Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Troll Date: 19 Dec 00 - 03:01 AM What! No "Night On Bald Mountain"? No "Danse Macabre"? Some "Dark Midi" site. Rather liked the dancing suns though. Reminded me of the weather today. The Heir and I plan to do some yard work in the pm. Should hit around 65/70 degrees by then. Merry Solstice! troll |

Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Dec 00 - 09:41 AM Troll! You must have read my mind! I did try to put in this link last night but my machine kept locking up! I thought there might be something there which would suit Spaw's fancy more. Glad YOU at least liked the Sunshine!**BG** katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 19 Dec 00 - 10:08 AM I would like to see the song, but when I clicked on the blue clicky in the first message that says "this", all I got was "This page is unavailable." So kat, would you please write out the address so I can see the song? We have 12 degrees here, and 6 inches of snow. I like it. It is perfectly possible to like snow. Just try. It's better for your heart. However, I am reminded of a sentence from a mystery story which ought to become a proverb. "Youth, like snow, if a problem which goes away if ignored." |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Dec 00 - 11:14 AM Sure, Leeneia, it is http://www.funshack.com/sun.html I just checked my link and it seemed to work okay. Now, I have egg on my face; it was too early this morning when I read Troll posting and I'd forgotten that I HAD posted the Dark Midi site and Troll is absolutely right! Some Dark Midi site, lacking those two esp.!**BG** Sorry, Troll! kat |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Dec 00 - 11:40 AM It's FINALLY snowing here, yay! O Happy Day! And they haven't closed the schools... yet! Happy Solstice To All! Merry Midwinter holiday of your choice! |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Hollowfox Date: 19 Dec 00 - 11:42 AM Let's have a LITTLE sympathy for ol' Spaw. After all, there are few things more miserable than a cold wet cat's paw (although they usually come in sets of four). |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Dec 00 - 01:50 PM Thank you 'Fox.....I knew you'd understand. So how's Youngstown? Geez, but Ohio can really get dismal this time of year can't it? Keep your paws warm. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Hollowfox Date: 19 Dec 00 - 02:19 PM Bright and crisp up here. I got the living room shoveled out and the Christmas tree in on Sunday, a fur, er, fir tree with nice soft needles. The kittens (new this spring so its their first Christmas) are mildly intrigued, but not impressed. (One year we had a cat that was afraid to go near the tree, he was sure it was going to eat him.)I'm 75% through my cold and the kids are even closer to recovery. How's your and Karen's breathing coming on? |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Dec 00 - 02:27 PM Got the tree up last week and the boys decorated it in their own "interesting" way. Karen's improving all the time and the sinus infection that the flu left me is about gone, so yeah......all's pretty right with the world. Now if we just had two nickels to rub together...........Actually the boys are going to have pretty great Christmas this year and I have a couple of surprises for Karen that she knows nothing about. That's always the best!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 19 Dec 00 - 02:32 PM Solstic is the 21st this year? Or is it the 22nd? ;-) |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Dec 00 - 02:46 PM Actually Clinton, I guess you missed the vote, but here at Mudcat we all agreed to have the Solstice fall on the 16th to coincide with Beethoven's birthday and Friday the 13th which fell on a Wednesday this month. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 19 Dec 00 - 02:50 PM Solstice isn't something that can be changed willy-nilly like that... People cannot reorder the universe to suit their desires... So I'll ask once again.. does anyone know what night solstic fall son this year? ;-) Beethoven shmeethoven.... |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: NightWing Date: 19 Dec 00 - 03:11 PM Actually sounds like a workable plan there, Spaw. *L* Clinton, actual astronomical solstice is 2000 December 21 13:37 UTC (06:37 MST, my time zone). [UTC is the correct astronomical term for the time zone best known as Greenwich Mean Time.] In other words, just about the time I have to leave to go to work Thursday morning. *sigh* Interestingly enough, there's a Partial Solar Eclipse happening XMas Day across most of North America. Check out here or else at this page or if you're interested in more info. At first glance it looks like the line of maximum eclipse (around 55% - 60%) runs along the Eastern Seaboard, then curves up through the Great Lakes states and up into Saskatchewan.

Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Dec 00 - 07:54 PM Thanks, Carol! Clinton, I'd actually read that it was on/or about the 22nd this year, according to the calendar at Witch Vox's site. kat |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: Troll Date: 19 Dec 00 - 10:13 PM Well 'Spaw, the curses you were hurling at my head earlier must have been good ones. The weather turned off lousy and we are in for a HARD freeze tonight. We're talking 19/20 degrees here for seven hours. My van, Moby Ford,(the great white van) is filled with SKEPTICS patio plants with a heater to keep them warm. Why my van and not his apartment,I hear you query? Because his apartment is already full of orchids and other delicates and he has no more room. He asked if he could borrow my van for the evening. I mean How was I to know. Oh well. The Memsahib is fond of him and the cats tolerate him so he must have some qualities that I'm missing. At any rate, frozen greetings from Frigid Florida. troll |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: katlaughing Date: 20 Dec 00 - 12:05 AM And, I heard there was Snow in Atlanta! Brings to mind that line from Gone With the Wind, "Yankees? In Georgia?!" Orchids, huh? My uncle was second to the top in the US Weather service, traveled all over and brought back orchids each time. Had some beautiful ones. I have one oldie from some woman who was a specialist, came up with new varieties. Her house was floor to ceiling orchids. Mine blooms once per year and has gorgeous dark maroon leaves. It is called a "Jewel" Orchid. Have to look up the Latin name. Anyway, Blessings on you and the Great White Moby for being so generous!**BG** kat |
Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Dec 00 - 12:10 AM troll, I am stricken with grief over the terrible fate that has befallen you. I never knew I had such power to affect Florida in such a manner............or otherwise I'd have made a lot more comments about that friggin' recount!!!! Spaw |

Subject: RE: Merry Solstice Fun - Here Comes the Sun! From: MAG (inactive) Date: 20 Dec 00 - 04:33 PM reminds me of my last, awful Xmas in the southeasternmost state (12/89). Froze my ass off, hadn't ever hooked up the heat in my funky trailer, didn't have one nickel to go anyplace, and everybody's plants died. A fitting ending to the worst 3 years of my life. Now I'm 3,000 miles away, eating apples, riding my bike, and enjoying my garden. Ciao, sunshine suckers. -- MA |
