Subject: Stephen Foster on PBS--Website and Guide From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Apr 01 - 09:32 PM Just noticed that on next week's PBS schedule is a Stephen Foster American Experience Special that appears to be pretty decent. There is a teacher's guide with a transcript of the show also. Here's the PBS Stephen Foster Website so you can check it out for yourself. The "generic" PBS schedule shows it on Monday, 4/23/01 at 9 PM, but check your own listings. Good website with some audio clips too. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Stephen Foster on PBS--Website and Guide From: Paul G. Date: 13 Apr 01 - 11:32 PM Thanks, Spaw -- Our annual Florida Folk festival is held at the Stephen Foster Folk Life Center in White Springs on the banks of the Suwanee River. "Old Folks At Home" is the Florida State Song (even though the original lyric is far from politically correct)...of course Foster likely never set foot in Florida...I'll certainly be watching the show and spreading the word down here... pg |
Subject: RE: Stephen Foster on PBS--Website and Guide From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 13 Apr 01 - 11:40 PM Same here in Bardstown...home of My Old Kentucky Home. Paul, we think Stephen visited his cousins here, thus quite a large tourist industry and lots of hoopla. |
Subject: RE: Stephen Foster on PBS--Website and Guide From: GUEST,#1 Date: 14 Apr 01 - 12:49 AM I seem to recall a few dead distilleries in Bardstown. There's a Stephen Foster Museum on the north side of the Suwanee River, right about on the Georgia border. It seems unlikely that Foster ever saw that river. |
