Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: bydand Date: 30 Dec 00 - 07:02 PM Dear Wes and Bretta: Our sympathy and condolences to you both. We have been following this thread since it began, and hope that you have been helped by all of the kind thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement. We lost our first son many years ago when he was less than a week old, and those were indeed difficult times; especially for my wife. So, yes, do spend extra time with Bretta. One additional thought! The many kind words, hugs and warm hearts are much like a wonderful meal. You WILL be hungry again. So, do not hesitate to reach out for a listening ear, word of encouragement or asking for prayer. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for assistance, again and again; as healing takes time. God bless you both. -charles & jill |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: GUEST,Den at work Date: 28 Dec 00 - 10:25 AM Dear Wes, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Andrea and I lost a little boy who would have been 10 next May 12th. I can only tell you from experience that time is a healer. I don't know you but you strike me as being a strong person. Spend some extra time with your wife through this troubled time, these things are especially hard on the mothers for they suffer in their coming and their going. You will draw strength from each other. But you now have an angel on earth and one in heaven to look out for you. A special little voice in God's right ear when you need it. Den |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Wesley S Date: 27 Dec 00 - 01:47 PM Thanks Susan - Since you've asked the person to send it to would be Rev. Linda McDermott c/o First United Methodist Church of Ft Worth - 800 West 5th Street Ft Worth Texas 76102. There's no official name for the fund that I know of but just let her know what it's for. I could be wrong but I think your check would be tax deductable. Thankyou. |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Susan from California Date: 27 Dec 00 - 01:26 PM Wesley, You and your family will continue to be in our prayers. If you haven't already, see if your community has a chapter of Compassionate Friends. They are a support group that was very helpful to my sister when her first child died being born. Your pastor or people at the hospital should be able to connect you. Can you share with us how to make a donation for the stained glass window? I am sure I am not the only person who would be honored to send a check. Sue |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: GUEST,Big Mick Date: 27 Dec 00 - 11:46 AM Wes & Bretta, Although nothing can take away the pain of Patrick's loss, you should know that your song has helped me. I am dealing with some things just now that are a bit tough. But I have watched this song unfold, and it has shown me what uncommon grace, wisdom, and strength look like. While I choose not to go into detail, let it suffice to say that you have helped me find a path that I must pass along on. Thank you. With regard to young Patrick, I have expressed HERE my feelings on it. But there is a custom I have followed that may help. When I lose a precious voice in my life, I begin to listen for that voice in others. You may find it in Brendan, or another, but Patrick's voice is there for you. You may hear it in other children that need your special brand of love. It may come in the cry for your wisdom from one who is sorting out their own problems. Listen for it, respond, and you will never be without your precious son. I grieve with you and I celebrate that short, very special life with you. Mick |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Tony in Sweden Date: 27 Dec 00 - 06:30 AM Dear Wesley & Bretta, There's not much that one can think of to say at this moment in time, except that my wife and I send our prayers, love and wishes to you both. Although I never posted to the earlier thread, you have been in our thoughts and prayers as my wife is currently pregnant with our second child, due in may, and it has benn discovered that there are copmlications with the kidneys and heart. To Patrick, may you be filled with the fighting spirit that your brother showed in his short time here on earth. I lost my twin brother 18 years ago on our 17th birthday, but everyday I feel his presence around me. It's a beautiful and wonderful feeling. God Bless you all. Tony & Stina. |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Mark Cohen Date: 27 Dec 00 - 03:48 AM Wes and Bretta, warm hugs from the tropics. I have seen many babies and children die, and have lost a father. But I still can't imagine how big the hurt must be, even though you'd only known Patrick for a few short months, and only seen him for a handful of days, and only held him for brief minutes. As you grieve, and as you nurture your new life, allow yourselves to feel the warmth and love and caring of your friends and family nearby, and those in this far-flung community as well. Brendan will grow up in good hands: yours, theirs, and Patrick's. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: roopoo Date: 27 Dec 00 - 03:06 AM I am so sad to hear the news. I've had to let the tears dry before attempting this. Our Rector has often talked about people he has attended having a "good death". Patrick's was such, peacefully, in the proper place: in the arms of his mum and dad with God so close. I will continue to pray for all of you. I saw an epitaph recently, that of young girl actually, but the words seem somehow right: "Budded on earth to bloom in heaven". The candle was lit in church on Sunday, and I spoke to the presiding minister about Patrick. I will let him know what has happened: he is the Anglican chaplain of a big local hospital, and will understand what has been happening. Andrea |

I hope you all recieve whatever comfort and healing you need to help you get through this difficult time. Carol |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: MudGuard Date: 26 Dec 00 - 04:08 PM It is very hard for me to express my feelings - and even harder to do it in a foreign language - but I will try! It is a strange thing - although I do not know you I had tears flowing down my face when I read about Patrick! May God bless Brendan and Bretta and Wesley! And may Patrick be a good Guardian Angel! Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: catspaw49 Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:41 PM Dear Wesley and Bretta.......... As you know I'm rarely without words, but what is in my heart for you I cannot express. You have carried on far better than I can say and I am glad for the support group you have around you there at this time. A Guardian Angel huh? That's a great job and one I know Patrick will fulfill. Karen and I continue to send our best for all of you and some special love for Brendan. I cannot know how the future will turn out for him but I can tell he has very special parents and no young man can ask more. I know it was not easy to come back and tell us this news, but know too that you have friends here and we care very much. As things move along we expect you to be here with us as before........Good times and bad, it is all a part of this community too, and we care for our own as best we can. I'll join Peter T and Sophocleese in wishing you love and strength.

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: dwditty Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:30 PM Wesley, Patrick's death is a sad loss for you and Bretta, and for all those around you. Some comfort may come from the fact that his short life touched so many all around the world. I am sure that I am not alone in saying that his passing is a great personal loss for us here at the Mudcat. I, too, would be looking to my church and my faith to find comfort. I am glad that you have such strong support there. The human spirit is truly resilient, and that comes through in your expression of love for Brendan. He is so blessed to have parents of such fine character. We salute his arrival, and I will keep a candle lit tonight in celebration of him. God Bless you all. dw |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Parson Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:26 PM Wes, I haven't posted before about Patrick, but I've been reading the threads daily. (Sometimes, several times a day.) My wife & I have also had a similar, (but in many ways different) experience. But close enough that we can say that we understand something of what you feel. Looking back on that event now, some 16 years later, the thing I remember most is that despite all the grief, confusion, anger, etc, I was constantly aware of God's love. May it be so for you & your good lady. We care very much for your loss. Now, as to lullabies, don't lock yourself in too much with those. As a father of 4 I can tell you that none of my children responded to them at all. But they went to sleep almost every night, lying on my chest as I sang cowboy songs to them (Nope, I'm from the Southeast & have never lived in the West.) But especially, "I Ride An Old Paint," and "O Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie." Don't ask me why. I don't have a clue. But it only took a couple of verses & despite my terrible singing voice, they would be asleep. Give Brendon a hug from us. Randall |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Naemanson Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:16 PM I'm better now. Please accept my good wishes and support. Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Wesley S Date: 26 Dec 00 - 03:06 PM And would you believe that the guy at the shop tells me that it will cost $1,900 dollars to fix my car?? The one I paid $5,000 for. Please don't tell me that bad things happen in three's. I've got to just laugh this one off. And Dave - about the single malt - my AA group would frown on that { I'm 7 years clean and sober }. I know you meant well but according to AA "If you have a problem - take a drink - then you'll have two problems". Thanks anyway. |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: Dave the Gnome Date: 26 Dec 00 - 02:53 PM I think it has all been said before, much better than I can say it. I love the analogy with moving onto another level as I always like the one about the ship moving over the horizon. Just because we cannot see it anymore doesn't mean it's not there! I also offer the advice of trying a bottle of any fine single malt for when the pain is worse. It helps more than you think and even the hangover serves to remind us that the pain is only temporary. Sincere condolences, Wes and family. Dave the Gnome |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: mousethief Date: 26 Dec 00 - 02:40 PM Condolences, prayers, and tears for the loss of Patrick. I truly believe he is not far off, but having lost a child myself (2 actually) it is hard to always remember that. Take especially good care of Bretta, and remember that the two of you will grieve differently, and at different rates, and that doesn't mean that either of you loves Patrick less. Best wishes and prayers for a long, healthy, and happy life for little Brendan. A heart full of love from Seattle. Alex |

Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: KathWestra Date: 26 Dec 00 - 02:16 PM Dear Wesley, What a season of joy and sorrow for you, Bretta, and your family. I grieve with you at the loss of your little Patrick; you and all of us had so much hope for him. But I rejoice at Brendan's progress, and that he has such wise and gentle and strong parents. Love to all of you at this holiday season. May the turning year bring comfort, new joys, and renewed hope. Kathy |
Subject: RE: Thanks to all of you from Wesley From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 26 Dec 00 - 02:14 PM We're so sorry to hear about Patrick, and at the same time happy that things seem to be going well for Brendan. It must be such a strange mixture of feelings for Bretta and Wesley to hold at the same time, and desperately hard.
I opened a book of lullabies on my shelf, and the first I read was this Polish one:
Go to sleep, my little son, it's time now,
Sleep, my little son, the sun has gone from the day,
And here is a prayer or a song I found in another book from the Irish, with the heading "Patrick sang this"
May thy holy angels, O Christ, son of the living God,
Let them reveal true visions to us in our sleep,
May no demons, no ill, no calamity or terrifying dreams May our watch be holy, our work, our task, Our sleep, our rest without let, without break. |
