Subject: Albert Lee fans? From: Pinetop Slim Date: 20 Dec 00 - 09:18 PM Noticed in one of those "Today's Birthdays" things in the paper that Albert Lee is 57 today. He did his first recording at age 16 with Herbie Mann, I think, and is credited on jazz, rock, traditional and even easy-listening records. Can anyone name a more versatile guitarist? |

Subject: RE: BS: Albert Lee fans? From: GUEST Date: 21 Dec 00 - 01:29 PM Albert Lee (among others) pays tribute to Clarence White here....My extremely limited exposure to Albert Lee is confined to one song he did with Steve Morse called "General Lee" on the album "The Introduction." But it's one of my favorite tracks on that album. Country-jazz feel to it. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/j.pl/6018303 |

Subject: RE: BS: Albert Lee fans? From: dwditty Date: 27 Dec 00 - 06:21 AM While employed at a very large corporation, I attended a convention where the entertainment was the Everly Brothers. Seeing as how the Everly Bros. helped me out in high school in the passion department, I was determined to sit front row center, and I did. They came on and sounded great. The real treat was the band. Emery Gordy, Herb Pedersen, Glen D. Hardin, and --- Albert Lee (among others). I immediately started scream "Country Boy." Finally the EBs gave in and had Albert step to the mic and perform the song. One of the musical highlights of my life. dw |

Subject: RE: BS: Albert Lee fans? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 27 Dec 00 - 07:24 AM dw, I did exactly the same thing in Edinburgh (holler out for "Country Boy"). I was slightly intoxicated at the time however and regretted it afterwards, since I rationalised that he was probably going to play it anyway! That band you saw was virtually the same band as played with Emmylou Harris too, wasn,t it ? Albert Lee took over after James Burton left, as I remember. I am not one for saying one guitarist is better than another, but I have to say that in the chicken-pickin' department Burton may just have had the edge. Lee is a monster player however. Anyone remember Head Hands and Feet? Murray |

Subject: RE: BS: Albert Lee fans? From: GUEST,PJ Curtis(Ireland) Date: 28 Dec 00 - 05:23 AM I had the great pleasure of working with Albert lee on a album I produced for Davy Spillane back in the 80's (Atlantic Bridge on Tara Recs.). Not only is he an astonishing guitarist( piano player, mandolin.player and singer as well!!) he one of the most humble, gentle and genuinely decent men I know. Happy Birthday Albert....come back to Ireland soon. PJC |
