Subject: Jimmy Cox From: GUEST Date: 05 Aug 01 - 03:45 AM Ok, so, I'm listening to an old Rory Block tape from 1986 where she says"Nobody Knows you When You're Down and Out" was writen by IDA (Yeah, IDA) Cox, who was married to Jimmy, but Jimmy took poor Ida's Credit.. so ok, that sounds feasable, BUT.....I've been trying to prove this, so I find no evidence of Ida ever being married to a "Jimmy", nor did Ida ever "cover" the song, -- you'd think that if she indeed wrote the song, she'd at least cover it after BS made a big "hit" out of it ....am I missing something or is Rory doing wishful "girlpower" thinking...anybody know?????????? |

Subject: RE: Jimmy Cox From: Stewie Date: 05 Aug 01 - 11:28 AM I have no idea what the truth is, but Harry's blues site gives an attribution to Ida Cox and B. Feldman here: However, if you look at the song details in the Columbia vol 4 [page 4 of Chris Albertson's accompanying booklet], the C2K 52838 to which Harry's site refers, credit is given to 'I.Cox' alone. To add to the puzzle, where does the 'B.Feldman' come from. In his notes, Albertson devotes a paragraph to the song, but makes no reference to its author. It is all a bit odd. Good luck. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: Jimmy Cox From: Brian Hoskin Date: 06 Aug 01 - 10:09 AM The information that I've found says that she was married to her pianist/organist Jesse Crump. I couldn't find any references at all to Jimmy Cox. Brian |
