I'm a big Bromberg fan - was all set to see him a month ago but there was a last minute snafu. Thought I'd lost my last chance to see him, but I hope not to let that happen this time.

Maybe he's coming back into the public light with this tour - I hope it's a precedent, 'cause he's been pretty reclusive for a long time.

Planning to see him Dec. 16th., in Poughkeepsie, my original home town, BTW.

When I last spoke with him, which was well over a year and a half ago, he said he had no desire nor inclination to "carry a band and a show" and go back on the road. He told me of recent instances where he was offered "obscene amounts of money" to play at some festivals and he turned them all down as he was only willing to perform half the number of sets that the promoters were wanting from him.

For a long time, and continuing to this day his main passion is in collecting, playing, buying and selling American made vioilins. I think the few dates and gigs he has doing, are very carefully selected with low stress factors and the money must be really good.

Hell I wanted him to come to Toronto so badly, I even considered producing and promoting him myself, but upon consulation with a few well known Toronto folkies whose noses are firmly planted to the folk grindstone, we came to the collective conclusion that we couldn't guarantee selling out a 500 room venue for 2 or 3 consective nights, which means I wouldn't have broken even and likely taken a huge bath. I love the guy and think he's an extremely under-rated monster of a talent, but I'm kind of fond of the shirt I'm wearing...so for the time being I will continue to get my Bromberg fixes from the many recordings I have of him.
