Actually, as a Florida Folk Singer, I frequently encounter the anti-Buffet sentiment. Perhaps even the anti-Buffet. I performed at the Will McLean Folk Festival this weekend which is an annual confluence of Florida song-maker types. The hit of the Saturday evening line-up was a young protege of the late Gamble Rogers named Sam Pacetti (if you're not familiar with Sam yet, you will be...). Late in Sam's set, someone from the audience yelled for him to play Margaritaville. "Hell no", says Sam, "this is a Buffet-free zone". There is a real sentiment among the Floriad Folkies that Jimmy is "too commercial" or "too rock" to be called a folk musician. Personally I like alot of Buffet's stuff and have most of his recordings...I would suggest Jerry Falwell as the one true Anti-Buffet, however.

It was just a joke! Although I, like many who stand before a crowd with an acoustic guitar do get tired of requests for Buffettiana. I like some of his stuff. Just doing a little joke.

Thanks, PG, I like Buffet too, but I caught a snippet of an interview on WMNF with a Florida or Gulfcoast singer/songwriter who was claiming to be the anti-Buffett. He's an artist who supposedly walks the talk (i.e., not rich enough to live in Palm Beach). He seemed interesting, but I didn't catch his name. Maybe it was Pacetti.

I always thought that Buffett was the Anti-Fred Neil. It's a shame that the only thing a lot of folks remember about Fred Neil is "Everbody's Talkin' ". If you havn't heard him I strongly recommend him. Some of his stuff has just been released on CD.

I recently found out that Fred Neil passed away in July 2001. It was with great sadness that I found this out. I only recently refound his music on cd. I used to go see him live back in the sixties at the Gaslight South in Coconut Grove, Fl. He will be missed.
