Subject: Irish Session in Toronto From: Steve Latimer Date: 05 Feb 01 - 03:15 PM I ventured into Hogtown yesterday to an Irish Session that my sister had heard about. It runs every Sunday @ 4:00 P.M. at Dora Keogh's on the Danforth (About five doors west of the Danforth Music Hall). I enjoyed it very much. There were a number of fiddles, tenor banjos, a couple of flutes, pennywhistles and later in the session a woman came in with a full sized harp. It was all Trad. It seemed quite relaxed, no mikes, just a section reserved for players in the back of the pub. I live in Whitby so I can't see myself becoming a regular, but I can see myself going back from whenever possible. Had a nice visit with the Fieldings too.

Subject: RE: Irish Session in Toronto From: katlaughing Date: 07 Feb 01 - 12:48 AM Oh very kewl, Rick! Gee, I wonder how my string quartet would've done with one of those; probably poke each other's eyes out!**BG** Lucky you, Steve! My dad has been a musician and a welder all of his life. He has always designed things to be as efficient as possible reducing any work to the least amount of effort in order to be safe and still produce good quality work. Anyway, when he goes out to entertain, it is difficult for him to turn around and pick instruments from their cases or wherever, so he fired up the welding rig and made himself a lazy-susan type of stand with an instrument hanging hook kind of thing at the top for each instrument. So he's got the whirly-gig kind of upright stand with banjo, fiddle, mando all hanging by their necks, and a microphone coming out of the top of it. It's pretty neat. |

Subject: RE: Irish Session in Toronto From: Steve Latimer Date: 07 Feb 01 - 09:38 AM Hey Rick, I was telling Susan about your invention. She brought up a good point, you'll have to make sure you have four copies of each chart. Hope you'd thought about that, photocopying can get expensive. Jimmy C, I'll PM you. |
