Gidday everyone. I am going through my books and, although I can play the tune and I know it has lyrics, I have no idea what they are. The database seems to draw a blank. Does anybody have any clues. Thanks all - Pukuhipi.

With "my" prefixed in the title? There's one here, but I don't know what it sounds like.

There is no link to listen at that site. Do you mean the Christmas "Sliver Bells" (city sidewalks, even stop lights are a bright red and green) or the other one? I know a couple banjo players who play a Not Christmas "Silver Bells". I can ask if it has lyrics.

If you want the Christmas one, just go to Google and type "silver bells" in the box. Lots of places with lyrics come up.

I wonder if this might be SILVER BELL? I gather that the tune is a reasonably popular Old Time piece, based on a song written by Edward Madden and Percy Wenrich in the early years of the 20th century; the chorus begins, "Your voice is ringing, my Silver Bell". Sheet music of 1910 can be seen at The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music:

SILVER BELL

That looks like the one the banjo players do, Malcolm. Can't tell for sure without playing it, and I don't have time just now.

Thanks, Gene.  Turns out there's another one, too:  Lyrics for Indian Maid.  I thought I'd checked the Forum, but obviously I didn't!

I am sure the one I posted in the "Indian Maid" request is what is needed....it is 'mostly' played as an instrumental, traditionally with a couple of modulation alerts ....I just play the tune and sing the silly, impossible words...*grin*

Gidday Everyone
It has only taken me FIVE years to organise myself and use the information you sent me.

A thousand apologies and a thousand thanks. Your help was terrific - it was the piece about the Native Americans. I didn't even know that there was a link to Native Americans at all. I will spend some time on it.

Cheers and thanks

Pukuhipi

Replying to Post by Malcolm Douglas re Silver Bell

(Yes, I am here looking at your post six years or so after the
posting date!!)

That is the Silver Bell I have been looking up sheet music for...

The collection link that you posted (thanks!) has Silver Bell

in bflat... anyone know where one might come upon the sheet music

in the key of D?

Thanks!

:)

FWIW, the 1910 one harmonizes nicely with "Home, Sweet Home".

Gladys:

Here's some music, though it's in the key of F, not D. The blue links at the bottom of the page will take you through it, sheet by sheet.

Oddly enough, that's exactly the same music I provided a link to a few posts (and five-and-a-half-years) ago; though I started at the rather vivid front cover.

Song sheets were frequently published in a range of keys (for example, the sheet indicated includes a piano arrangement in F and a vocal arrangement in Bb), and it's possible that further alternatives might be found elsewhere. You'll need to spend some time on google to see. Actually, the score isn't very complicated; with a bit of time you should be able to transpose it yourself.

This thread is so old now that it seems unlikely anyone is looking at it, but I have the song "Silver Bell" on an antique phonograph record. It is the same one referenced above by Malcolm Douglas. The record probably was recorded between, say, 1915 and 1920, and the lyrics, to the extent I can understand them, are:

"Your voice is ringing
My silver bell,
Under its spell,
I've come to tell you,
All the love I am bringing,
O'r hill and dell (?)
... ? will dwell, my silver bell."

Could this be it? If you are still interested and can tell me how, I will post a recording of it.

The record gets a regular airing on ABC on Sunday morning Australia All Over, one of Macca's favourites. There is a long instrumental and the first verse is repeated.
