Subject: Behind Those Swinging Doors From: GUEST,DaveO Date: 24 Nov 00 - 04:26 PM I just a while ago thought of a good old song, "Behind Those Swinging Doors", of which the chorus starts, "Ohhhh, the doors swing in, the doors swing out And some pass in, while others pass out (da dah da da dah da da dah da da da) Behind those swinging doo-ooo-orrs..... Behind those swinging doors. I have searched the DT for [swinging doors], for "swinging", for doors, and [pass out], to no avail. Can anyone help out here? Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: Lyr Add: BEHIND THOSE SWINGING DOORS From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Nov 00 - 04:44 PM BEHIND THOSE SWINGING DOORS 1. 'Twas Saturday night in an old mining town. Jake's barroom was merry and gay, But far from the laughter a mother did wait For Pop to come home with his pay. "What's keeping dear father? Why doesn't he come?" The daughter exclaimed through her tears. The mother replied, "I'm sadly afraid Your father has stopped for some beer." CHORUS 1: Oh, oh, the doors swing in, the doors swing out, Where some pass in, and others pass out. This story is told of a fool and his gold, Behind the singing doors, behind the swinging doors. 2. "Oh, I shall go fetch him," the daughter declared. "He sha'n't bring disgrace to our name." And straightway she ran to the corner saloon To save her poor father from shame. "Dear father, dear father, come home with me now. The clock in the steeple strikes two. Dear mother is waiting. The rent must be paid. Don't spend all your money on booze." CHORUS 2: Oh, oh, the doors swing in, the doors swing out, Where some pass in, and others pass out. Through the smoke and the haze, there stood Pop in a daze, Behind the singing doors, behind the swinging doors. 3. Each Saturday night at the corner saloon, The miners come in with their gold, And Papa blows in all his wages for gin, And Nelly blows home in the cold. "Dear mother, dear mother, my mission I've failed. My father will ne'er mend his ways." The mother exclaimed, "We'll suffer the shame. It's always the woman who pays!" Spaw |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Behind Those Swinging Doors From: GUEST,DaveO Date: 24 Nov 00 - 05:36 PM Spaw: Thank, you, thank you! That's the song. I had a little variance in the words, but that's normal. Now, if I only had the verse tune I'd be in great shape. The chorus I know. Actually I can, if necessary, come up with a tune that would work all right, but I'd rather have the original if possible. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Behind Those Swinging Doors From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Nov 00 - 06:12 PM I too can vaguely remember the tune but I don't know if it would be accurate or just "close and sounds OK".....Maybe someone has it. Ya' know, as I recall, my Dad had that on a Spike Jones record set....he loved Spike Jones and its that kind of song. Wait a minute..... HEY!!!! Check this out!!!! Its available on a couple of Jones albums, but there is a sound clip which is the refrain....BUT, the verse starts at the end and you can get a couple of bars to get you started or maybe jog the memory...........CLICK HERE I HOPE Spaw |

'Twas Saturday night in this old mining town. Jake's bar room was merry and gay, And far from this laughter a mother did wait For Pop to come home with his pay. "Mother, oh Mother, oh where can he be?" Daughter exclaimed through her tears. Mother replied, "I'm sadly afraid That father has stopped for some beers." CHORUS: Oh, the doors swing in and the doors swing out While some pass in and others pass out. Your father I fear has his nose in some beer Behind those swinging doors. 2. "Now I shall go fetch him," the daughter did say, "He shan't bring disgrace to our name." So straightway she went to the corner saloon To save her poor father from shame. "Oh father, dear father, come home with me now. The clock in the steeple strikes two. The rent's to be paid and I'm sadly afraid You'll spend all your money for brew." CHORUS: Oh, the doors swing in and the doors swing out, While some pass in and some pass out. Through the smoke and the haze, there stands Pop in a daze, Behind those swinging doors, Behind those swinging doors. 3. Each Saturday night in this old mining town The miners come in with their gold, And father blows in all his wages for gin And Nellie goes home in the cold. "Oh mother," she wailed, "My mission I've failed. My father will ne'er mend his ways." The mother replied, "It's always the same, It's always the women who pay." CHORUS: Oh the doors swing in and the doors swing out While some pass in and other pass out. The story is told of the fool and his gold Behind those swinging doors, Behind those swinging doors! |
