Subject: Beware Phony Donation Schemes From: Troll Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:28 AM I just took this of the internet BEWARE OF PHONY DONATION SCHEMES Especially over the Internet. Word is that scam artists are setting up several Internet sites soliciting donations to help with the rescue and rebuilding effort in New York. Be careful – many of the sites are fake. The money goes right into some financial predator's pocket. My suggestion? The American Red Cross. Call them at 1-800-HELP-NOW. This from Neal Boortz. I'll post more if i spot anything. troll |
Subject: RE: Beware Phony Donation Schemes From: SINSULL Date: 14 Sep 01 - 11:30 AM Another warning: Scam artists posing as EMS workers are requiring families looking for victims to give them Social Security numbers. NO! NO! NO! No legitimate city worker will ask for this. |
Subject: RE: Beware Phony Donation Schemes From: mousethief Date: 14 Sep 01 - 12:04 PM What an appalling reminder of the capacity of human beings for evil. To use an occasion like this to scam people who are deep in shock and grief is despicable. If you are interested, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) have a donation site on their web page for the families of the fire fighters who died in the attacks. Go to www.iaff.org and look for the link. One very worthy cause in this tragedy, and not a scam. Alex |
