Can anyone help me out here?. I've decided to try to learn the 5 string banjo which has been lying around my house for 20 years or so, maybe longer. Now I have two problems , one is that I'm left handed, the other is that I'm a late starter, very late. And I've never played an instrument of any kind before.( the only non playerin at least two generations of my family) Is there a good book on 5 string banjo that anyone can reccomend??. Time is ticking on,I've got to do it now.

Try starting with Pete Seeger's 5 string banjo book also a good one by Art Rosenbaum, The Art of the 5 string banjo after you've mastered those look for Bill Keith, Tony Trishka and Bela Fleck...............Good Luck !!!!

Mariner, I may not be left handed, but I did take up the banjo only about 1 1/2 years ago. It has brought me so much joy and a bundle of wonderful new folks in my life.

Frugz makes a great suggestion about Pete Seeger's book. I got lots of guidance from Pete's book. But most important for me was finding a good instructor. That made the biggest difference and offered me the most inspiration.
