Subject: Please note: change in membership name From: katlaughing Date: 03 Aug 01 - 05:27 PM Someone thought it would be funny or something to start a bogus membership as "kat\katlaughing" with a backslash, instead of the forward slash I've used. Rather than deal with their bullshit, I have changed my membership back to just "katlaughing" so, please if you wish to reach me, PM to that membership name, only. remember it is all lower case. Max, Joe and Pene are all aware of this and taking care of it on their end. Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Burke Date: 03 Aug 01 - 05:48 PM Just noticed the shorter name in another thread & was wondering what was up. Nothing wrong with changing, but a shame you felt the need to do it. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: GUEST Date: 03 Aug 01 - 05:53 PM Also remember that "mousetheif" is NOT Alex Alex is the rightly-spelled "mousethief". And you spelled deceive wrong too. |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Noreen Date: 03 Aug 01 - 06:17 PM Isn't it sad that someone has nothing better to do than to find the admittedly myriad ways of deceiving the nice people here at the Mudcat Café? Noreen |

Subject: Identity Theft From: mousethief Date: 03 Aug 01 - 06:23 PM Please also note that somebody else has created a new member name "mousetheif" (note spelling and compare to the real item) and is posting as if me -- see above post on this thread (03-Aug-01 05:48 PM). I should think that for the purposes of maintaining the peace, Joe or Max should not allow names that are too tantilizingly close to existing member names. Alex |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: SharonA Date: 03 Aug 01 - 06:36 PM Someone's been thieving from the thief! (or should I say theiving?) Does that work for capital and lower-case letters too? in other words, do you mean to say that someone could sign up as Sharona (with a small "a") and it would be recognized as a different name than SharonA? Or does it work only with different key strokes? Agreed that too-close names should at least be discouraged if not disallowed. And someone deliberately posing as someone else (such as mousethEIf signing off as "Alex" in mousethIEf's style) should be harshly dealt with. SharonA (and if anyone doubts it, I'll start writing all my posts in song... let 'em imitate THAT) |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Aug 01 - 06:40 PM I'm sorry, but we can't keep ahead of all this. It would be really helpful if people would discuss Mudcat security flaws only by personal message to Max, Pene, or me. If you point out flaws in a public forum, it helps the flamers keep ahead of us. Silence is still the best tool against flamers. You may think you're solving the problem by posting a response, but your just feeding that flamer's craving for attention. Sorry, Alex. At this time, I cannot and will not do anything about the "mousetheif" membership. Same thing goes with questioning the deletion of flame threads. The "pornography" thread brought some 50 well-intentioned responses, and a discussion of whether I was right to delete another thread that requested links to porno sites. If you want to discuss my editing actions, do it with me privately. Public discussion of anti-flaming efforts just encourages flamers. I've spent most of the day cleaning up messes, and a lot of the mess has been caused by well-meaning Mudcatters trying to second-guess my actions. I make lots of mistakes, but I try to do my best. Public discussion of my efforts just makes things worse. Please, people, do yourselves a favor and answer flamers only with silence. I'm outa here. On vacation. Goodbye. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: mousethief Date: 03 Aug 01 - 08:10 PM Will this post be deleted? The kat\katlaughing ID has been deactivated. Why can't the mousetheif one be deactivated in just the same way? Will this post be deleted? Alex (the real one -- always check the spelling!) |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: SharonA Date: 04 Aug 01 - 11:15 AM Actually, I'm glad kat brought this up in the public Forum; otherwise I would've had no idea that this was going on (and I can't imagine her PM'ing EVERYONE to tell them of the name change!). Now I know to proofread the "From:" line carefully before making assumptions about the post-er's identity. Let's face it; flamers will always be "ahead" of us if we look at it that way. Look at it another way, and they're beneath us. Perhaps, in the row of library computers, they're beside us. In one (twisted) sense, I have to admire their creativity, and we can take a lesson from them to beware of our own complacency. Also, I have to chuckle when I read complaints in the Forum about their having nothing better to do than flame us; what better things could/should WE be doing? SharonA (this week) |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: SharonA Date: 04 Aug 01 - 11:28 AM P.S. – BTW, as of today, the names "mousetheif" and "kat\katlaughing" show up in the "Send a Personal Message" list as BOTH active and inactive! A search for each brings up two listings: one is the name itself; the other is the name followed by the notation "(inactive)". Does this mean that the name can be re-activated? If so, keep on keepin' your eyes peeled, everyone! |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: katlaughing Date: 04 Aug 01 - 01:34 PM Thanks for noticing that and posting it, Sharon. It's been taken care of. In the interest of security, I have deleted what I'd posted here, earlier, AND I would also ask that people refrain from giving the perpetrators any more ideas in this thread. If you want to discus it further, please use PM's. Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Art Thieme Date: 04 Aug 01 - 03:47 PM I think the only thing wrong with it is you have to play it on a pornograph instead of a CD or cassette player. And you can't find those for sale any longer. I know 'cause I've looked all over. I had to get rid of my whole collection and, God knows, I had a good one. It was much taller than it was wide --- and you know what they say about smoke stacks being symbolic and all that. WHOOPS, wrong thread. I thought I was in that "IS PORNO O.K." thread. Well, never mind I guess! But as long as I'm here, Kat, does a change of address operation involve any mutilation of genitalia??? I always thought that Genitalia was the Italian national airline. But as long as you're happy and true to your orientation... I always thought wthat going to China was how one got oriented ! Yeah, I guess that's what makes horse races. Different strokes ! Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Mr Red Date: 04 Aug 01 - 06:17 PM Ah the mistaken identity problem. I have been accused of being at Sidmouth because they saw a guy in a red jacket & trousers. I just hope this clone was as charming, witty, talented and erudite as me, otherwise there goes the reputation! Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Art Thieme Date: 05 Aug 01 - 02:53 AM Folks, Katlaughing knows I love her ! I was only joking in my post as I probably do too often around here I guess. I meant no offense and that's for sure. Gargleoil has come back to roost here every so often over the last few years. Ignore him/her and it tends to decrease it's participation. G. has been down on our Kat for a long time for some reason. Strange 'cause once in a while G. has posted some good stuff. It'd be good for G. to see that personality conflicts are bound to happen and they are probably best walked away from. No need to get bent out of shape. Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Aug 01 - 04:02 AM Nothing to fear john......As Art said. Garg hit a few threads tonight I see. He wished me the best in getting on with my imminent demise.....he keeps hoping....that was in the Thought for the Day thread and I was happy to see him back......Here's what I posted there: ********************************************************** Well Greg......So how the fuck are you man? Been mixin' the formalin with the home brew again huh? Nah, I keep missing out on the Last Train to Glory....Guess I'm "just not reasonably there" yet. You can keep on hoping though. It's good to have something to wish for, but perhaps your goal has exceeded your grasp in this case. Cleigh O'Possum sends his best of course and has worked up a nice ass blast just for you. BTW there Slick.....didja' know we got an Icon just for flaming little pissants like yourself? I mean I know we didn't need to and it took Cleigh some getting used to, but we now have "The Little Pissant"....You can check him out in the photo pages. Best thing is that just for you and with you in mind we created a new award for "The Little Pissant" to give out. We had a contest to name the award and I'm sorry to report that "The Golgarth Award" didn't make the final cut. We went for something more generic since it seemed a bit more workable considering the new little guy's talent. Tell you what, as you were the first pissant it only seems right that you should receive this new award.......Not for these pathetic posts today (I've seen you do SOOO much better), but let's say for past flames you've presented us. Here you go man........ Pretty cool huh? Looks like he whizzes that home brew of yours.......Does it taste about the same? Go ahead and dry off and we can go on........................................Ready? So where you been keepin' yourself? Looks like you may have done some remedial third grade work as your spelling has improved. It still sucks pretty bad, but anything is an improvement. Or did you get a spell checker? Gotta' tell ya' man, if you paid anything for it, you took a fuckin' and a half! Your HTML is still lookin' good although the strikeout shit you did looks like someone forgot to close the code. Maybe you can get one of the Joe Clones to fix it for you, ya' think? Maybe kat? Or Jeri?...........Yeah, probably not..........Why not stick a note in the Help Forum and see if anyone responds? Probably not much help there either, but what the hell, it's an idea! I tell ya' Greg, we do miss you around here. No one else has come along to match your rapier like wit........Well, you ain't got a rapier but it sounds good and a lot better than "Toothpick Dick" doesn't it? You know a lot of good shit but you locked in on this persona instead....Like they say, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. I imagine though that you had no choice since you've rotted your brain with formalin and all. So are you still in San Diego or are you trying to pass off that Phoenix shit again? We have 'Catters in each place and they'd be available to lend a hand if you decide to go the de-tox route. I don't see you going that way myself, but stranger things have happened. Hell, your mother gave birth to you didn't she? Talk about your strange shit.....................Stem cell research has come too late hasn't it? Now THERE was a way you could have been useful!!! As a friend I do of course need to remind you of the advice I gave you before.....Have a Coke and a smile and shut the fuck up.....but you just don't listen do you? Oh well, it's still good advice. You do sometimes take advice I know since you're renowned for your courtesy. I've heard that you never butt-fuck a guy without giving him a reach-around too. You're a class act man! Well it was good to see you Greg and although you say you had to leave 12 hours ago, I'm glad you took the time to throw a little crap our way. Drop by or drop dead anytime......Your choice!!! Ya' know if one of us was in a barrel and the other rolled him down a hill, there'd be an asshole at the top AND at the bottom. Have a completely fucked up day there bro!!!! Spaw

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: gnu Date: 05 Aug 01 - 07:33 PM My post to the "BS: Shootin' The Bird!" thread was... Not to be confused with the Chicken Canon of the Royal Canadian Air Farce, a weekely CBC TV comedy show... each week, the 125mm compressed air gun is loaded with slime of all types and a poster of a politician or celebrity is duly shot. If we had one here at the 'Cat, I'd vote for Gargoyle... twice... and not just his picture. |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: artbrooks Date: 05 Aug 01 - 09:16 PM As I recall, a gargoyle is a rock-headed critter that sticks his head out over the edge of cathedrals in Paris while the rain liquifies the pidgeon shit and washes it out through his mouth. Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: bobbi Date: 05 Aug 01 - 09:42 PM It's obvious that Gargoyle has the hots for katlaughing.... he/she/it is stalking her.. and because he/she/it knows he/she/it can't have her, h/s/i goes for her throat.. Gargoyle is a weird one, indeed... and I think (it) attacks everyone else because (it) has no talent.. Jealousy is an awful affliction... I pitty (it) greatly.. (It) probably failed at everything (it) ever tried in (it's) entire life... would probably be a kind thing indeed, to shoot gargoyle from a cannon into a brick wall... Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Aug 01 - 10:11 PM Y'all need to relax........Garg is an annoyance at worst and obviously his ramblings are meant to hurt, but he's pretty innocuous.....a bit pathetic. Read my post if you wonder about his name and where he lives and all. He can cause great harm through his crap........if you let him. It's a bully personality, no more. The real tragic kind of thing is that he really has good knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and has posted some fine information here as well as his flames. Too bad really. He has hated the DT/Mudcat relationship for years and his hatred of the Forum increased with the more casual and conversational nature of the place. He never understood, as Peter T. posted elsewhere today, the value of the symbiotic relationship between Mudcat and the DT. He looks at kat as a major cause of change in the forum as well as myself and a few others.........but he has attacked her more because of the very thing most of us prize in here...........she's a gentle, compassionate, and loving soul.....just a bully's kind of target. Kat has gotten past it and realizes he's friggin' flake and to take his crap for what it's truly worth.....nothing! Just ignore the little gutterspout and go on and enjoy the place as you have been. Mudcat!! Still the greatest place on the net! He's happy attacking his regular targets and we're all tuned to his crap.........Don't let him bother you. Now go out and look for some lyrics or talk about your newest instrument or favorite session!!!!! Spaw Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: Bill D Date: 10 Aug 01 - 06:07 PM the writing style resembles the old gargoyle we know....who's to say? We saw a lot less of him after that.) It is too bad, as he did know things and had some contributions before he decided to conduct a pretty vicious campaign against some folks here...that was one reason for the 'guest' box so hotly debated these days.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Please note: change in membership name From: catspaw49 Date: 11 Aug 01 - 03:26 PM Garg was often and still can be a pain in the ass, but he was as I said above, very knowledgeable....and not just musically. Although he pissed and moaned and often attacked because this wasn't a "Folk and Blues" site anymore, he would often participate quite well in BS threads. Want an example? Check this thread. His underscore was often not completely consistent and his postings were often filled with spelling problems (if you read that thread I linked, you will see why) but when he really got rolling on the trolling and actually doing some Internet stalking, he was over the edge. AS Bill said, after a bit of an outing, he slowed down a lot and only makes the infrequent appearance. Sharon, we had about a dozen different postings the other day supposedly from garg, but most were someone screwing around after they saw the posts. The first two and possibly another were definitely Greg, but most were not. There are a few keys if you know him. For all his crap, he also has a sense of humor and can be different but he chooses no to be that way. .......Sent me a card a couple of years back during the aneurysm thing......a "Congrats on the Birth of Your Baby" card.....along with a humorous note.
