Subject: Life Get's TeeJus Don't it. From: GUEST,Clay Date: 14 May 00 - 08:37 PM I was discussing Life get's... and someone mentioned that I had missed a verse. They couldn't remember all of it but it contained the lines: I open the door and the flies swarm in. I shut shut the door and I'm sweating again. Anyone have any Idea? Thanks Clay |

Subject: RE: Life Get's TeeJus Don't it. From: Billy the Bus Date: 15 May 00 - 06:41 AM G'day Clay,
You need "Real Player" (which also plays Mudcat Radio), You'll find it at aargghh... Life is most un-teejus at the moment... thort it would be simple... Goto Real Player Homepage, go for the "basic" version, jsut below the piccie. Hope you're on a PC, not one of those Macintosh thingies
Hope that helps - you'll love it when you hear it - original version as far as I know.

Even a Kiwi would accept a post of M&M Teejus from Darwin
Post it, cobber, post it! The old family 78 of the follow-up was wobbly in the 40s, and I never got to hear it properly!
Please, please, post the words ASAP. NZ will take Joe Bjorke P back, I promise never, ever to throw the borax at an OZ again (until next time)
Please post the words mate!

Subject: Lyr Add: MORE AND MORE TEEJUS, AIN'T IT^^ From: Tony in Darwin Date: 15 May 00 - 08:49 AM Sam, ya silver-tongued devil, you talked me into it - here 'tis ! MORE AND MORE TEEJUS, AIN'T IT (Tune: Life Gets Teejus, Don't It) Carson Robison The years roll on and your hair gets thin, Then you start to growin' your second chin; Democrats are in again - Gets monotonous, don't it? I've used every tonic in the world, I think And my head's just as bald as the kitchen sink; Mosquitoes use it for a skatin' rink - Plum aggravatin' sometimes. My teeth are gone - all but two - A lot o' good they're gonna do, 'Cause they don't meet by a mile or two - Sure makes it hard chawin'. Gettin' wide in the beam and my stomach dips, Got no more lap than a snake's got hips, And when I squat, somethin' rips - Just more and more teejus, ain't it. I get up at night to "look at the moon", It's as dark as the inside of King Tut's tomb; Stump my toe on the - uh - "spitoon" - Well, I oughta have modern plumbin'. They say that I'm lazy and maybe it's true, But if I wasn't meant to sit down like I do, Then why was I made to bend where I do? Sure fit this old rockin' chair. Some guy tears through life like a blizzard, Folks point him out and say, "He's a wizard!" Then he's dead at forty with a burned-out gizzard - Huh - I'll be eighty-one come April. Can't help but smile at some of these guys Who get so big in the public eye Them six feet of earth make us all one size - Nope, y' can't take it with you. Life has many a twist and turn And we live and die and never learn If our wings will flap or our tailfeathers burn - Powerful uncertain, ain't it? Yet, the years roll on and I try to grin, To keep things from gettin' under my skin, But I'm gettin' that (sniff) cold in my nose again - Life gets tasteless, don't it? Sam, leave us "Joe Bjorke P" - our folk-laureate, John Dengate, would've dropped off the twig years ago if he hadn't had the Darling Downs Despot to lampoon. But you're welcome to John Howard if you like - most of us would be glad to get rid of him. Cheers, Tony ^^ |

Subject: Lyr Add: A MAN'S TALE OF WOE From: kendall Date: 21 Nov 04 - 06:51 PM And on this subject.... A MAN'S TALE OF WOE Now my wife just left and the well went dry, and my horse got sick and about to die. Then my still blew up and the barn burned down, and the road washed out the way to town. Then my dog got rabies and bit the cat and they both died soon after that. Now I lost my specs and my pipe stem broke, so I can't even sit and read and smoke. Then a tree fell on the chicken shed, and most of the hens got smashed plumb dead. Then a chimney fire took half of a wall, and this old shack is about to fall. Then I caught my heel on an old dead vine, and sat smack dab on a porcupine. Then a beaver dam broke and my bridge washed out, and my watch stopped working and I've got the gout. And the bank foreclosed so I've lost my place, and my cow's disappeared without a trace. They cut off my credit at the grocery store, and I lost my job and a whole lot more. I must have been hexed by a triple curse, as things keep going from bad to worse. And now fate has hit me a last dirty crack; to top off the worst - my wife's coming back. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Life Gets Teejus, Don't It? From: pdq Date: 25 Nov 04 - 01:57 PM Both "Life Gits Teejus Don't It" and "The Clouds Are Gwine to Roll Away" are on Doc Watson's "On Stage" recording which came out in 1971. I doubt that there is a better example of Doc Watson's combination of charm, skill and humility than is found here. Carson Robison also wrote "Dem Golden Slippers", a song often assumed to be "traditional". The current CD version of Doc's "On Stage" leaves off the Homer and Jethro sendup of "Moving On", unfortunatey. |

From: Joe Richman Date: 26 Nov 04 - 12:37 AM Carson R. in addition to "teejus" wrote "My Blue Ridge Mountain Home", "I Just Don't Want to be Rich" and quite a few others. He probably recorded "Golden Slippers" but Bland wrote it (Bland also wrote "Carry me back to Old Virginny"). |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Life Gets Teejus, Don't It? From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 12 Jul 06 - 05:00 PM 'Life Gets Teejus' was a popular record in the UK when I was around 17/18 years old, circa 1950/51. It was sung by a performer named Peter Lind Hayes. Anybody know anything about him? Burl. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Life Gets Teejus, Don't It? From: Peace Date: 12 Jul 06 - 05:13 PM Peter Lind Hayes (June 25th, 1915 - April 21st, 1998) a.k.a Joseph Conrad Lind Peter Lind Hayes was the son of entertainer/nightclub entrepreneur Grace Hayes (1896-1989). Hayes was nine years old when he joined his mother's vaudeville act, doing an impression of Hollywood child star Jackie Coogan. He then spent several years as the star attraction of the Grace Hayes Lodge in the San Fernando Valley. In 1938, he made the first of his sporadic film appearances, and in 1940, he married his future stage and screen partner, singer/actress Mary Healy. While serving with distinction in the Army Air Force, Hayes was featured in the 1944 20th Century-Fox feature Winged Victory. From 1946 onward, the songs-and-snappy-patter team of Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healey was a top New York nightclub and theatrical attraction. They extended their activities to TV in 1949, starring in such variety series as Inside the USA With Chevrolet (1949-50), The Stork Club (1950), The Peter Lind Hayes Show (1950-51, with Mary--originally titled Peter and Mary) and Star of the Family (1951). Their last regular TV gig was the semiautobiographical 1960 sitcom Peter Loves Mary (1960). In addition, Hayes and Healey starred in the 1958 Broadway play Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?, while Hayes soloed as Arthur Godfrey's TV and radio summer replacement and as one of the post-Paar, pre-Carson hosts of The Tonight Show. While his film career never attained the heights of his activities elsewhere, Hayes enjoyed at least one truly memorable screen role: Mr. Zalbedowski in the cult musical fantasy 5000 Fingers of Dr. T, co-starring wife Mary and Hans Conried. Active in a number of entertainment fields, Peter Lind Hayes was the author of three books and several magazine and newspaper articles, and served as producer-host of the 1975 anthology series When Television Was Live. Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: LIFE GETS TEEJUS DON'T IT? From: Gene Date: 13 Jul 06 - 02:26 AM Carson Robison's MGM records single, "LIFE GETS TEEJUS DON'T IT?" Entered the country music charts August 14th, 1948 and peaked at number three. It was his second charted song and was on the charts for 28 weeks. It also scored a no. 14 on the pop music charts. LIFE GETS TEEJUS DON'T IT? [Version from Rose's website] Carson Robison [1] The sun comes up. [4] The sun goes down. [5] Hands on the clock keep [1] goin' around. [1] I just get up and it's [4] time to lay down. [5] Life gets teejus [1] don't it? My shoe's untied, but I don't care. I ain't figurin' on goin' nowhere. I'd have to wash and comb my hair. That's just wasted effort. Water in the well gettin' lower and lower. Can't take a bath for six month's more, But I've heard it said, and it's true, I'm sure, That too much bathin' will weaken you. I open the door and the flies swarm in. I shut the door and I'm sweatin' again, And in the process, I've cracked my shin, Just one dern thing after another. Old brown mule, he must be sick. I jabbed him in the rump with a pin on a stick. He humped his back, but he wouldn't kick. There's something cockeyed somewhere. A mouse chawin' on the pantry door, He's been at it for a month or more. When he gets through, he'll sure be sore, 'Cause there ain't a dern thing in there. Hound dog howlin' so forlorn, Laziest dog that ever was born. He's howling 'cause he's settin' on a thorn, Just too tired to move over. The tin roof leaks and the chimney leans, And there's a hole in the seat of my old blue jeans, And I've et the last of the pork 'n' beans. Just can't depend on nothin'. Cows gone dry and the hens won't lay. Fish quit bitin' last Saturday. Trouble's pilin' up day by day, And now I'm gettin' dandruff. Grief and misery, pains and woes, And debts and taxes, so it goes, And I think I'm gettin' a cold in the nose. Life gets tasteless, don't it? |
