Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: MMario Date: 19 Mar 01 - 01:29 PM ahhhhh---but you see, it depends on what the toys are... |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: Mrrzy Date: 19 Mar 01 - 01:44 PM Matt beat me to it, of course. That collector guy shows up elsewhere, but I always think of him as The Guy Who Collected Data. The question is, do I have the right episode in mind? But back to the question...So far I like the King/Pawn quote best so far... and I guess I never "got" the idea of dying and winning anything at the same time... |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: mousethief Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:13 PM Nah. The flesh rots off. Bone grafts are the only thing truly permanent. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: Amos Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:20 PM Actually, folks, the person who collects the most insights, understandings and abilities is the one who wins when he dies, as he has a better chance of making his design stick next time around. But as far as I know noone has ever worked out a foolproof way to collect toys from a previous identity. I suppose you could do it today with passwording methods if you could guarantee that you'd remember something as relatively trivial (experientially) as a password. I did know a guy once who tried to dig up past life memories involving buried wealth from the days before banks. The interesting thing was all the locations were where he said they were but the landscaping was so wildly different after 100 years or so that he couldn't recognise anything. A shame. |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:24 PM Mrrz, Kivas Fajo (named after production worker Lolita Fatjo) AKA "The Guy Who Collected Data" only appeared in the episode "The Most Toys." You may be thinking of time-traveller Berlinghoff Rasmussen (played by Matt Frewer), who tried to steal Data in "A Matter of Time". |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: GUEST Date: 19 Mar 01 - 03:27 PM "We who have come back, by the aid of many lucky chances or miracles - whatever one may choose to call them - we know: the best of us did not return." --Viktor Frankl, Man's Search For Meaning ...but he was talking about something entirely different - or was he? |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: Mrrzy Date: 20 Mar 01 - 09:57 AM Matt, you have the right actor, or at least the one I was thinking of. He ends up in lots of stuff, just none of it Trekky. The problem with the whole idiom of "take it with you" assumes you're going somewhere... back to Trek, what about that episode where the people wanted to be REMEMBERED rather than to SURVIVE? THAT is true immortality! |

Subject: RE: BS: Wise Words for March 19th From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 20 Mar 01 - 10:03 AM Ah, that could be any number of episodes, from "The Inner Light" to a recent Voyager one dealing with ethnic cleansing/holocaust. Do you mean the the TOS episode where the people were inside those glass balls, and they got into Kirk and Spock & Nurse Chapel and they started duking it out? |
