Legendary and very influential Texas singer-songwriter Guy Clark was in Montreal last week and we sat down and recorded a conversation that I'll have on this Thursday's edition of Folk Roots/Folk Branches.

It's an interesting conversation that includes Guy's comments on adapting traditional tunes for new songs. The conversation is punctuated by five of Guy's recordings, including "Sis Draper" (melody based on "Arkansas Traveler") and "Dublin Blues" (melody based on "Handsome Molly").

Of course, there'll be lots of other music on the show. Tentatively scheduled are songs from Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, HARP, John Hartford, Ian & Sylvia, Lead Belly, Natalie MacMaster, Taj Mahal, Roger McGuinn & Judy Collins, Tim O'Brien, Odetta, Charley Patton, Garnet Rogers, Paul Siebel, Townes Van Zandt, Loudon Wainwright III, Doc Watson, the Wayfaring Strangers, Gillian Welch and others.

Folk Roots/Folk Branches is heard Thursday mornings from 9:00-noon (Eastern time) on CKUT, 90.3 FM in Montreal, or in RealAudio from the Folk Roots/Folk Branches site.

I was hoping to catch Guy at Toronto's Hugh's Room, but it sold out.

Guy is a great entertainer and, IMHO, the best contemporary songwriter.

Other than that, he's justa 'nother one of those 1,352 guitar pickers in Nashville.

Hey Mike, I really enjoyed the show. I hadn't heard the Taj Mahal version of Candy Man before and the Charley Patton Highwater was a way cleaner version than the one I had heard. Enjoyed the interview with Guy.

I'll try to remember to tune in next week.

I enjoyed the interview with Guy Clark too. As usual, there were great music choices all through the show. The duet of Townes Van Zandt and Freddy Fender was superb, especially when Fender sang in Spanish.
