Ooooh! Two offers at once!

Mmmmm... Amergin. Yours would indeed do, and handsomely.

Bert. I dunno Bert, don't you have radio to dash off to shortly?

OK. Bert it is, till Radio Show time, then he'll have a guitar to manage anyway. Then Amergin! Yeah! Amergin during the radio show! OK Amergin?

Sugar Dog hops up... mashes Bert around til he's just right (he's so cute when he giggles!), gets settled in, and.....

zzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Praise tells me there's lots of sympathy and cuddles for those of us frail beings with health problems, would that be right? I could certainly use a lap and lots of the kind of kindness that makes me cry just at the moment.Actaully a pint of Guiness and a small malt whisky wouldn't come amiss either. And somebody tell Cleetus that the brand of moonshine he's passing round will make you go blind ( my mother told me something completely different, do you think she doesn't know about moonshine?)

Now that Dave has finished his song. I'll just draw another pint to oil my throat and recite this little bit that I got here:

One Hand on the Bulwarks

One hand on the bulwarks, one hand on the cigarette, watching the fog creep back from the shoreline, bit by bit, inch by inch, foot by foot. I am watching the whales dance on the ocean crests, singing their celebratory songs of life, songs of their travels, songs of those that have come before.

One hand on the bulwarks, one hand on the cigarette, feeling the greasiness of dirty clothes brushing against clean skin, with each roll of the boat, each shift of the legs, each lifting of an arm, each turning of the head. You can't wash your clothes they say, have to conserve fresh water they say, it's only four days they say. AAARRGGGHHH!!!! The griminess of it all!!!

One hand on the bulwarks, one hand on the cigarette, hearing the gentle roar of the diesel engines reverberating throughout the vessel, vibrating the steel decks, the bulkheads, the portholes, the crew as the beached stern of the New Carissa slowly descends from sight.

Got an open lap available....

Amergin

Whooooooooooosh-sh-sh..... just back from a short trip out back to TCB, Sugar Dog piles into Amergin's lap, indulges in a moment of determined cheek-licking, and settles in to watch the Tavern fun.

Biskit, no stranger to under-the-table maneuvers, had apparently dragged Mbo to his rest from which resting place, from time to time, we hear a faint balladic whisper

TerriM and Dave, in the next recliner, are just getting comfy for a bit of purely platonic and therapeutic snuggle time. Dave has shaved again and TerriM is weeping softly with no particular pain in mind, just at the relief of landing at safe harbor. Dave doesn't mind because whatever her tears' cause, it's no fault of his and when a lass needs a good weep, why not?

Sugar Dog can smell Biskit still, but he was in and back out so fast she missed him while TCB. But it seems he may have kidnapped Sorcha with her complete cooperation... sniff-sniff... tasting the air.... yep. Sugar Dog can SMELL the wild cackle Sorcha let out when she realized she could hop a ride with Biskit and take a nice, loooooong trip!

Sugar Dog 'bout used up her remarkable powers of observation and reportage, so (scrunch-wiggle-lap adjust) settles down for a nice nap amid all the noise, safe and snug among friends.

Here I am with the sugar dog in my lap, a pint in my hand, giggling from the licking and the wriggling, one arm around her as she settles in for her nap, careful not to spill my beer (can't have that), watching the goings on around me, thinking on what Aine's next Challenge will be....

(plipp!) A drop of beer lands on Sugar Dog's paw. She absently licks it off in her sleep.

Mmmmm....zzzzzz...

Amergin reaches over for the conveniently-placed wheeled tray table Spaw sent over from the Neil Young Center, pulls it over, and sets down the beer.... reaches into the pullout tray for the Notepad, and begins to scribe a song....

Yep, that adjustable tray height JUST FITS over Sugar Dog, sleeping happily below while songs dance over her silky caramel-colored head, and she begins to dream... of another Tavern, in another time.... The Mudcat Tavern Enterprise...

Gently moving the sleeping lass to a comfortable spot in his recliner, the ancient mariner picks up the sleeping Mbo and puts him in an unoccupied recliner in a warm spot in the corner... Poor Lad!! alone and tired out... wonder where the lassies went? Well cant leave a shipmate on the deck in stormy weather... Night all! I'm off to the lighthouse on Mudcat Island, gotta work on me sport fishing boat I just bought.. TTFN, Aye.

Oh whiskey is the life of man
Whiskey Johnny
Oh I'll get whiskey when i can
Whiskey for my Johnny

Oh whiskey hot or whiskey cold
Whiskey Johnny
Oh whiskey new or whiskey old
Whiskey for my Johnny

Oh whiskey killed my dear old dad
whiskey Johnny
And whiskey drove me mother mad
Whiskey for my Johnny

Oh whiskey made me pawn me clothes
Whiskey Johnny
And whiskey gave me this broken nose
Whiskey for my Johnny

Bye mates catch you all in another tavern night...

I listen to the gentle snoring of those around me, of Sugar Dog yelping in her sleep chasing cats, rabbits, or whatever strikes her fancy, as I scribble into my notepad, softly singing out my words as I go along...

Into My Thoughts

I hear her voice calling to me in my sleep Swirling in my head the whispers softly creep Into my thoughts....

I see her standing before me in my dreams Unclothed and dripping from the river streams Into my thoughts.....

I hear her sing her beann sidhe songs Wailing and crying the whole night long Into my thoughts....

I feel her creamy breasts touching me Caressing my skin everytime she breathed Into my thoughts.....

I taste her mouth as her tongue entered mine Knowing the dreams are being left behind Into my thoughts....

I smell her sweet sweat filling my lungs I arise and know that you are now gone Into my thoughts....

Amergin

I finish my pint and lean back closing my lids and gently drift off to sleep, to the music of the snoring........

I'm also the only one who can nab her when she's bad, her remonstrances never faze me, I can tease her even when she's in a scratching mood, and still get away with it...that's why my family calls me "The Kitty Police"! But I haven't had a recliner spinning contest in years...did you ever have piano stool twirling contests? The trick was to twist it right out of the socket yet maintain your balance so it spun on top without tipping over...while still sitting on it...most spins won!

Where better to post this than in the thread where I found more laps than I had ever dreamed possible?

I'll leave it here for the day someone else needs a lap and there are no Mudcatters present at the Tavern to hop into the recliner and snuggle up. See, it is a plaque, hanging right over the recliner section.... it reads:

IN JESUS' LAP

1 In Jesus' lap is always Truth
And truth in love is told.
In Jesus' lap is peace and life,
No story is too old.

CHORUS:
In Jesus' lap I love to lie
And lie there when I can.
In Jesus' lap where I was born
When to His lap I ran.

2. To Jesus' lap will I return
When buffeted by storm.
To Jesus' lap my soul does fly
When cold heart I would warm.

3. From Jesus' lap I'll pray for you,
And bless you in your way.
From Jesus' lap, love, I can see
You, clearer every day.

4 In Jesus' lap, His loving arms
Encircle what He's won.
In Jesus' lap, oh! lay me down
When I my race have run.

Please indulge me in another round of this thread. If it gets a lot of action I know someone will make a Part Three.

A critter called Sugar Dog makes her first appearance in the Part One thread on this:

http://www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=21011&messages=141

In these threads, as we got to know Sugar Dog, we also found out what is a Sugar Dog Man. And that's why I am refreshing this.

A dear Sugar Dog Man from our parish died today-- Ernie. So since I didn't get to say goodbye, I thought maybe I would just toast him here. His widow is also a sugar dog, Marguerite. She is blind and as Amos said to me today, and I paraphrase cuz I don't remember it accurately, she must be in a deeper darkness now. I said, I dunno, a sugar dog will amaze you most of the time, she's already so far ahead of me that I could not begin to imagine how she is in this, now. Strong I know, and taking her tears in their season head on, from what Hardi said after going to see her.

So-- raise a glass to Ernie and Marguerite, a love that kept two people together body and soul throughout life's infirmities, lives lived in the Lord, and a way of seeing people that has magic and joy and fun in it.

And JenEllen-- aaaahhhHHHH-ROOOOOOoooohhh!

Kim, if it takes being either a Sugar Dog Man or another sugar dog to see the Sugar Dog, then I must be another whiskey cat myself, and if so I am at least 12. And you then would be another sugar dog, in addition to the Whiskey Cat.

Hmmm... I do know some Whiskey Cat Men, too... explains a lot!

The there's WonderGoose and DandyGander. Another story.
