stimpy got forgotten. Usless info: Jayne breeds buldogs and Stimpy was a disabled one that she kept and I tried to reflect Stimpy's walk in the tune. Stimpy remains the only dog I have ever slept with - 3 in a bed! Jon |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Alice Date: 04 Mar 00 - 09:17 PM On the midi pages, check out the tunes my son wrote Ryan Flynn's Tune The Grasshopper
He was age ten at the time. |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Mbo Date: 04 Mar 00 - 09:25 PM And don't forget to check out my tunes too! You'll like them if you're into spaz reels & jigs! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Jon Freeman Date: 05 Mar 00 - 12:17 AM It is nice to listen to what others have written and think I have played all the ones written my other Mudcatters and Alice, that is not bad going for a 10yr old!! It took me till I was 36 to write anything but there again, I don't read music and always used to forget any ideas I had. It was only when I got hold of an old version of CakeWalk that I was able to put anything down and even then only very rarely. Jon |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Mar 00 - 12:20 AM Jon, we will try to fetch that file, thank you!! We need music writing software here that'll work for a mainly-ear person such as myself (me). Any good threads you know of I should go see? |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Troll Date: 05 Mar 00 - 12:25 AM Jon,if Stimpy was the only dog you ever slept with you must have done your drinkin' in better class bars than I could ever afford. You didn't REALLY expect to get that one past, did you? troll *BSEG* |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Jon Freeman Date: 05 Mar 00 - 12:36 AM Praise, the subject of notation software crops up fairly regularly but I can't bring any one thread to mind. I noticed that John in Brisbane said that he was in the process of writing a notation guide for mudcatters in the how do you figure out a tune from a boo thread. I don't know if he will be covering notation software in that. Jon |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Troll Date: 05 Mar 00 - 12:53 AM Noteworthy is a pretty good program. Costs about $45 I think. troll |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: GUEST,The Beanster Date: 05 Mar 00 - 10:20 PM I confess, I am a brand new-newbie--today, in fact, I was born. Could drop the "Guest" from my name right now but feel I should pay my dues. But how long must I wear this albatross before I receive my props? ...hope I don't have to get hazed. |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 05 Mar 00 - 11:37 PM GUEST,The Beanster-- I have been here about a month and I don't recall seeing anyone get hazed, maybe wrestled around and tickled under the chin a bit, in a nice matey sorta way. In fact if you introduce your un-GUESTED self in the thread called Welcome New Members, you get a free poem of welcome! Go see it, it's a couple of days old now. Join!!! You get a personal page. If you don't like it, you can always unjoin!! The personal page keeps the addiction manageable. I think most of us feel we have paid our dues long before landing ion this glad shore, and that life lets you keep paying them as you go, too. Be a newbie, do!

Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: John in Brisbane Date: 05 Mar 00 - 11:48 PM Jon F is right. In fact I've finished writing the text, but I'm having the divil of a time with the GIF's. I have tried to cover notation in a general way, without specific reference to any particular software. I like MoteWorthy Composer but encourage others to try new programs as they come along. Can anyone remember the name of the recent thread where someone was chasing notation software for MAC's? I have what looks like a good answer. Regards, John |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: GUEST,The Beanster Date: 05 Mar 00 - 11:58 PM Thanks, Praise! I will go see that thread. And I can handle getting wrestled around a bit and tickled under the chin! It's just the noogies and the wedgies I don't like. :) |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 06 Mar 00 - 12:22 AM Hey beanster, LOL!! Deal: you get more noogies/wedgies than you can handle, let me know, we'll gang up and noogie/wedgie 'em in tandem! Deal? |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Troll Date: 06 Mar 00 - 12:27 AM Praise---Have you been at the cooking sherry again? Noogie/wedgie in tandem! The mind boggles! *grin* troll who is hitting the diet cola pretty heavy lately |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: GUEST,The Beanster Date: 06 Mar 00 - 07:58 PM LMAO, Praise! Deal. |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: wysiwyg Date: 06 Mar 00 - 08:02 PM troll, If I can hold a mic and an F9 for Hardiman while he fiddles for HearMe, I bet I can do a noogie and a wedgie at the same time by myself, but then how would I pull my pants down when it makes me nearly pee them? Put me on the noogie/wedgie rapid response team here at Mudland, where the 'Cats troll for the catch of the day. I saw your klezmer site!!! You are so cute! |
Subject: RE: Shameless Mudcat Commercial for Newbies From: Homeless Date: 06 Mar 00 - 08:05 PM I didn't know we were supposed to introduce ourselves. I supposed I'd better get over there and do so. I guess that's what I get for not reading every message in every thread. *BG* |
