Kendall, I've had vocal probs and the biggest danger is the depression that sets in after days of not singing. Keep your head up, dearie, and know that the Mudcat is pulling out all the stops towards your healing!

This must be a tough time for you....I think Julie Andrews can't sing because they screwed the operation (I could be very wrong)and maybe she just wasn't happy with the voice the surgery left her with....however, I wish you well, and look forward to hearing you sing again on Hearme!

I sure do thank all of you for your thoughts. It is a worrysome thing to a singer, and, although something tells me it is not cancer, I still remember Julie Andrews and her bout with something. She will probably never sing again.

Good luck, Kendall. Years ago my brother had vocal nodes. In his case, the treatment (successful) was 3 weeks of silence. Difficult- but whistling was allowed!

I have known several singers in the past with this problem and none of them were malignant so be of good faith and don't worry. Vocal nodes are the bane of the female singer; men get them far less often; I think because when women sing in their chest voice they put more strain on the chords. I tried to explain this to a male ex-band member once when he accused me of "not practicing enough" to avoid vocal fatigue...if it doesn't happen to you it is hard to understand it I guess...

Patti Lupone (Broadway's original Evita) and Stevie Nicks both had them...

Some of you already know, so, I'll let all of you in on what's going on. After frequent bouts with laryingitis, I finally saw a specialist, and with the aid of a very long scope, which he stick up my nose and down my throat, he found spots on my vocal chords. I have to go to the hospital for a biopsy. Wish me well.
